ADVENTURES! [08 Oct 2008|10:12am]

risus
so, dog sitting for my friend Sheila has been an ADVENTURE! I sort of missed them last night (I went home to pack and sleep in my own bed for one night before going to Earlham) - especially when my cat woke me up at two thirty in the mornign meowing in my face (okay that's cute), but when I got up to get her out of the room and go to the bathroom she'd left a neat little pile of puke right in front of my door. I decided then that she definitely wasn't going to be allowed in to sleep with me, not after behaving so spitefully, and I had to pile up all sorts of things in front of the door to keep her out! I love her, but geeze. no need to be so spiteful! Though, all in all they're really hairy and not too cuddly or snuggly or fun, so it'll be nice to get home and wash all the dog hair out of my clothes and snuggle with Miss Mia, who will hopefully be over our being gone for so much of the last few days!

Tegan & Sara with Scott and Eric was a lot of fun. I would have left a lot earlier and been right up front, if given the option, but that wasn't our plan...and I still managed to enjoy a great show. the drive up alone with Eric was actually better than I'd thought. my favorite thing about eric is that he actually talks - sometimes he makes me mad as hell talking about the stupidest things, but at least he doesnt just sit and stew and be silent! also, he dates a 37 year old. I like that too. haha. it's the funniest, awkwardest (is that a word?) thing ever! EVER!

I'm super pumped to be going flying to dayton tonight! I hven't been back to Earlham since my graduation in May 2007 and I've really missed it, the place, the people, the feeling. I'm excited to see the few friends that I still have on campus, and to visit familiar places and hopefully see some familiar professor faces! haha, I had to say it that way b/c it rhymes. I'm not supposed to have friday off, so mums the word at work, which is hard and has prevented me from really getting psyched! I keep remembering that I'm going, and I'm totally surprised. it's not exactly the best timing for me, work wise, as I'm super busy with the Parent Teacher Conference preparations, but I am *oh so ready* for a break from boston, and work, and the world, so YAY.

BACK TO WORK!

In happy news [30 Sep 2008|08:54pm]

There she is! She's got her momma's nose and her grandpa Leonard's lips. I think she may have my eyes, but it's kinda hard to tell. In any case, she's healthy, 2.5 pounds, and is growing some hair now. She's been kicking around a bit, but is rather stubborn-she doesn't kick for me very much.

Exciting stuff!

And I leave you with a mommy belly photo:

Bailout Plan [30 Sep 2008|08:23pm]

frolickingbits
I am honestly very happy that the bailout plan failed.  The concept of privatizing profits while socializing losses is ludicrous, and runs counter to the concept of free markets espoused by the Bush administration.  To add insult to injury, Paulson further insinuated that the American people, and further, the members of Congress need not know what he's up to, by requesting that the actions of the treasury not be reviewable.

$700 billion dollars directly to Wall Street, to prop up a market created by the greed and loose morals of the lending markets.  Granted, those that took out mortgages they could not realistically afford are not completely without blame.  However, anyone with an iota of business sense should be able to deduce that lending money to somebody who can't afford to pay you back is a bad business plan.  Just because you can convince the couple making $50,000 a year combined that they can afford a $400,000 house does not make it true.

I believe the real way to solve this issue is to aggressively act to slow foreclosures.  If the government is willing to give $700 billion to the banks, they should have no problem writing legislation requiring the banks to identify those who can pay their mortgages if they are rewritten with more favorable terms, and to require the banks to provide no cost refinancing for borrowers facing foreclosure.  The real basis of this problem is the rise in foreclosures, making mortgage backed securities less and less stable.  If the government acts to halt foreclosures, mortgage backed securities are once again a sound investment.  Problem solved.  I would also be strongly in favor of banning ARM's, balloon mortgages, and other dangerous and predatory lending products.

There is currently about $10.5 trillion in mortgage debt in the US, with the average home price falling around $291,000.  That gives me about 36,082,274 mortgages in the country  If the government wanted to just give $700 billion away, that would be $19,400 for every mortgage holder in the country.  Problem solved-a lot of those individuals facing foreclosure now have the down payment to go refinance their home with a fixed rate mortgage.

WTF!?! [30 Sep 2008|12:56pm]

[ music | just my feet tapping...nervously.... ]

dear friends,

I am so so SO anxious today, that I can barely sit still. I am like twitching. PLUS I totally accidentally said FRICK (under my breath) in the presence of a couple of tiny tiny students.

FRICK.

also, a couple weeks ago New Buddy and I went and saw Gaelic Storm, and this band, the Adam Ezra Group, from sommerville opened for them and left me wondering....how haven't I heard of this local group!?! they are great, Adam Ezra - their front man - is painfully goregous and I love them! plus the drummer and I totally had a moment where I was totally rockin' out and singing along to a fun cover (that I just can't think of right now), and he looked at me, and laughed (and in a "you're cool" way, not a "haha what an idiot way!") and said "AWESOME!" it was fun.

this weekend we're going to see Tegan & Sara in worchester w/ Eric. I'm pretty excited that going to concerts is our thing. you all know how live music makes me feel (amazing).

also on the horizon, abby and I are pet sitting for a friend up the road for the week AND I am flying to dayton to visit good old Earlham College for a long LONG weekend a week from tomorrow. Hurray!

mk. back to twitching.
abrazos all around, L.
