My karma is my dharma. I'm a Pisces Ox. I'm not perfect. I'm a US citizen living in Canada. I believe that if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem - and I include snarky people in the "part of the problem" bucket. What more is there to say?

Daredevils by Sherman Burns
Part of each of us
Were broken in childhood.
Most have healed
Like bone, stronger
Than before.
But some break
Over and over
Finally mending,
Not with a limp
More a faltering.
For which we've learned
To compensate by
Walking tightropes over canyons
And doing handstands
On flagpoles.
Letting the world
See us whole
Fragile balance
A way of life.

"...Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
- Viktor Frankl

"If we single-pointedly practice great compassion, then, with little effort, we will be able to gain all other virtues."
- Geshe Namgyal Wangchen (contemporary Tibetan Buddhist)
"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."
- Nikka - age 6
"When a thing ceases to be a subject of controversy, it ceases to be a subject of interest."
- William Hazlitt, English essayist and literary critic
"What's happening now is critical and horrible, and yet we need to find our own sense of slowing down, so we can respond from clarity and inner dignity and calm, rather than frustration. It's like Gary Snyder says: What's happening now is totally urgent, so we have to act as if our hair's on fire - and yet we also need to act as if we have all the time in the world."
- Phil Catalfo
"To think that we must dispense with all traditional language, symbols, and concepts in order to speak about that which is deepest and dearest, the precious source of human good, is to assume that no human beings were ever before so clever, so profound, or so committed as we are; that those who have been down the path of life before us have no wisdom to teach, that we can learn nothing from all that they have left to us....Most of all, we must not succumb to the fettering literal-mindedness that afflicts us today no less than those who came before us; rejecting religious language because we cannot believe it literally is just as constraining as believing we must do exactly as it says."
- Kendyl Gibbons
"The Axial sages were not interested in providing their disciples with a little edifying uplift, after which they could return with renewed vigour to their ordinary self centered lives. Their objective was to create an entirely different kind of human being. All the sages preached a spirituality of empathy and compassion; they insisted that people must abandon their egotism and greed, their violence and unkindness."
- Karen Armstrong, in The Great Transformation: The Beginning of our Religious Traditions
"I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a door mat or a prostitute."
- Rebecca West, "Mr Chesterton in Hysterics: A Study in Prejudice," The Clarion, 14 Nov 1913
"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the "land of the free"."
- from "The American President"
"Another thing to do is to be mindful of spending. This is something I’ve decided I need to do better in the New Year. Dominguez and Robin talk about how you should be mindful of how much money you’ve earned in your lifetime. If you do that it’s pretty sobering. By the way, the Social Security Administration, if you ask them, they’ll tell you. It might take awhile, but you’ll get that information from them. And you’ll see just how much money you’ve squandered in your life. Very interesting."
- Rev. Dr. Arvid Straube
"The one thing I love about Willie Wayne - is I can totally despise him."
- from The Wake of Jamie Foster
"Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo."
- H. G. Wells (1866-1946)
Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
"People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid."
- Soren Aabye Kierkegaard (1813-1855)
"Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws."
- Plato (427-347 B.C.)
"Blessed is the man, who having nothing to say, abstains from giving wordy evidence of the fact."
- George Eliot (1819-1880)
"Black holes are where God divided by zero."
- Steven Wright
"The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good."
- Samuel Johnson (1709-1784)
"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
- Antoine de Saint Exupery
"There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread."
- Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)
"When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you."
- Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
