My real name is Virginia Katherine McMath. I was born in Independence, Missouri on July 16th 1911. I grew up in Texas however, we moved there when I was very little.
I started doing vaudeville when I was 14 and starred on Broadway when I was 17 in the production Top Speed. I was encouraged to try film work and did a screen test. I made my first film in 1929 at the age of 18 in A Night in a Dormitory. So far (1935) I have starred in over 30 films. I am currently working on my fourth film with Fred Astaire, Top Hat.
