But what do I wear?
So it looks like I'm going to the Serenity premiere and after party. I'm equal parts excited and terrified. What should I wear? How will I manage to not make an ass of myself? Will there be places for me to hide? Will I terrify the pretty actors with my misshapen face? Is the pink too dressy? Is the blue too plain? Does the orange top make me look pregnant?
see outfits )

The bother is that everything is happening at once. The premiere, the fan fest at Universal, my move - all the same weekend. And we're going into production at work so it's not a great time to be asking to leave early. I'm going to have to spend this weekend at the new place waiting around for stuff to be hooked up, which is actually kinda exciting. I have to give up my beloved DirectTV but with my new digital cable package I get the Science channel! (shut up, I'm cool)

I'll actually be relieved when September is over and my life goes back to being boring.

Here's some stuff I made for [info]serenitysummer in case you aren't a member and are therefor lame.

today
My favorite part of today was the entirety of LA being without power for 2 hours. The two hours of lunch, of course. No shops were open so I had some peanuts, three pretzels and orange juice for lunch. Filling and tasty.

I added a bunch of wallpapers to my site. They're all from The Message and were made for [info]serenitysummer

ETA: I used to have a link to a very handy grid of all the tv dramas. It was monthly and had pop-up descriptions when you passed your mouse over a show. Sound familiar to anyone? I miss that site.

blah jobs blah
All that sturm und drang and Claudette decides she's not leaving so they don't have the opening anymore.
For the best, I guess. Now I don't have to agonize. Thank you for all the advice, though.

Anyway, to distract myself I made this for [info]blackperson

Bush Campaign Paints Kerry As Pre-Raphaelite Contessa
God I love the Onion
The last couple of days have been good.
Yesterday at 10:10 I realized that my car was parked in a 10-12 street cleaning zone and I ran out (7 blocks) and made it to the car at 10:20. I was so sure I was going to have a ticket. But I didn't. Yay! Tickets in LA, btw, are Expensive. Anyway, I was jubilant. So then I went to work where the dsl went down so we basically hung around and talked about the election. During the down time I also finished up some arts:

Also, I went through my bag and found 10$. Which funded my day at Starbucks.

Los Angeles is a sweltering jungle
Which is why I'm skipping the orientation thingy at ucla. I'm not leaving my place next to the fan until the weather gets a hold of its self and starts behaving.
Not that sitting in front of my computer all day is any great trial. I watched B5 and La Femme Nikita, which I'm still ambivalent about. It's just not funny. I know she's forced to be a spy for an organization with dubious morals, but does she have to be so dour? I just find it exhausting. On a happier note: I finally got some photoshop time in and this is what happened:

The Slayer
Alias )
Firefly )
Farscape )
Also, I read the EW TV preview and made a grid so I can keep track of what I want to watch. The grid is here if anyone's interested. I may not end up watching all of it, but the highlighted shows I'm at least intrigued with for one reason or another. I doubt I'll like the OC, but I'm tired of having no idea what my fl is going on about. I'm going to tune in for Tru solely because Jane Espenson joined the writing staff, but I don't anticipate watching long. Joan of Arcadia is another show that I'm watching solely so I can stop feeling left out. I've heard Life as we know it is horribly crude, but the creators worked on Freaks and Geeks, so I feel I should give it a try. I've heard good things about Veronica Mars, but I'm not so sure I buy the premise and it's up against Scrubs. The show I'm most excited about is Lost. I loved the pilot.
It's wonderful to have TV back.

look at all the cuts
TMI )
So, there are a lot of tv shows. And I don't watch nearly enough of them. My Netflix queue has been very full lately. I'm on season three of Babylon 5, which is quite possible the most perfectly plotted television show in the history of tv.
And there's this scene that reminds me of Buffy season 7:

Will: The bad ones(officers) were loaded down with this sense of terrible responsibility. It consumed them. They wanted to do right by the men and women under their command, but after awhile they just became more and more isolated, unapproachable, down right unsociable.
Sheridan: Cranky?
Will: Now...that's as good a word as any. They were in such a fog of worry and self-doubt that nobody could get through. When your worry tank gets full people stop coming to you 'cause they don't want to add to it. Have to empty out your worry tank once in a while or you just get more isolated.

I got Monk last night, which I didn't really like. It's kinda funny, but it's always the same joke. I don't think I'll rent anymore of them. I've also been renting the Dick Van Dyke show. I love it more than anything. He writes a tv show and his wife has perfect hair and his kid hides in cabinets and it's just wonderful and perfect. I want to be Dick van Dyke.

So far I've accomplished very little today. I finished up some wallpapers, though.

Today I went to a block party and tried to be sociable. I talked to people, I did. I stayed for like an hour. For me, that's pretty good.
Anyway, my big accomplishment was finally finishing this:

First Post
I finally broke down and set up a live journal. And what a hassle it was. I think I spent about an hour total trying to figure out a good enough password. Apparently, even my random typing is "too systematic." I half expected to get in and be offered access to nuclear launch codes. Oh well, it's here now and I have another distraction, thank God.
This post is a little boring so I'm going to add this:

Maybe the most that we can do is just to see each other through it.
Cause it goes so well with my color scheme.
