I've been meaning to update, I swear

So here's the quick rundown (with more detailed rundowns to follow):
My internship got pushed back a week because of internal logistics at Turner HR, so I went home/to MD last week and now I'm back in New York and started today!! I'm at Cartoon Network doing ad sales and it's pretty awesome. I'm the only intern in CN, so I got lots of special attention today haha - I got to meet everyone (including the VPs and everyone!) and in the afternoon I shadowed this guy Ted. Even though I am the only intern, there's a lot of young people at the office - Ted is 24 and there are three girls in the same area as my cube (lol) that are all younger, one of them just graduated last year.
But yeah. I already love it after just one day. I can't wait to go again tomorrow lol!

I promise I'll update more soon, but seeing as I have to be at work at 8:30 I really need to go to bed. Check out my pictures, I put up some from last week. Most of them feature a pretty purple balloon.

Considering I'm not working yet, I sure have been keeping busy!

The sun woke me up around 7:30am. Believe it or not, I couldn't go back to sleep because I was so excited about the prospect of a beautiful day in the city. So I went to the gym around 8 and then began my day.

First, I had lunch with Mickey at the same place we had lunch when I visited over spring break. I had a delicious salad - spinach, walnuts, oranges, blue cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. I'm gonna have to make that for myself sometime! After that I headed back to the apartment for a bit, then went back outside because I couldn't stay inside since it was so nice. I ended up sitting on the "Columbia Beach" talking to mom and Kirsten for a while and looking at pigeons. It's more exciting than it sounds.

I then decided to explore Morningside Heights. I basically just walked down to 112th St. and back, but I found lots of cool things! For example, I found a NYPL branch library and decided to investigate getting a card. I walked in and told them I was working in the city and they just gave me a card right away! So now I am a member of the New York Public Library, so I'm going to check out the main one sometime this week. I then found Tom's Restaurant, which as you will see in my pictures is the Seinfeld diner. It's on the to-do list to eat there even though I already have (last winter break when I visited Jesse with D4).

Around 3 I headed downtown to meet up with Marla. I got a little lost trying to find her - I got off at the 59th-Columbus Circle Station (which is my stop for work!) but went the wrong way on 59th - I was supposed to meet her at 59th and Lexington but I went towards 9th instead of towards 7th. So once I figured that out I turned around, but I got confused because right around there the street signs don't say "59th St.", they say "Central Park West" so I didn't know if i was in the right place. At any rate, I did find her, and we went to Dyaln's Candy Bar on 60th and 3rd. Dude. It was SO HARD to not eat all the delicious things but I was a good girl and had an iced coffee instead of bad bad candy. After that we WALKED to meet Steve at 34th and 5th - got a good 30 blocks in there. My legs are achy, but I definitely got my exercise! We ate at the Heartland Brewery - I had a delicious salad with Chicken and Grilled vegetables. All in all considering I ate out twice today I did pretty well.

Finally I got home around 7ish...I'm not a fan of taking the subway by myself, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Tonight Celeste and I went down the hall to hang out with some people in 1408. I've been meeting people from all over and it's so cool - I met a guy tonight who is a PITT PATHFINDER! In case you aren't a huge loser like me, Pitt Pathfinders are one of the most well-known tour guide organizations in the country. We talked about being tour guides and how I want Images to be as well known as the Pathfinders and how I wish we got 300 applications a semester. it was fun.

Okay. I'm being lame and going to bed. I walked a ridic amount today.

Okay. I love NYC now.

This morning all my roommates went to work, so I had the place to myself. First things first, as soon as I showered I called about the broken stove. I claimed we had a gas leak so they'd come quickly and they did - it took all of 20 minutes for them to get here. Turned out the problem wasn't a big deal at all. So now I have a working oven and stove!!! I'm so pleased.

After that I read for a while, talked to my mom on the phone...it was rainy and miserable so I didn't really do much. Once Katie and Celeste got back though Celeste and I went to the gym. Their gym is nice, but it's no CRC ;-) When we got out of the gym it had stopped raining, so we decided to venture downtown!!

I got my monthly subway pass (unlimited rides, which is sweet, since each ride is $2) and we went down the 34th st. Old Navy. I bought a sweater since it's so cold in our apt and it was only $6.97. yesss sales. Then we went to Kmart to look for cheap microwaves and didn't have much luck. We also went to Brookstone's for the sole reason to sit in massage chairs (see pictures) and after walking around a bit more, decided to buy poster board and make a Summer to-do list because there were so many things we were talking about that we had to do. I'm excited to start checking things off! See pictures for full list, which will be added to later of course!

After adventuring/making the to-do list, Celeste and I had dinner (I stir-fried my leftovers from Ollie's...sooooo good) and the skyline looked gorgeous so I took more pictures. Now we're going to watch some Lost, always a fun pastime :)

I am definitely going to get used to living here really quickly. I love it already...the city is so exciting.

Tomorrow I'm having lunch with Mickey and then meeting up with Marla for some shopping and we're meeting Jesse for dinner. Ohhh exciting things...

I'm in my apartment in New Yorkkkk

No pictures though, because the weather is DISGUSTING! Pictures to come later in the week, hopefully this narsty weather will clear up.

Here's the lowdown...
My apartment? Not exactly as swanky as I had hoped. I was expecting it to be as least as nice as Commons but it's really not at all. It's cool to have the 2 floors (downstairs is the bedrooms and bathroom and upstairs is the common room and kitchen) and the common room is huge, but this thing really is a glorified dorm. Sure, my room has real walls, but it's so bare...I definitely need to do some decorating. The common room also needs work - definitely needs some color and maybe some string lights? And we're getting a tv from my roommate Celeste's uncle, so obviously that is important to me haha. We have to pay for cable, but it comes with HBO which is AWESOME because I get to watch Big Love!! Hmm what else...the previous occupants stored a ping pong table in the closet so we moved that upstairs because our common room is huge and it will be a sweeet pong table. Oh our stove doesn't work. This is a biiiig problem that I will be working on tomorrow, seeing as I don't start working for another week.

I wish the weather was nicer so I could explore!!

Anyway, my parents and I went to Ollie's for lunch, which was really delicious and I'm glad I could introduce them to it. And I already found an awesome supermarket right on Broadway. I need to make a shopping list - another thing to do tomorrow. Since I'm trying to diet I think I'm going to make a sort of "meal plan" for the week and then make my shopping list based off of that.

My roommates are cool - my roommate, Katie, goes to Southern Methodist in Dallas (as does her friend who lives in the single next to us) and she's from NC. Her friend Meredith is from California, our other roommate Celeste is from Mississippi and our last roommate Quinn is from Minnesota. I'm the only one who drove, lol. Katie and Celeste are interning at NBC - women after my own heart.

So yeah. I think that's about it for today - definitely need to get that oven fixed tomorrow!

I am making it a personal goal this summer to update this thing on a regular basis.

Because as of tomorrow, I will be spending the next nine weeks in New York City.

This is all so surreal. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to live in New York. Now I am getting my chance...I guess it's not that big of a deal really, but it's just something I've wanted to experience for so long that I can't help but be really excited and a little nervous about it.

I'm living at Columbia University in an apartment with four other girls, all interns also. My apartment looks over Morningside Park. I'm interning at Turner Broadcasting, in the beautiful Time Warner building at Columbus Circle. I'm going to take the subway everywhere and see friends every chance I get and explore and go to museums and see shows and learn about as much of the city's culture as I can.

This summer is going to be so ridiculous.

Anyway, I don't start work until next Monday, so I have this entire week to just play and explore. Expect to see lotssss of pictures - I just got a new camera today and I really want to document everything.

Back at work. We had yesterday off in honor of Martin Luther King. Now I only have 2 days left after today, then a self-proclaimed 3 day weekend and then back to cp! hopefully for an EDD on monday, hangover tuesday and class on wednesday. haha.

The boss bought everyone lunch from applebee's today! but i was good and got a shrimp salad that is only 4 points on weight watchers. and it's delicious! i highly recommend it if you're trying to eat well but want to go out.

so i decided to go off birth control for a month of two to lose some weight. i have a lot of trouble losing weight when on it and the last time i went off it i lost weight pretty easily (without dieting) so i'm dieting now and hoping to see enough results that when i go back on BC i'll still have a net loss. i'm sick of hating the way i look. also i've been working out a lot more...usually doing cardio and low-impact every other day...like running one day and yoga the next. i heart yoga.

so let's talk about that 24 premiere...first off, jack bauer should NEVER CRY. it shouldn't be allowed. secondly, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE BOMB ACTUALLY WENT OFF. Bombs NEVER go off in 24. jack always stops them. and i knew that jack was going to shoot curtis (silly spoilers) but because of that i think the bomb was even more shocking, because mom and i though curtis's death was the big shocker. also...
-how much do i love the chloe/morris/milo love triangle? um, so much. chloe and morris are so perfect for each other. they're both so snarky. it is nice to see chloe with someone. i also love her brown hair.
-karen and bill got married! last time i checked they were just going out to breakfast...
-sandra palmer is muy annoying. she reminds me of sherry palmer. i guess brothers do marry girls like their sisters.
-is wayne palmer married?
-that guy from ally mcbeal is really annoying also.
-as adam lewis put it so well "kumar tried to blow up white castle." silly kumar.
-the stupid dad. he could have stopped the bomb. all he had to do was discreetly break a piece of that chip or whatever. but then there'd be no show, so i'll stop complaining.

so that's my 2 cents about 24. not as good as last season's first 4 hours, but let's face it, it would be hard to top that.

break went insannnnely fast. only a little over a week before i go back to cp.

my sabbatical in MD was great, but it's back to work now. luckily i have off monday (hooray martin luther king) and i'm not working next friday, so only 3 days left at first magnus. i don't know if it's a good thing that i worked so much. i made a lot of money but i needed a break break and i didnt really get it. hmm.

i got to see some bb girls on wednesday night and that was lovely. i also had coffe (er, tea) with justin last night which was also lovely. i have wonderful friends.

my head hurts. booo

hello! i am currently in sammie's apt, watching friends and playing on lj :)

yesterday i drove to silver spring and kelly and i went to dinner with gracie, reem and jumana. we went to don pablo's and then watched the last kiss. it was good but not as good as garden state. then i slept and kelly's and drove to cp this morning.

this morning i went to chevy chase bank and then to the gym. after all that i came to sammie's and showered and we went food shopping. we're making tacos tonight!! and then we're having a bpt!! yay bpt!

tomorrow i'm playing with the trebs...i am so glad i'm getting a break. i kinda needed it.

pretty christmasy live journal is GONE! and candace cries

so. it's typical that for the first time since spamfest 06, my body decides to get sick on me. a cold. 2 days before i'm supposed to go down to maryland to play with my friends. whatever, i'm still going. i just would really appreciate it if this would be like a 48 hour cold and be done.

i wish i had an hour for lunch. but then i'd only get paid for 7 1/2 hours of work which would suck a little

probably staying in tonight to fight off this cold. it sucks and i hate it.

i went to the diner with 7 of my lovely friends last night. and i saw alexa darrow! what fun. i loooove new jersey diners.

okay. im gonna go make myself tea and register loans. its how i do.

i'm at work. eating a delicious salad that i made. lettuce, carrots, apples, swiss chese, mushrooms and a raspberry vinagrette dressing. it is muy good. i also walked over to the 7-11 across the street for coffee today. and for exercise, but mostly for coffee.

i am seeing tetch tonight! we are diner-ing. anyone wanna come with?

oh, and the officially official md travel plans are-
sunday: hang with kb
monday: cp with the crew
tuesday: somewhere with kirsten and fran and perhaps other trebs.
wednesday morning: go home.

and then thursday friday back to work, because first magnus asked me to keep working for the rest of break and i like money so i am doing so. only next thursday and friday and the following monday-thursday. i'm giving myself my last friday off. but yay another $480...now i might visit erica in england AND visit court in vegas. yay traveling!

i also decided that if i don't get an internship this summer, i think i might go abroad to spain. it's a 6 week program and it would make my spanish really good. and salamanca and barcelona sound amazing and jason did that same study abroad last summer and he had an amazing time. so we'll see.

next monday - CP to visit with the crew!! possible "winter break bpt" and then probably going out. cuz we're fun like that. staying at the hotel of course, and jimmy and jason are joining, and possibly others who will be around. yayyyy
next tuesday - visiting kirsten, not sure if in potomac or in cp. it's up to her since i am the guest. hopefully seeing some other trebs (frannie, what are you up to on tuesday?) and of course making a trip to bugaboo. it's what we do.
either next sunday or wednesday - visiting with kb!! i actually need to talk to her and see what would be better for her. and also for gracie/reem/jumana, since they're in the area too

and here's one of the bigger, more exciting plans
Feb. 16-18: going to ARIZONA for a leadership conference, representing the Smith school!! And not only am I going, but so are Joel, Marla, Steve, and Mike. um. best. trip. ever. We're going to have insane amounts of fun. The whole thing is paid for by the business school too. i'm so freakin' excited!!!

in other news, i thoroughly enjoy joni mitchell and jamie cullum. they are good "at work" music. since they have nothing for me to do i'm working on internship stuff. no complaints here. i need to get this stuff done and i'm conveniently getting paid to do it.

my resume is too long. again, no complaints, but i don't know how to consolidate it

i don't want to write a cover letter but i have no choice. booooo cover letters!

you guessed it - work work work. only 3 more days after today and then i am work free and $800 richer. they moved me this week because the secretary is back so i'm in the closing dept. now. it's not as much fun because i can't get away with like playing trogdor and listening to music on pandora. whatevs. i am planning to go down to MD next week to visit people - namely rachael/sam/the rest of the images crew who are in CP, kirsten/other trebs, and kelly/the rest of the "d4" people who are in the area. kirsty, when would you perfer a visit - tues or thurs?

new years was okay. i didn't drink b/c i'm on antibiotics and i really just wasn't feeling the whole "let's get smashed b/c it's a new year!" thing. maybe it's because i liked 2006 and wasn't in the mood to drink away how bad it was. or maybe i had enough drinking at school. i dunno, but either way i chilled at bex's with some lovely people, then drove mike and kacy back to their house for some ball dropping and then went home. laaaame-o

my speakers keep buzzing so i keep thinking my phone is going to ring, but it's not ringing

i started arranging numerous songs last night because i couldnt decide which i really wanted to do - "evaporated" and "smoke" by ben folds and "breathe in" by frou frou - that one i liked the best and will definitely finish. i also want to arrange "in my life" by the beatles and something by joni mitchell b/c she's awesome. i should also think about the billy joel medley, but maybe i should leave that for spring.

the power went out in my house this morning. no idea why, but i couldn't dry my hair. what a bitch.

pandora has been behaving and playing music i like. yay pandora! although i should really be reading during my off-time at work, not playing online games/updating lj/facebook stalking and listening to music. i'm going to get dumb.

i have been avoiding internship applications like the plague. don't feel like it.

i have delicious pepper steak for lunch! mmm leftovers. yay mommy and her good cooking. she is going to give me alllll her recipes for next year when i'm in my very own apt :) with kirsty of course. my aunt barbara is looking for a christmas tree for us. and i want a pet turtle.

i need to think about what my goals are as SUSA VP of marketing. I guess the two big ones are: up student involvement (by how much? i don't know about numbers) and i guess increase student awareness of what susa/the business school in general have to offer? i don't know, i suck at thinking of broad goals, aside from the obvious

Technically my lunch was over at 1:33, but I answered the phone during lunch so I think i'm entitled to an extra 10 minutes.

Work is not as boring as it was last week. I'm getting to know some of the staff and they actually have me filing, which is less boring than sitting, but more boring than fun things. today they ordered out chili's but thanks to the diet, i passed.

It's also really really cold in this office.

I wish this computer had finale, because i am in the arranging mood.

anywayyy...probably hanging out with keren tonight, which is fun. no gym today because i went to pilates on crack yesterday. the woman as insane. poconos friday. maybe i'll be able to meet up with miss rachael brown.

Christmas was pretty great. Spent Christmas Eve as a Christmas cookie baking fiend. Mmmm delicious. Then went to Aunt Barbara's for dinner with my fam, and also Mickey and Julie. Presents were exchanged, obvi. Mickey and Julie got me this really cute hat/scarf thing and a new watch which I seriously needed, Aunt Barbara got me a pearl necklace, a boogie board, and barnes and noble gift cards. awesome. Then we went to church. I must say, I miss going to church, mostly because I enjoy Pastor Steve's sermons and singing hymnals. When we got home we watched the year without a santa claus and went to bed.

Christmas!! Got up pretty early (I am still a kid at heart...well, I'm also like 30 at heart, so who knows) and had cinnamon buns and opened presents. Made out pretty good this year: tv on dvd (office season 1, lost season 2, AD season 3), business wear (i am soo professional), 2 new sweaters, new slippers, guster cd from stephen, hp 2007 calendar, andddd money. Then went to Patty Ann's and I got to see my possible future bedroom! If i work in NYC this summer and stay with her and brian anyway. I will pay rent by cooking. I love the fam, they are seriously fun. Spent Christmas night playing with stephen's ddr and watching christmas movies. love it.

And now I'm back at work. boooooo. on the bright side, only 3 hours to go! then to the gym and then who knows what tonight. not much work on the goals today. i did start my NPR application and email kate about being one of my references...i also need to email dr. barks and dean cleveland. i think i made negative progress on the diet, stupid christmas dinner.

i also started making more travel plans...definitely going to CP january 10th to stay at the hotel, hopefully going to b-more/silver spring sometime that week also...i love visiting friends!

Hmm, I made it like 2 1/2 hours before posting today! But i did do some filing and sneak onto aim, so that helped.

I feel like I should update on my goals
-made an excel sheet of internships (found 9 so far that I want to apply to)
-lost 1.5 pounds (only 13.5 to go!)
-made $80 yesterday, another $80 today
-going to see justin this weekend i think. and maybe alexa. and the fam on monday, obvi
-reading return of the king
-watched the office and my name is earl yesterday.

i think i'm doing pretty well so far.

i still have christmas shopping to do. sucks to be me, right? i am not looking forward to going to best buy at the crack of dawn to get mickey's decemberists cd. whatevs, he's pretty cool, so i guess i can do that.
i loooove christmas music. and pandora.
i went to yoga last night and now my core hurts. lol.
