beware

so, despite working at an advanced computing center, my home pc has been particularly ... what is the opposite of advanced ??? crap, for a long while. I remember I was living back at the old holden st house, last time I upgraded it. Scary.

So on Sat, I finally took the plunge and bought a new one.

And Sunday, I finally got everything swapped over and happy and working. Until I noticed today, the CD drive not opening, opened the case, to find I'd unplugged it, due to lack of power from the PSU. Whoops. So this morning, traded the 'adequate' psu from the new box for my nice shiny antec psu in my old box, with power cables EVERYWHERE, and now it purrs like a kitten _and_ opens the cd tray when you press the button. luxury.

The only downside so far (aside from not quite getting this 32bit chroot for firefox plugins working) is that it turns out my video cards dvi output doesn't send out analog as well. meaning I can't tack a dvi->vga adaptor on there and do twinview. Unless I buy an lcd ... *hmmmm*

So tonight, I'll be ripping out the sblive I brought across from the old box, just incase the onboard sound wasn't up to scratch (it turns out it is .. and unless i'm imagining things, it has hardware mixing too), and putting in my old crappy matrox second video card, so I can be back to dualhead, until I either buy a new video card with dvi-i output, or an lcd.

are we happy now ?

as i do, once every time i move house, today i fixed my record player

this time it involved buying a dual rca lead from k-mart, cutting it to bits, and splicing it back together onto the mostly dead lead coming from the record player. discovered my stereo doesn't have enough oomph to recieve this, and thus also had to drag out my lil 2 track mixer/amp. so much effort.

so this afternoon, i have, and plan to continue, been playing my rather limited collection of records, which I really only hear once a year. no doubt, tomorrow, i'll pack my record player away again, and won't get it out for another year ... what a shame

high points:

- gouache
- the andrews ep - andrew coffee and andrew sousa
- light's suprising constancy
- 99
- a zillion spinanes 7 inches i bought on ebay and hadn't listened to yet

if only i had the space to leave this baby set up permanently

my line of the night:

Dude Talking about 'StarStruck' judges: What has that guy done recently... What's his name. Doug Mulgrave?
Me: Doug Mulgrave?? Yea, he's been hanging out with Glen Camberwell

bah, I laughed

19 days till we go to New Zealand. Any suggestions for things to do between Auckland and Wellington ??

Last night I amused myself by ordering a pot of beer and a lemonade at the same time, then making mouth shandies. There was something wrong with the Old Bar beer, and that was the only way I could drink it. Eww. I'm sure I took photos, but I'm too lazy to view them.

So, uhh, what's new ?
