devendra banhart makes a 2-second appearance in nick & norah's infinite playlist. UHHHHHHH.

also, at 1:15am i woke up because there was this huge (like escalade-huge) SUV parked right beside the dumpster which is very close to my window, and it was full of girls, and they were blasting that song that's like I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY SAY I'M IN LOOOOOVE WITH YOU (i googled it, it's leona lewis). it was so loud. but there were a million girls and they were like shout-singing along with it and it felt like it never ended.

and yesterday i was driving, and tasha was with me, and we were stopped at a light behind this SUV for like two whole minutes before i realized there was a fucking DEAD DEER HEAD staring at me through the back window, holy asidgojiaosg. and it was positioned this weird way and i was extremely freaked out but i also thought it was hilarious and i could barely drive after that.

i got a neat winter hat yesterday. and had a soft pretzel.

kdagjidsojgoae homework time.

Change I Can't Believe In
Aug 26 '08

The Bottom Line

The Democratic Party needs to understand that change is not always for the better.

I do not believe in change based on inspiration without sound foundation. I believe that people are easily manipulated by charisma and vague appeals to hope, and that when emotion confounds logic, objectivity goes out the window. Inspiration is an invitation to all kinds of mischief. America will not benefit from a President thundering from the pulpit.

I do not believe that politics should operate like a revival meeting. I do not believe that it is the job of government or leaders to affirm faith as a primary mode of thought or action. I do not believe that the country is well-served by leaders who model faith and inspiration over sound judgment and critical thinking skills.

I do not believe that America is well-served by both parties pandering to the nation's religious elements, where one party, wedded to the religious left, is pitted against another linked to the religious right. I believe in government based on secular principles, separate from religiosity and religious organizations.

I do not believe in advancement based primarily on charisma, personality, age, or physical appearance. I do not believe in advancing one person over another based on personality, much less their gender, skin color, or sexual preferences. I believe in advancing people based on character, ability, merit, and experience. I believe in rewarding a history of service and performance, rather than mere rhetoric.

I do not trust those who seek to get ahead at all cost, designing a persona around electability surveys, turning on longtime friends when the association is no longer convenient to advancement, or gliding loosely from one position to another at different stages of an election. A genuine leader stands on principle even when it is not politically expedient. When there is neither a track record nor firmness in stated positions, there can be no predicting what that person will do.

I do not believe in presidents as figureheads – as sock-puppets for one faction or another of the ruling elite.

I believe that a man who loves and cares for his family and who is loved by them in return is a good family man and should be appreciated as such. I do not believe that being a good family man is a qualification for the Presidency.

I have believed all my life in the principles of the Democratic Party. I believe in equal opportunity, diversity, and compassion for the neediest members of society. I reject greed and obscene disparities in income and opportunity. I do not, however, believe in the kinds of changes in those principles represented by Barack Obama.

Since I posted it late yesterday, here it is again for good measure:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY

Six brand new strips, won't appear anywhere but right there, blah blah. Good times!

Those took up all the time I had for NN2S comics this week, so the next page of the story will go up on Monday. Everyone's getting together last minute merch to take to Fest with them, which means I am as busy as I've ever been trying to get a billion things done all in one week. None of which I can show you until later! But rest assured I am getting plenty done and I'm not just laying around all day drinking coffee and watching old Larry Sanders Shows.

Hey now.

For those of you who have been jonesing (Did I just say "jonesing"? What am I, Aerosmith?) for some Nothing Nice comics in good old fashioned strip format, here's six brand new ones I made exclusively for MySpace Comics:

(btw, I assume they'll be fixing that thing so my name is spelled correctly at some point, but who knows)

Must. Post. This.

I can't help it.
I'll put it behind a cut, in case it...offends anyone?

LMAO )

Also, Jimmy Kimmel rocks my world. Apparently last night he said something about how he voted for Sarah Palin four times, and for David Archuleta six? lol, I don't know, but YAY for the David reference! :)

Oh, and go buy David Cook's single "Light On"...you know you want to. ;) It's not entirely representative of his talent, but it's pretty catchy!

i just went through my entire closet and almost all of my things look obviously too loose on me (including the jeans i bought recently when i was so happy 'cause i went down a size). in fact, all of my newer things don't look right anymore. most of the things that look ok are things that i kept because i was like "oh maybe i'll fit back into this someday." which makes me feel niiiice, but... ihavealotofclothes and now they don't fit. i don't know if i am more frustrated or more happy. anyways.

i made horchata yesterday and it sucked.

If you're going to Fest, it looks like Avi the Friendly Merch Guy will be joining my good friend Bryan Ohio for the weekend Bryan booked, or helped book, or however the hell that works. I don't know. What I know is they will be there and they will have copies of my new book at their merch table, you are more than welcome to stop by and pick some up. I think they're gonna have some other NN2S merch there as well, couple shirts, probably some buttons and stickers and the like. Plus, probably more importantly, they're gonna be hosting some really cool bands.

I don't know which venue or anything yet, so stay tuned, I'll keep you posted. In the mean time, there's still several other, faster ways to buy my book right now!

grocery shopping, you are my one true love

(not really)

mom calls me all the time telling me to panic and fill up my gas tank. i think she's an idiot but i just say ok and hope she'll think that's where all my money is going. she's not smart enough to figure out that since 1) everything in boone is within a 4-mile radius , 2) i only drive anywhere a couple times a week at most, 3) my car gets crazy good gas mileage, probably up around 35mpg or so but i've never counted, and 4) i also have a pretty large gas tank... i never need gas.

chem lab today was intense. it took the whole three hours. blahhhhh. but the lab report for this lab isn't due for another three weeks, and i got a 95% on my last one. i think i'm doing ooooook this semester.

9. To the precipitate, add 3 drops of 3% H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). Then add 12 drops of concentrated HCl and 5 drops of concentrated HNO3. Caution: This mixture of concentrated HCl:HNO3 is known as aqua regia. It's about the most corrosive and meanest concoction of acids available and will dissolve practically anything... including fingers and jewelry. In fact, the alchemists used aqua regia in medieval days to dissolve various metals. So, USE GLOVES.

but won't it dissolve my gloves THEN my fingers? D:

(it didn't)

i would like to preface this entry by saying: i only played a few games of beer pong. i was not drunk and i am not drunk.

ian gave me a tattoo of me in a tank yelling "BITCHS" (yeah that is how it's spelled). it's real; someone had a tattoo gun? i love it. if i wake up in the morning still loving it, he's committed to a whole battle scene across my back. (it's low on my left shoulder blade.)

I may or may not have mentioned this a while ago:

So Virgil from Vinyl Collective contacted me a while ago and told me about a series of records he's putting out. The series is called "Under the Influence", and will comprise of over a dozen split 7"s, each featuring a different band doing a cover of a band or song they consider influential to their sound. My beautiful fiancee Amanda and I, in turn, are making the covers for each of these, designed as parodies of the original album art. I can never think of how to explain that so it makes sense.

So I draw them, Amanda watercolors them, Virgil puts them out, and everyone dances naked in a circle like in the Wicker Man (the original, not that weird Nic Cage abomination from a couple years ago), and good times are had.

The bands involved and the songs they're covering are all being kept top secret, for the most part, so I can't tell you about any of them until Vinyl Collective announces them officially. So I can only show you two of the several we have so far, but here you go!

Kick it:

Good times, great oldies. There are some really, REALLY solid records coming up in this series (one in particular I absolutely cannot wait to hear, you'll know it when it comes), plus some art that I am quite proud of. Plus, it's super fun getting to collaborate with Amanda on something finally. My two favorite things in the whole world, drawing and Amanda, all rolled into one! It's a winter wonderland. Stay tuned!

Alright! That time again:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY

At some point it dawned on me that doing what is the equivalent of four regular sized NN2S strips all at once with this new format, PLUS the fact that the storyline demands art more dynamic than two characters standing against a plain white backdrop, this is the most work I've ever had to put into any sort of comic ever, and adding several extra hours of work to color everything is just nonsense. So, I apologize any of you are disappointed, but honestly, I'm finishing this up right now and it's 4AM, if I'd have colored this I wouldn't be done until probably seven or eight. So yeah, no thanks.

The arc is moving along. I might do more than one update this week since I'm not bothering with color anymore, and since the next two pages are more story than comedy, so it might be best to crank those out quickly lest anyone get bored. Or offended. Or itchy.

BOOK NEWS!

In case you missed it over the weekend, MY BOOK IS OUT NOW!

I've been hearing from a lot of people that stores aren't ordering enough copies. By which I mean the few stores that bothered to order any only ordered one, and so it'll be bought by the time you might show up to buy it (unless you live in Australia and your bookstore ordered a hundred thousand and they still all sold out -- seriously, when the fuck did I get crazy famous in Australia? How did that happen?).

SO. What you need to do, if you want to get your hands on this book before everyone else does, call your local bookstore of choice on the phone and ask if they have a copy, and, if they don't, ask them to order you one. Every bookstore does this, and they'll call you when it comes in. You'd be wise to take this route before they all sell and there's none left for everyone (or, more likely, before none of them sell because bookstores aren't ordering them without provocation, and so no one buys them since they're not stocked anywhere, and then Dark Horse feels they've wasted their time and money on a failure of a book and I'm cast aside like yesterday's leftovers and OH GOD I CAN'T TAKE THE PRESSURE.

*ahem*

So yeah, please do that, please pick up a copy of the book.

ALSO, for those of you who preordered the book from my store, some stupid shipping problem happened and we got our books later than other stores. BUT. They are being sent out, and they all have the buttons, no worries. Thanks for being patient.
