NEW YORK CITY - The Metropolitan Museum of Art has acquired a drawing of the Archangel Gabriel announcing the birth of Christ by the Netherlandish master Lucas van Leyden (Leyden ca. 1494 – 1533 Leyden).  The drawing, dating to the 1520s, enters the Museum's collection through the combination of a promised gift by Leon D. and Debra R. Black and purchase by the Museum. It is now the only drawing by the artist in America. The work, in pen and brown ink with traces of squaring in black chalk, is the pendant to a drawing depicting the Virgin looking up from her book that is in the Kupferstich kabinett, Berlin.

MEXICO CITY - The Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL) and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes (MBAR) present the exhibition La carne y el color (The Flesh and the Color), through October 19, 2008. The show gathers paintings and drawings from both cultural institutions. The exhibition presents a total of 89 works by 73 artists. Among them are David Alfaro Siqueiros, Pablo Caliari “Veronese”, Luca Giordano, José Clemente Orozco, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Yves Tanguy, Roberto Montenegro and Gerardo Murillo.

BARCELONA, SPAIN - Barcelona’s Palau Robert Catalan Information Centre and museum  plays host to the exhibition “Dalí in Cadaqués by Robert Descharnes” at “The Photographer’s Showcase” from 24 July to 28 September. The exhibition brings together an unprecedented display of some thirty photographs illustrating the relationship between the painter and the personages of his most immediate entourage in his favorite settings, Cadaqués and Empordà. In addition, an audiovisual montage will be shown featuring the collection’s entire set of 177 photographs.
