me-tmas blues
having your name be part of a holiday you don't actually endorse is a little bit of a bummer. fortunately my chosen name being part of a holiday i entirely endorse is totally cool. i believe i shall have a (real) party to celebrate april-my-day this april--i hope you'll all come! i'll have to figure out a killer theme for it, which doesn't involve my house being filled with stinkbombs, silly string, wedgies, and/or styrofoam packing peanuts. stay tuned!

my littlest sister dyed my hair blue again yesterday. my mother objected vociferously and vehemently, and then fell back to pleading. she's not as upset today once she realized that you can only tell it's blue, and pretty close to being just blue highlights at that, in direct sunlight. otherwise it just looks like i have dark hair again. i'm happy to go out with a blue bang--it's really time for a haircut but i'm putting that off til sometime in mid-jan, at which point i'll probably just have brown hair again. and quite frankly blue's been my favorite even after the rainbow of fruit flavors i undertook in the past year and a half.

we made it back to fort worth around 7pm on friday night and so far i have spent the vast majority of time in a reclined or otherwise slouched position, moving very little. i'm definitely of two minds about this. so yesterday i had [info]meredith_mccraw drive me (in dad's convertible, natch) over to academy to buy some skate shorts since i'd brought skates but no shorts, and while cruising past the mall, we radio-surfed over to this track:

http://cridecoeur.vox.com/library/audio/6a00c2251ec0a6604a00cd9701c0474cd5.html

which we cranked up (two white kids in a fancy bmw...yay cognitive dissonance) and laughed about for at least 10 minutes. in case you haven't heard something like it before, the original is a classic song by afroman--but the holiday rendition was so appreciated in the midst of all the canned xmas music we were subjected to in our several retail (sigh) experiences during the journey.

so i figured to take a few hours to go for a long skate today, but once we'd finished brunching and digesting, it started sprinkling just enough to make skating treacherous. argh. maybe tomorrow. that does have me a little down and feeling kinda pent-up. but at the same time, just relaxing at the parents' with people i like, playing sufficient in-person scrabble, vegetating, reading, napping, cooking, and eating, is rather pleasant.

fortunately i did get a chance to shake it up a bit with [info]tankgirl76 and a select few others from the TVS graduating class of 1994 over coffee and drinks yesterday, which was illustrative of some things to be thankful for--i love my life! the excitement, the variety, the *great unknowns* are really worth every down i suffer to find those ups. two of the folks at the meetup were very much on the paths they'd chosen in 1990, and are ready to carry on in that vein forever. another one has always been a bit of an enigma, but the mannerisms didn't change and there was no mention of life-changing events, though the question asking about life-changing events was dodged by that one...so who knows? maybe a change of sexual orientation, maybe a spiritual or antispiritual moment occurred but wasn't proclaimed. and then there's [info]tankgirl76 and i. finding our way, still not sure where things are going, but sure we're doing good things, even if we can't know our paths to be "right" or even sure that there *is* a right path. and the nice thing is...that even the folks who are following their paths seem happy. more power to the happy people, no matter how they get there (at least if it harm none).

so there's that.

You're handsome no matter what color your hair is.

If I made new year's resolutions, I would say that mine is to spend more qual time with people I love... You're tops on that list, my pet. Quality time in '07 (before you take off on your bike)!
