"His valour was as a fire and yet steadfast as the hills of stone; wise he was and skilled in voice and hand; troth and justice he loved and bore good will to all, both Elves and Men, hating Morgoth only; he sought not his own, neither power nor glory, and death was his reward."
Eldest of Fingolfin's children, Fingon became King of the Noldor after his father Fingolfin was slain by Morgoth. Fingon is famed for rescuing Maedhros from Thangorodrim, and thereby healing the rift between the Houses of the Noldor. As High King, Fingon commanded the assault upon Morgoth that became known as the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. In that assault he was slain by Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs.
