Why can't I post videos on here anymore? Has anyone encountered this problem? It's only happening on this site - perhaps my computer settings, I don't know. What do I have to do to make a video embed code post properly here? Anyone, anyone? lol : )

Ekpyrosis. [Nov. 29th, 2009|04:29 pm]
[Current Music |Venetian Snares - Öngyilkos Vasárnap]

"Prudence therefore consists in knowing how to distinguish degrees of disadvantage." (Niccolo Machiavelli)

"He is purging the soul, annihilating it, emptying it or consuming in it (even as fire consumes the moldiness and the rust of metal) all the affections and imperfect habits which it has contracted in its whole life. Since these are deeply rooted in the substance of the soul, it is won't to suffer great undoing and inward torment, besides the said poverty and emptiness, natural and spiritual, so that there may here be fulfilled that passage from Ezechiel which says: "Heap together the bones and I will burn them in the fire; the flesh shall be consumed and the whole composition shall be burned and the bones destroyed." (St. John of the Cross)

"There is no virtue if there is no immortality." (The Brothers Karamazov)

"Every one is astounded at the cause of this unexpected explosion on the part of a man thought incapable of such a thing. It is the convulsive manifestation of his personality, an instinctive melancholia, an uncontrollable desire for self-assertion, all of which obscures his reason. It is a sort of epileptic attack, a spasm. A man buried alive who suddenly wakes up must strike in a similar manner against the lid of his coffin. He tries to rise up, to push it from him, although his reason must convince him of the uselessness of his efforts. Reason, however, has nothing to do with this convulsion. It must not be forgotten that almost every voluntary manifestation on the part of the convict is looked upon as a crime. Accordingly, it is a perfect matter of indifference to them whether this manifestation be important or insignificant, debauch for debauch, danger for danger. It is just as well to go to the end, even as far as murder. The only difficulty is the first step." ('The House of the Dead')

(Fyodor Dostoevsky)

"Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now take what's left and live it properly."

"To do harm is to do yourself harm. To do an injustice is to do yourself an injustice - it degrades you./ And you can also commit injustice by doing nothing."

"Imagine their souls stripped bare. And their vanity. To suppose that their disdain could harm anyone - or their praise help them." /"They flatter one another out of contempt; and their desire to rule one another makes them bow and scrape."

"To decompose is to be recomposed."

(Marcus Aurelius)

"In his way of solacing himself; until some leech, diverted with his gravity, cures him of spirits and the spirit altogether./Seeest thou not, a pale fair girl, standing alone, far away? She drags herself now forward with slow steps, and seems as if she moves with shackled feet." (Percy Bysshe Shelley's translation of Goethe's 'Faust')

Documentaries: The Century of the Self & The Trap [Oct. 25th, 2009|09:22 pm]
[Current Mood | relaxed]
[Current Music |Angelo Badalamenti - 'Mort de la Pieuvre']

These are two documentaries by Adam Curtis (I previously posted 'The Power of Nightmares' which he also made) that I recently watched and wanted to share. I hope you find them interesting...

THE CENTURY OF THE SELF

THE TRAP : What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom?

None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free. (Goethe)

So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men. (Voltaire)

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions. (Albert Einstein)

To find yourself think for yourself. (Socrates)

I haven't been keeping up too well online lately -  I don't know how people do it! lol I'm going to try to catch up here though. I hope this finds you all well! :)

Mais le silence qui ecoute le silence. [Aug. 4th, 2009|06:24 pm]
[Current Mood | contemplative]
[Current Music |Sex Gang Children : 'Sensual Heart']

The gods have taken alien shapes upon them
Wild peasants driving swine
In a strange country.
Through the swarthy faces
The starry faces shine.
Under grey tattered skies they strain and reel there:
Yet cannot all disguise
The majesty of fallen gods, the beauty,
The fire beneath their eyes.
They huddle at night within low clay-built cabins;
And, to themselves unknown,
They carry with them diadem and sceptre
And move from throne to throne.

[Exiles, A.E.]

These perturbations, this perpetual jar
Of earthly wants and aspirations high,
Come from the influence of an unseen star,
An undiscovered planet in our sky.
And as the moon from some dark gate of cloud
Throws o'er the sea a floating bridge of light,
Across whose trembling planks our fancies crowd
Into the realm of mystery and night,--
So from the world of spirits there descends
A bridge of light, connecting it with this,
O'er whose unsteady floor, that sways and bends,
Wander our thoughts above the dark abyss.

[From 'Haunted Houses', Henry Wordsworth Longfellow]

The universe, eternity, the infinite are typified by a sphere... On a sphere every point is a center, and every point is the highest point and this explains the puzzle of time and space. There never was a beginning of time, and there will never be and end. Time always is. Any number of trillions of years hence, and any number...past, you are just as near the end, or the beginning of time as now, and no nearer. This moment is the center of time; this instant is the highest point in the revolving sphere. The same with that other form of time, space; it all balances from this point. Go to the farthest fixed star and... you have only arrived at Here. Your own doorstep is just as near the limit, and no nearer. This is the puzzle of puzzles, but it is so.  [Journals of John Burroughs]

It is only with the heart that one sees rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye. [The Little Prince]

You are looking to contemplate the past. What future could equal it's fury? [Reb Domanas]

Death, enriched, praises the harvest/
No more season of flame and season of shadow/
The lepers come down with the slow snow/
Suddenly, love the equal of terror,
With a hand I had never seen,
Puts and end to the fire,
straightens the sun,
reshapes the beloved.
Nothing had heralded so strong an existence.

お化け [Jul. 2nd, 2009|03:03 pm]
[Current Music |Elend - The Silence of Light]

... Living only for the moment, turning our full attention to the pleasures of the moon, the snow, the cherry blossoms and the maple leaves; singing songs, drinking wine, diverting ourselves in just floating, floating; ... refusing to be disheartened, like a gourd floating along with the river current: this is what we call the floating world...

PLEASE SUPPORT EQUAL RIGHTS FOR GAY & LESBIAN COUPLES... [Nov. 12th, 2008|09:43 pm]

Please support marriage equality for all! It's not just a gay rights issue, it's a human rights issue.
All people should be free to choose who they love and have the rights and respect they deserve.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere...Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Who would give a law to lovers? Love is unto itself a higher law.

Boethius, The Consolation of Philosophy, A.D. 524

Whether humanity will consciously follow the law of love, I do not know. But that need not disturb me. The law will work just as the law of gravitation works, whether we accept it or not. The person who discovered the law of love was a far greater scientist than any of our modern scientists. Only our explorations have not gone far enough and so it is not possible for everyone to see all its workings.

I will fish out your empty soul
In the coffin where your mouldy body lies
I will hold your empty soul
I will tear off it's beating wings
Its coagulated dreams
And I will swallow it.

Between your teeth

In my belly

Peels my body

Hi. I haven't updated yet because my computer (not this one I'm writing from, the one with all my important files, photos, and programs on it...of course!) has a really malicious bug of some sort...spyware or a virus...I don't know, but it's completely unusable. I have a friend coming over tonight, or tomorrow night, to help me try to fix it, so wish me luck! Then I'll catch up here. I hope you're all well. xo

HUGE ART POST | Mostly Painting & Illustration.| Other Stuff too... [Apr. 6th, 2008|06:32 pm]
[Current Mood | creative]
[Current Music |Otto Dix - 'Beliy Pepel']

Hello again! I am so behind here! I meant to post most of this a while back. It takes a lot these days to get me in front of the computer long enough to finish a proper entry, even though I'd like to really. Today I woke up way too early, and couldn't get back to sleep- so I am semi- delirious, and decided just about the only thing I am actually capable of doing is sitting in front of a screen. haha Hence! Today's entry! :)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I post a lot of photography, but I wanted to focus a bit on painting, illustration, drawing, etc.- because I've found a lot of cool things lately- like the amazing poster art of Franciszek Starowieyski. There's also a lot that I've loved for sometime and wanted to share. Other artists in this post are : Felicien Rops, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Leonor Fini, Hajime Sorayama, Tamara de Lempicka, Clovis Trouille, and Adachi Kakoujyo. I also included some cool links to films and books, that I hope you enjoy. There's some other odds and ends in there too. Something about Jayne Mansfield being a Satanist and Vivienne Westwood shoes. ;P And toward the end, I threw in a bit of personal stuff, for those who are curious as to how I've been and what I've been up to! Oh! And this entry- for those of you at work or somewhere that requires discretion- contains artistic nudity and blasphemy! :P It's not graphic, PG-13, but I just thought I'd give a heads up...;)

I am posting this because I just finished watching it and crying my eyes out. I urge you to watch this enlightening and unsettling documentary, in it's entirety, with and open mind and and open heart. It is not meant to hurt, shock, or offend...quite the opposite, actually. I wanted to share this out of love and respect for you all.

Life's splendor forever lies in wait about each one of us in all its fullness, but veiled from view, deep down, invisible, far off. It is there, though, not hostile, not reluctant, not deaf. If you summon it by the right word, by its right name, it will come.

[Current Mood | disappointed]
[Current Music |Velvet Acid Christ: 'Machine']

Tomorrow the Senate will vote on whether to rein in the policy of torture that has undermined U.S. intelligence capabilities and damaged the reputation of our country.

Thousands of activists like you told your Representatives to establish one clear standard of humane treatment for all detainees in U.S. custody. They did. Now it's the Senate's turn!

Your Senators are voting TOMORROW, and it could be very close – which means you can make a huge difference right now.

Send a message to your Senators today: It's time to take torture and other cruel treatment off the table.

Hi. :) Finally I'm updating (not for lack of trying), because I have some time to spare, though it's unfortunatly because I'm sick with some sort of cold, at home in a malaise. As usual, if not more so there has been a lot going on- but because I'm frankly a bit delirious from fever and meds, I think it would be a bit easier to just post a photos I've taken over over the past couple months to serve as a sort of synopsis...
