Bio
My name is Jason. I load planes and work on riverboats part time. I also eat, sleep, fart, shit, fuck, drink alcohol, wander around aimlessly through life, and play music occasionally. Music occupies most of my thoughts. I've been playing music in some form since I was six. When I was fifteen or so, I decided to pick up the keyboard as my main instrument for some long forgotten reason. For years I practiced for hours on end, building on the basic fundamentals that I'd learned in my piano class, and incorporating techniqes I learned playing sax in the marching band, but did little to nothing in terms of work with bands, outside of the occasional project here and there, culminating in me attempting to drop out of music completely about four years ago. My fortunes changed a few years back, and I've been involved in some sort of musical project ever since. Currently I play in two bands. The first is called Ursa: an experimental jam project with an extremely diverse palette of sounds that change from song to song. Flaming Lips, Ween, Phish, Velvet Underground and Modest Mouse are a few bands that we've been compared to. On the complete opposite end of the musical spectrum would be the other band I'm working with: The Adversary. They're every bit as experimental and open minded as my band mates in Ursa, but they deal more in the heavier side of music, think System of a down, Faith No More and Clutch as examples. Also the songs are a bit tighter in terms of musical structure. With songs that deal with subject matter as Dungeons and Dragons and Junkie Actors, it was hard to resist taking a crack at playing with them. Both bands play yin to the other's yang and represent a strange duality in my musical tastes. On one hand I want to write and perform loud abrasive music filled with broken melodies and tons of dissonance, but I also enjoy a good pop melody (as long as it's not sappy and predictable) with intelligent songwriting. Still, I truly believe that writing about music is kinda like dancing about architecture, and that to truly get a grasp of what I'm talking about, you should listen for yourself.
