I'm back, and missing Leipzig already :( The spectacle of seeing such a beautiful city brimming with goths and deathrockers is something I'd never tire of. We met an insane amount of incredible people over there too, partied hard and I am thankful for all the great memories I have brought back with me from the trip. It did me more good than I'm going to go into here as it's mostly on a personal, introspective and ultimately probably boring level, but it's all contributing to my quest to arrive at a better me, which can only be a good thing.
Anyway, I'm too tired to go into any great update about it all so I'll let some photos do the talking!
We all decided to drink through the night and stay awake for our 3am coach ride to Stansted airport. I'm still not convinced it was a great idea, but it sure as hell was funny.
Here's us Nottingham lot before leaving for Leipzig (from left to right... nonnymus, me, moistpuffin, adam_supernal, Kingsley, _apollos_ and eeymsmo):
Me and Polo, first night at the Gothic-Pogo Party:
There was a Christian Death protest, and my favourite banner was "Rozz is watching you". I think Polo was holding up the "Fuck Off Valor" sign. Someone even got on stage, rugby tackled Valor to the floor and punched him in the face all under the watchful gaze of Eva O (who incidentally was amazing in the CD 1334 gig) but I'd chosen that very moment to go to the toilet. Typical.
Outside Werk II with kreepygrly and marksplatter, just before the Tragic Black gig:
..and speak of the devil, _apollos_ with Tragic Black's stich_inside:
...and finally just a taste of the sights that we were greeted by during the whole event; crowds of incredible looking (and genuinely awesome) people:
I have more photos up on Myspace here
Now I'm going to go sulk at having sickeningly normal hair again, and see what exciting events are coming up that will take the sting out of being back to reality. There's the Specimen/Sex Gang Children/Batcave event in July, but that feels like bloody AGES away!
A heart-felt hanks to everyone who made WGT such an epic and fun event. I'm sure I'll get around to mentioning everyone we met up with soon (especially the Release the Bats folk and the Australian deathrockers...just wish we'd had more time to hang out).

3:31 pm - Selling some sketch edition prints...
|
I have dentist bills, WGT and general life expenses to contend with at the moment so I am selling some sketch edition prints. These special prints don't become available very often (only at exhibitions and the occassional tattoo event) as I tend not to have the time to produce them, so this is a great way to get your hands on one without waiting!
On offer are six A3 (29.7cm x 42cm) giclée prints on canvas grain paper and come complete with a hand drawn sketch by me. Price per print is £80 which includes P&P within the UK (outside the UK will be an extra £2). These come unframed (because in my experience glass frames rarely make it to their destination without being damaged) and will be posted in an art tube.
First I'm offering 3 prints of the sketch edition 'Belle' in the highly limited variant 'Rockabilly Tattooed Belle' sporting cherry blossom tattoos (a sketch edition of this print that I donated to a charity auction event went for £400 last week!). She is from a run of 50, only a handful of which will be sketch editions:
I'm also selling 3 sketch edition Kreeper Kate prints which feature a little kitty skull in the bottom right corner. I haven't got her up on my website yet, so this is a quick way of getting your hands on her. There will only be ten kitty skull sketch prints of these made:
Please note: the sketches may vary slightly from those shown as they are hand drawn. Colours will remain similar, however.
Payment is preferred via Paypal, and these will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. It's best to leave a comment here, although you'll need to be quick as I'll be putting the information on my RHuntington LJ in a few hours and Myspace.
*Update 29/04/08*: There are now just 2 'Rockabilly Belle' prints and 2 'Kreeper Kate' prints available.

12:40 pm - We're looking for a new recruit at Rampant Ink
|
From Gray:
Shop Slave Required (trainee shop manager)
We are currently looking for someone to join our team at Rampant Ink. Low wages (no joke, really, no joke), long hours, tea making, reception work, must be artistic and great with people, (this position could become an apprenticeship, ( IN THE FUTURE, AT LEAST A COUPLE OF YEARS) for the right person.
Please email telling us why it should be you. Photos of yourselves and any of your own artwork are essential!
Good luck
Under 18's need not apply, sorry.
Email us at: info@rampantink.com

Could be a good opportunity to get your foot in the tattoo-industry door, provided you can cope with low wages (although it'll be more than I got for my first year here, so don't expect much sympathy from me, hehe).

11:22 am - More photos from The Wake - Dark Masquerade Ball

So, my excitement about The Wake's 'Dark Masquerade Ball Special' that took place last night was justified. It was such an awesome night, and everyone rose to the occasion and looked spectacular! The music was top notch, we decorated the place with ribbons and bows to add a dark romantic touch, and there was healthy attendance of masquerade ballers :)
_apollos_ DJ'd again, which was fab, and even got roped into compering to announce the 'best dressed' winners which resulted in a comical few minutes of microphone technical difficulties (although he coped well with a room full of amused hecklers, lol).
I took a fair few pictures but not many came out, sadly. Here are a few from the evening which will hopefully set the scene until the 'official' shots courtesy of the talented event photographer rescendent start doing the rounds: (click for bigger views)
_apollos_ looking mighty dashing. It's now no secret that those are my frilly knickers he's wearing around his neck.
The Wake's delightful hostess, pvckitten, and adam_supernal in the background who kindly made my gorgeous fishtail skirt.
savantfoxt, nonnymus and Dominic looking splendid in masks. nonnymus expertly hand made hers and Dominic's masks out of Stella cans and silver gilding!
_apollos_, the very beautiful Poppy sporting a HUGE skirt (which was doing a grand job of sweeping the venue's floors!) and her dashing gent diesel_monkey
The three 'best dressed' prize winners... 1st Prize: astrofeline (on the right) who made her ENTIRE outfit from scratch, and blew everyone away with her stunning creation!
2nd Prize: diesel_monkey on the left who won 2nd prize for his incredible Victorian Steampunk inspired ensemble...shame you can't see the astonishing details like the hand welded copper & brass watch parts mask, tie pin and cufflinks!
3rd Prize: Joanna (centre) who looked darkly fabulous in a slinky floor length PVC number, doing a wonderful job of combining gothic glamour with the night's masquerade theme.
Another photo of prize winner astrofeline and her elegant gentleman friend.
I only brought out my Symphony Of Shadows mask 'Requiem' for about half an hour before the vodka started kicking in and I could no longer trust myself with her! I think a photo or two was taken though :)
Thanks so much to everyone who made such big efforts on the night. It made it a really special event, and hugely enjoyable xx

1:19 pm - Prizes have been announced....
|
Just a reminder for The Wake's special 'Dark Masquerade Ball' event on December 15th:
I am donating three prints for the 'Best Dressed' prizes; the first being a rare A3 'Mask Edition' of 'Black Widow' framed and complete with hand drawn sketch, the second a rare A3 'Masquerade Ball Edition' print of my new character 'Rae', again framed with hand drawn sketch (both of these prints would cost around £80 and are only available at special events and exhibitions) and a final prize in the form of a framed A4 print of one of my other new characters 'Rozz' (worth £30).
First prize winner will be able to choose the print that they want from the three on offer, second prize chooses from the remaining two and third prize receives the final print.
There's just enough time left yet to get your outfits ready! I can't wait...

2:46 pm - Recent tattoos...
|
It's been a really busy week with plenty of tattooing. Just the way I like it :)
This one took a LOT of control, so I slowed the lines right down. It paid off:
A Tibetan mantra for a very large and jolly buddhist:
Some foot cherries (pretend the leaves are vibrant green, which they will be, rather than rusty brown...the tattoo wouldn't stop bleeding long enough to capture the colours accurately):
Lastly a Beano tattoo, which took a deceptively long time to finish:
Edited to add: We also got another mention in Skin Deep this month (page 8 along with a pic of my Kreepers Kate print) where they very kindly write, "Rachel has made the leap from being an accomplished artist/designer with her own unique style of art to become a very talented tattooist under the tutelage of one Gray Silva from Rampant Ink Nottingham. She is certainly bringing her often copied but never bettered style of art to the world of tattoos...". I'm amazed by the faith that many in the industry are showing in my potential. It's all very encouraging, and we should have Skin Deep over in mid December to do the feature interview. Woohoo!
We're having a couple of quiet weekends this month and saving ourselves for the big Dark Masquerade Ball special of The Wake on the 15th December (I'm going to show photos of the two 'best dressed' prizes on offer that night soon...they're extra special!). Not going out every Saturday will help save some pennies for the big financial drain that is Christmas, and I'm so busy right now that partying hard every weekend just isn't such a good idea. Sorry to those whose nights I'll be missing as a consequence.
Right, back to the pile of tattoos waiting to be designed...

adam_supernal posted a photo of the 'Man's Ruin' pinup girl I custom designed for him and outlined on Saturday. There were sooooo many long lines that made it the most technically challenging tattoo I've done yet, but I held my nerve for most of them without breaking off mid-line.
There are bits that aren't perfect (although there's rarely such thing as 'perfect' in tattoo terms), but nothing that won't be ironed out when I come to power line it :)
Edited to add: She'll be sat in a cocktail glass of absinthe, and the syringe will be filled with acid green absinthe too, which is a nice twist. You can't see the razorblade to the left and the pills scattered around, but they add some nice detail, and I'll draw in cobwebs underneath the scroll later on.
Not bad for three hours of tattooing around a very difficult area (it wraps around from the front of Adam's lower leg to the back, so I had to get into some mighty strange positions including kneeling on the floor for part of it!).
In other news the stinking cold that is doing the rounds has hit me good and proper. I seem unable to eat enough garlic to feed my cravings. I'd kill for a big pot of humus right now.

The weekend was utterly hectic and non-stop throughout, but vastly enjoyable. I was tattooing solidly (with a 10 minute break for lunch) from 11 until 6 and thought I was going to go blind, then had a manic hour to get ready before heading to The Wake for opening as _apollos_ was DJing. Ended up having the best night out that I've had in ages and danced more than I have in a very long time. Flitted upstairs a few times to gatecrash the Creepshow aftershow party, which amused me no end being gothed up to the nines in a psychobilly room. Haha. Here's a couple of pics from the night (I look as though a giant pigeon shat on my head in them, but the effect looked better IRL, honest):
Me with the lovely lady_foo.
...looking like I'm about to nut moistpuffin! Like I'd dare. Fab Photos by rescendent
So yes, The Wake was amazing and plenty of fab music was played. Next month promises to be extra special as it's the Dark Masquerade Ball. I'm sure everyone will make an effort.
Sunday brought about a shoot with ever talented spudgun77/Dean Wilkinson and gave me the chance to co-model with the flame haired sexpot, ladytempesta. Had a great time tottering about in ridiculous heels and slipping around in latex in Bluu Bar (the staff were awesome and couldn't do enough for us, although there was a LOT of loitering going on by the male staff, bless). We have exciting plans for the resulting images featuring Jane Doe Latex clothing so I don't want to give too much away, but as a little teaser I'm using one of the pics from our Bondinage Bitches set as my new icon ;)
Tattooing is picking up again and I'm starting to get more bookings, which is encouraging. Today I got to tattoo adam_supernal who had the dubious honour of being my first guinea-pig for testing the water with my pinup girls. I designed a 'Man's Ruin' girl featuring a naughty nurse and absinthe, and the 3 hour linework session went surprisingly well. I genuinely can't wait to start the colouring now! If I have any chance at all of tattooing at conventions next year I'll have to pack in the practice with my pinups. It's all hotting up!
I can't believe it's 2am and I'm still awake. Ah well.

I need to sell this stuff.
Prices include P&P within UK (outside UK please ask for postage quotes). Paypal is prefered, but I can email you details of where to send cheques (UK customers only) or cash (at your own risk) to upon request. IMPORTANT: when paying *please* include info about what you have purchased! Also, I won't mark items as sold (and therefore remain up for grabs) until confirmation of a purchase has been made and a definite sale is reached.
Keep in mind we have four cats, so stray cat hairs may be included despite my best efforts :p
[1] SOLD!Great rockabilly 'Redherring' cherry print shoes.
Size 8, so too big for me. Never worn. £10
[2] Great rockabilly 'Redherring' gingham print shoes.
Not content to just buy one pair of shoes that were too big, I bought two. Again, size 8, never worn. £10
[3] Even more rockabilly shoes, this time red with white polkadot wedges by 'Faith'.
Size 7, never worn (just not quite my style). Looking for £15 as they'll be reasonably heavy to post.
[4] Beautiful custom made black leatherette skirt by 'Supernal Clothing'.
This was made to my specifications for a charity ball I attended, but unfortunately it's now a little too big for me. Fits like a UK12 (30 inch waist, 40 inch hips) and it's about floor length on me in heels (I'm 5ft9") with the front shorter (just below knee). Worn once and is in fantastic almost new condition. Goes beautifully with a leather corset (which is how I wore it). Sensible offers as this would cost over £50 if ordered new and the postage will be expensive with it being a heavy item. Plus it's a one-off.
[5] Beautiful pewter satin halter neck dress from 'Next'.
Recently bought from a buyer on Niceboots, but it doesn't fit me. Marked as a UK8 but would accomodate a UK10 too. Hasn't been worn by me, but has been worn a couple of times by previous owner. In good condition. Looking for £12 ( More this way... )

The Wake last night was absolutely brilliant! I was rather drunk, as usual, and everyone seemed to be in really good spirits. It was also wonderful to see so many people dressed up. Made me realise just how lazy I've become with my outfits these days (I normally resort to cropped jeans and vests) but after getting dolled up last night I've vowed to dress up more often. I've missed it.
Duncan produced great sets, as always, and Bill played some terrific tracks that got me up and dancing. A thoroughly enjoyable night all round, and a good dose of rudeness was thrown in for good measure :p
I'm also really chuffed to be able to show my new work for The Wake (sorry Rae, this has rather spoiled your birthday surprise) which is based on the very sexy moistpuffin.
I can't wait for next month's installment of The Wake now, and there might be something extra special cooking for December's!

Just a flying visit to show my tattoo progress. This is something I did on Polo last night (had a late session in the studio) on his left calf. It's a slightly amended Tony Ciavarro design, and I absolutely LOVED doing it. I haven't had much experience with grey shading yet, but once I'd found my flow there was no stopping me. I was only going to shade the roses last night but just didn't want to stop.
He looks like he's doing the "quote" gesture, which is keeping me amused, and means we can put something comical in the scroll, once we figure out something suitably funny.
The amazing thing (for me) was that I winged it. No reference shading to rely on (the book I used only has line work), and while it utterly freaked me out to begin with it actually became quite free not having anything to copy. I simply shaded it as I would one of my drawings. It needs colour still, but that's the grey layer done.
I can't wait for Nightmare tonight. I'll be dressing as a school girl, which admittedly as a 32 year old feels a little wrong, but Polo will appreciate it. Bring forth the fun.
