Very few times in ones life do they have ego affirming moments like I just experienced. While it may sound petty and kid of silly, I came out of it feeling elated.
Backstory: As some of you might know, I believe that in a past life, I was a strong black woman. Not like, lumberjack... but like, an outspoken woman who knows what she wants. Every once in awhile, she comes out from me for others to witness.
On my drive home from Casa de Awesome tonight, I was in my mom's truck stopped at Emmett and Ballard - the one by the two liquor stores - and I was waiting for these two African American guys to walk across the street. As I they start their journey, one guy waves a quick "thank you", and I wave back. He then proceeds to "check out" my truck. Not just look at it, but like, if my truck were a woman, he was mentally undressing her. He admired the round, chrome details and the smooth, shiny white paint job. And here's where my heart skipped a beat - he nodded his approval of the car. I, Loren Sanders, white girl extraordinaire, received a complimentary, "Dang. That's nice..." African American man head nod.
Which then affirmed to me that,
I had been, indeed, a strong black woman at some point.
