Tutorial 02 - London Time
Yay, another tutorial!

*note: this tutorial is most compatible with PSP8
First we'll start with this base;

The picture comes courtesy of FriendsGeneration.com. After I've resized the picture and put it into 100x100 form, I do the following;
Adjust > Color Balance > Fade Correction (set the fade correction to 33)
Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen
Voila! That's how I got the base you see above.

Next I'll duplicate the layer and set it to Soft Light with the opacity set to 100%. Now my base looks like this;

I decide now would be a good time for exclusion layer so I select Exclusion and fill it with #0B0D33, opacity 100%.

I think the picture looks a little too dark, so I decide to lighten it up a little bit. I set my layer to Dodge and fill it with #FFFFB6 and set the opacity at 48%

The next layer I fill with the same color as the previous layer but set it to Multiply at 70% opacity

I think Chandler & Monica look too light, so I fill the layer with black (#000000) and set the layer to Multiply at 18% opacity

At this point I like the coloring but decide it needs a little texturing. So this next layer uses this texture from [info]crumblingwalls

I set the layer to Multiply at 14% opacity and end up with this

I think the icon still needs more texture so I borrow another texture from [info]crumblingwalls

and set it to Burn at 42% opacity. I end up with this:

I think this looks okay so far so I decide to add a border. This border comes from [info]moonjuiceicons

I create a layer for the border and set it to Multiply at 100% opacity.

Almost done! Now there's ample room for text, so I just flip the icon by doing this
Image > Rotate > Rotate Clockwise 90

In the room for the text I decide to use a quote from Chandler; "I'm still on london time, does that count?" (which of course Monica agrees :)

For "london time" I set it to Violation pt.10 and the layer is set to screen at 86% with colors chosen from the the icon. For "I'm still on" and "does that count" I used 04b_03b at pt. 6. The layer is set to 66% opacity and also is colored from the icon. Both fonts can be found at DaFont.com. (note: Bitmap fonts are a lot easier and nicer looking if you check off the anti-alias)

After adding text the final product comes to this!

I hope this tutorial was helpful to you. Comments, questions, feedback, etc. are all appreciated. If you look through my memories in the Tutorials sections, you'll see that I've saved tutorials I've used on my own icons from other iconmakers that I found helpful. As always if you take this icon, please credit _diamondicons. Enjoy :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to write up this tutorial - it makes me believe that one day I might be able to try this.

I have Photoshop 7.0. Do you know if this will work the same for my program or should I keep looking?

I have Photoshop as well and it seems like everything translates over. The only thing I see a little different is the first part with the adjustments. You can adjust the colors manually or go to Image>adjust>auto color and for the sharpening go to filter>sharpen>sharpen. There are some great tutorials for Photoshop 7 out there as well too!

that's quite all right :) most tutorials I see are either made for PS 7 or 8, you just have to play around with them until you see what works. But all of my tutorials here will be for PSP8
