apart form jotting down a few words on disneyland and paris .. I have xmas and new years.. might as well get started.
Quite the interesting journey getting from MLP to WAW....
-got the the train station Sun morning Dec 21 to take my train from Montpellier to Toulouse, where I'd then head to the Toulouse airport to catch my flight, I look up at the train departures board.. train isn't listed
-My first very personal run-in with the French nat'l pasttime: fucking up ppl's lives.. I mean, striking. Grr. As it turns out:
*My 745am train was canceled
*got a new (exchanged) ticket for the next train to Toulouse
*this 2nd train got to Toulouse 25min late
*got to the airport (by f-ing expensive taxi, rather than the longer ride but cheaper shuttle) 10min before my plane left the ground :(
*Had to hustle anyways to cancel my first ticket so I wouldn't be put on a terrorist list or whatever... bought a new ticket.. for 350Euro (which is maybe $450 or so, or more). Damn you, you asses, SNCF.
--BUT I finally made it to Poland only 4hrs behind schedule.. it was all smooth sailing once I bought my new ticket. Surprised what a joke security seemed to be at the airport too. They just kind of waived everyone through and everyone shuffled on by. oh well.
It was great to spend time with my grandparents, aunts, and cousins who came in from London. This was the first time ever all 3 of us were together for Xmas so that was cool.
My grandma (on mom's side) still is rather ill, and can't walk anymore now (she was using a walker and the help of a 2nd person two yrs ago last time I saw her) She now travels from bed to the kitchen and back by ultra pimp wheelchair :) Only thing that really sucks is having to see my aunt lift her up into a sitting position, then lift and transfer her to the wheelchair and back every time a trip to the kitchen is made. Poor thing. But at least my grandma remembers me :)
It was cold, anywhere btwn 0 and -4 degrees Celcius, ie. 32(freezing) and 20something Fahrenheit, but I survived, no choice right?
My other grandparents, on my dad's side are in seemingly better health, although the fact that they smoke like chimneys (in my opinion) isn't to their benefit. That's also one of the consequences of going over to their apt-- my clothes always reek of cigarettes :( sigh, oh well.
