Dear Frances "Close your eyes and trust me" McKinnon,

Thank you for your letter, and for taking the time to make sure there was nothing funny about the original letter. You're a very diligent employee, and a fine example for the rest of us.

I'm very excited to begin working in the Ministry, and I hope that I perform well in the position, although I trust I can count on you help me make my performance the best it can be?

Have I already received my official welcome, or does this entitle me to another visit from the welcome wagon?

Sincerely,
Hermione "Oh, that felt quite nice" Granger

Oh sweet Merlin, I can't believe I just wrote that. I'd better send it before I lose my nerve.

[Tuesday evening. Takes place after this, but right before this.]

Hermione's sitting in the living room of her flat, in her natural habitat - surrounded by books. She's determined to get them sorted into some sort of order before she tries getting anything else in the flat set up.

A loud knock is heard on her door, followed by a second. Quick, frantic.

Hermione looks up sharply at the noise, disengaging herself from her books and going over to the door. "Who is it?"

"Uh... Uh..." He stammers, unsure-- if he tells her who it is, she'll just...open the door, and slam it in his face, or not open it at all.

Hermione rolls her eyes and pulls the door open, staring at Draco. He's just about the last person she'd ever expect to see at her door. "Draco?"

"...Please don't hit me."

"What are you doing here?" Manners imply that she should invite him in, but she doesn't know if that's such a good idea.

"...I cheated on Harry." He says, wincing-- he smells like alcohol; in fact, he reeks of it. He's not so inebriated that he doesn't expect a slap, though.

"...I think you'd better come inside." She grabs him by his shirt, pulling him in and slams the door behind him. "Merlin, Draco, you reek. What have you been drinking?"

"Muggle liquor." He replies, leaning rather heavily against the door. Soon, he can't hold himself up, and he slides down into a crouch, hands to his forehead.

Hermione sighs and kicks him lightly. "What's this about you cheating on Harry? How drunk are you?"

"Drunk. Very drunk. Disgustingly drunk. I just... I just kissed him, Hermione. It wasn't FUCKING supposed to happen!" He snarls, finally, his anger with himself growing.

Hermione pulls Draco up, holding him by his shirt, shaking him a little. "Who? Who did you kiss? How dare you!"

He narrows his eyes at her, irritably. "If I were you, I'd feel surprised that I had the balls to bring my sorry ass here and tell you. I came to ask for advice. If you don't want to give it, I'll leave."

That statement takes Hermione by surprise. "You want advice from me? But why?"

"You know Harry. You were his fangirl when I was too busy fucking the Quidditch team." He sniffs, looking about her apartment for a bottle of liquor.

"Fangirl?! I'm not his fangirl!" She fumes. "You know what my advice is going to be, same as it's always been. Stay away from Harry! It's bad enough that you're making him so upset with your behavior with your parents. Now you're cheating on him?"

It's Draco's turn to grab Hermione by the shoulders and shake her, vigorously. "I CHEATED ON HIM SO I COULD LET HIM GO YOU DAFT COW!"...He pauses, and calms, voice catching in his throat. "I have to. I can't keep hurting him like this, with my family. I had to have a reason to do it."

Hermione's immediate reaction to being grabbed by Draco is to smack him, if only to get him to stop shaking her. "Get off me!" She sighs, rubbing her shoulders. "Did it ever occur to you that maybe the fact that you're hurting him could be reason enough to break up with him? Did you really need to add further fuel to the fire?"

"If we were hurting, I'd have been a man to try to repair it. But..." He slumps, again, head hitting the door. "I'm just a weak little boy. And I don't deserve Harry." Draco? Being insightful? Everyone has their moments. Draco just has them when drunk.

"I could have told you that in the beginning," Hermione says angrily. "You are going to tell Harry what you did, right? He deserves to know."

Draco pulls himself up by the handle on the door, turning, and slipping on his cloak. "Of course." He snaps, and opens the door, turning to say, "Thanks for all your help, you Gryff bitch." And out he goes, slamming the door behind him.

Hermione gapes at the door for a second before following Draco out, running after him. She's not about to let him get the last word. She catches up to him, grabbing his arm. "Hang on a minute. Excuse me? You came into my apartment, you asked me for advice, I gave you honesty, and then you storm out? Honestly Draco, what did you expect me to say? 'Gee Draco, I'm sorry you cheated on Harry. But go ahead, keep dating him, keep using him, it's okay'?"

"I'm NOT using him, Hermione! I love Harry. I don't want to hurt him any more. You don't have to rub salt on my wounds. I've licked them raw already." His eyes narrow, and then, SHOCK, he leans in, and kisses her cheek, whispering... "Be there, when he comes." And then he apparates.

Hermione stares at the blank space where Draco was standing. Did he just...kiss her cheek? She shakes her head. She's been with the books too long, and has started hallucinating. Yes, that must be it. But she goes back inside, to wait, in case Harry does come.

Just to let everyone know, if you're looking for Harry, <s>please stop looking and just leave him alone</s> he's staying in my flat for a bit. However, he's resting right now, so I'd prefer it if everyone could just let him be for the time being. (Yes Malfoy, that includes you.)

(Honestly, you'd think that after seventeen years, he'd learn not to bounce on people's beds so much. I swear, if he breaks it, he's going to be The Boy Who Put Hermione's Bed Back Together With No Magic Whatsoever Damn It.)

Congratulations Hufflepuff! You played wonderfully yesterday, and it's good to see that you've become formidable opponents on the Quidditch field.

As for whoever threw those snowballs at my head yesterday, I'd like you to know that you were not amusing in the slightest.

With finals rapidly approaching, I just thought that I'd remind everyone that I'm available for tutoring. If anyone needs assistance with their studies, I'd be happy to help. I'm probably not the person to come to if you need help with something like Divination (although I doubt anyone would need tutoring for a subject like that) but I'd be glad to help students with the basic subjects.

I really don't want to go home for the summer. It's so boring being at home. Nothing exciting ever happens, and I have to spend all of my time making up stories about the boarding school that my parents have told everyone I'm attending. (Although, I suppose I shouldn't complain. I realize how lucky I am to have parents who accept the fact that I'm a witch, and support my education.)

Seamus? I think we need to have another talk. I've been doing some thinking about what you said, and perhaps I should be open to more options.

I'd like to join everyone in congratulating the Slytherin Quidditch team on their victory. You all played very well this season, and you should be proud of yourselves (especially since your victories were achieved honestly, instead of through cheating, as in previous years).

Gryffindors, try not to be too disappointed. You're all exceptional players, no matter what Madam Hooch says, and although we're losing our two Beaters (you guys are actually going to graduate this year, aren't you?) we've got a great chance of winning next year.

Speaking of next year, is it just me, or does it seem like the time is moving slower the closer we get to the end of the year? Honestly, it feels like final exams will never get here! (They'd better not be cancelled again, or I'll...well, I don't know what I'll do, but it will be neither pretty nor mature.)
