02:14 pm: I'm going to do it

Yes. Yes. I am going to sell my flute. I got an increasingly positive feeling about yesterday as I polished it. My flute deserves to be in a symphony, in an ensemble, it deserves to come alive when someone breathes into it. My whole family covered their ears when I played ("TOO LOUD!" Only Sophie told me "loud but pretty!") and the cats fled for the hills. My embouchure is crap now with the missing tooth, and I think I need a tooth more than a fancy flute.

I've been watching auctions on ebay. One piece of crap flute nowhere near as nice as mine went for $2900 last night, and this one here
which isn't as nice either has a starting bid of $6500. Mine is younger, more "loaded" with options, hand-crafted in the heyday of the Haynes company, needs a little servicing, a trill cork, a couple new pads, but it plays like heaven in all registers.

I was surprised at all the feelings that came up with the flute as I took it to my dad's for a digital photo session.  The demands, the expectations of people, the anger I had over all of it. I was just a little girl. I named the damn thing Freddy. Selling the flute isn't getting rid of those memories. It is, however, acknowledging, once and for all, that I did not choose that path.  I liked playing in a professional symphony but that wasn't my thing--it just wasn't.

Being broke makes you look at stuff. When I wasn't broke, I didn't think about the value of my flute much or my relationship to it. I dragged it out every few months, played with some guitar boys at a bar mitzvah here and there. Heard "hey nice flute" from people who knew.

Now, watch me not be able to sell it. People buy all kinds of crap on ebay--they BETTER WANT TO BUY MY FREDDIE!

Aw, I hope Freddie goes to someone who will love him. It's amazing, the freedom we find from the things we let go.

Hope you'll buy another, cheaper one when you can, and play for fun! Out in the backyard, of course, away from sensitive ears. :-) Bet there's a nice spot near your tangerine tree.

I just came from playing Hungary Rapsodie Mignonne, Carl Koelling, Op.410. (Badly, I'm sorry to say, but it was still fun).

I 2nd the suggestion to have another flute in your life. It was great watching (well, listening to) my older daughter learn to play the flute - my old student model - last year. And since she's switched to the clarinet, I've had a blast accompanying her.

Haha, I used to love to play my flute to David Bowie albums as much as trying to get all these colors and phrasings just so in some impressionist music.

There are these new fangled things on flutes nowadays like E facilitators where you don't have to have talent to pop out a high E smoothly and I've played some of these new Japanese factory models--SWEET. Yeah, I really think a cheaper flute would suit me just fine one day.

I've been trying to sell off jewelry for a similar reason; unfortunately, I can't manage any good digital sessions. Watch the literary nerd completely flail when it comes to photography. x.x

But that's right, in that... you start thinking about things, and memories start coming back - what you thought of it when you first received it, or other memories. It's an odd sort of feeling, isn't it?

I hope things go well.

I live in nostalgia usually so it's REALLY weird for me to get extra nostalgic. It's like a whole time becomes real again---very very weird.

"Live in nostalgia"?

I think I know the feeling, but I'm just interested in hearing, if you don't mind. (Considering the various OMGIDENTITYWUT things that have been going on, on both your side and mine, you of course don't have to elaborate. ^.^)

I used to play the flute in senior high school. Can't read notes (sighs).

Good luck... May all things go well!

I read treble cleff great but bass cleff lousy---one of the fall outs of being a woodwind only player.

Well if Freddie buys you a tooth, then that would be a wonderful parting gift from him.

I guess it's just as well and pretty healthy to part ways with something that never really belonged to you, in the sense that you didn't want it that much.

Good luck with the auction, my dear. Hopefully it will buy you a tooth and a whole mess of doujinshi.

One should never be free of certain desires! ^_~

I hope you get lots for it. You can designate a minimum bid on it, no?

Yes, you can set a reserve so if it doesn't make a certain bidding you don't have to sell it to the highest bidder.

My first time ever to sell anything on ebay, by the way.

Freddie as in Freddie Mercury? >__>
*edges away from mentions of online auction sites* TradeMe is fun and all, but helping my mum with all of her stuff on it makes you tired of it.
Hope he [the flute] sells well though.

I really enjoy your writing

(Link)
I just finished a story of yours called "Invisible Writing" (I believe) and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it (expect for a certain someone getting 'killed'). That was my 1st Ishida and Orihime story.

I have been reading your blogs and short stories on here for awhile now, Thanks to another friend here that listed you as a good writer. They were correct! *clapping*

I really like the pairings of Ishida and Orihime, and of Gin and Rangiku (although most I have come across of these 2 has had Rangiku in the submissive postion, and I don't see her like that so much, but...).

I hope to found and read more great Bleach Fan Fic like yours!

Thanks, Gissia!
