Santo Rosario

My paternal grandmother got this statue of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary from her family. Each one of the siblings in the family got a religious icon, I think from the Church properties way back then. So we had this statue with our family ever since before I was born. She stayed with us in our old house inside her wooden casing for years. I would admire her face, her paint color and would be very amazed to see her all get up with halo and crowns if she is being used for the fiesta procession come October 7. The church, the cathedral near our old house would borrow her and men would pick her up in the morning for the evening's procession and deliver her back the next morning and my Aunt would prepare breakfast for those who carried her back home. She had a boat shaped caro for the procession and if when the feast day would be on a Sunday I would see her at the church's entrance way back at the start of the main nave during Sunday's mass. I would glance back at her atop the boat shaped caro with a bow shaped front. Most of the year, at our old house, she stayed in my Lola's sister's room who never got married and then at my sister's room and aunt who is also an old maid (who celebrates her birthday on October 20 that is why she is named Rosario). We even took her all the way to the other street when there was a big fire in our street when I was in grade three and maybe did the same when the next house got burned when I was in grade five. When we moved to our new house she came with us and stayed in the family room at the ground floor. The barangay near our old house's street, who celebrates their fiesta in her honor has a small chapel with a small statue on its altar. They put it up on a pillar stand to fill up the encalve for the main altar. Two years ago my family decided to give our statue for the barangay kapilya. As shown in the picture she fits right in, now with a better home, altar and chapel. My dad had someone take a picture so we can have her picture at our home, and even this wallet sized estampitaI I carry in my wallet which I got when I came home last time. She somehow provided, protected and prayed for our household over the years and its good to know that she has now a proper house where other people can pray for her, other people to listen to. October is the month of the Lady of the Holy Rosary and was usaually celebrated on October 7th, now it was formally moved to the first (or was it second Sunday) of the month of October to schedule feastdays on Sunday with Sunday masses. Mama Mary as our Blessed Mother draws many inspiration from us Filipinos, we are devout to her and thus the Holy Rosary is a symbol of our faith of how the power of prayer can do for all of us.

So today on our Wednesday training Patrick found it on the rocks by the beach, near where the boats are towed, so there I found my pair again and so damn I found them right there, so I left it there when I went for a run and damn that was so dumb of me hehehe.

two things thats annoyed me today
- forwarded messages saying 12 days of work on December well in fact it counts 16

- the other one is a forwarded message

and so I read online about 10 things a man should have on his warddrobe, not necessarilu a clincher but brushing through the list without it a amn would be literally naked, nothing special there...

so I tried to check the items, not necesarily of the brand but of what essentially that I have...

1 - ONE WHITE DRESS SHIRT - yeap I do have several, from Zara and one from TYLER, I have long sleeves and short sleeves, crisp white ones all I need is the summer linnen but that's not too dressy

2 - A GOOD WATCH - I have my Tagheuer divers watcha nd I wanted a decent aluminum band one from Baume and Mercier like the Hampton Classic or even teh Cartier Santos or their classic round face one but both are black leather straps... even the Tissot flat round face but I am happy with my POLAR and I wanted a techier POLAR with aluminum locks like Bruce Banner's

3 - A SUIT - got my first suit from G2000 and its OK what I need is a bespoke suit, tailored form Massimo Dutti given my size I need a tailored one with the slim fit and slim sleeves, not maybe an Oswald Boateng or a Hugo Boss, I also need a sports jacket

4 - T SHIRTS - forbid me I have more than I got from plains to tank tops and usually gym shirts but most dependable are my Hanes plain whites but those are technically under shirts, but I guess my Club Monaco and TopMan fits the best...

5 - SWEATER it said have one with a zipper up front and one without so check and check check check, the one I have has the zipper just right up from the neck, its brown and its cashmere, I have lots of sweaters for work, black, green and dark blue (which shrunk in the drier) and I havent worn my white and purple, I like wearing them at work, and I have a baby blue I just don't have the pink and orange ones, last summer Zara had them on 50% off...

6 - SHOES - I have a decent leather pair from Mendrez, just used its twice or thrice maybe...

7 - JEANS as I have said good jeans is a good investmnet, I have pairs that are like 3 to four years old with me, I needa grey one but the blues I do have even the skinny ones, maybe more skinny ones...

8 - POLO SHIRTS is like my staple attire for work, love them from Bosini or H&M

9 - LEATHER JACKET - a blck or a brown and I don't have one, the only one that I do not have in my closet

10 - SHORT yeah I love wearing them and I have fairly good ones, mostly gym shorts and beach shorts.

She wanted to go and eat there. Then Jenny emailed me an invite for iftar dinner at their place in Satwa for her advance birthday party and also to celebrate their anniversary. So it was wild and I wanted to do 20 minute bike ride that afternoon. So what to do really? So I ended up going to the party at Jenny's. And today is yet another day. Then I woke up at 430, decided to go dragon boat training and got on the N2 bus at 440 AM. It was a 45 minute or so bus ride and I SHOULD have gotten off at the Westin stop or I would have not been taken all the way into the Marina over the fly over and past the contsruction sites and took a cab back to the Mina Seyahi, darn. Arrived at the beach 15 minutes before 6 and was able to call my sis and went for a quick warm up jog along the beach. It was a full boat today with Keane coaching and Wai sitting in to paddle. It was a good training, timing and technique practice with 2 minute courses and shorter breaks with a pyramid drill at the end. And then I can't find my pair of flip flops I left at the beach. I don't know maybe somebody mistook it to be theirs. I don't know even if it was my black brazil pairs or my blue and green casuals. Double darn. I also forgot to bring a towel to use on the shower after. Overall it was a good early start exercise. Got into work at 8 AM and it was fun and so worth it waking up early. I am getting so much into this sporta nd I am loving it, next thing to work on is my social skills - MORE. See yah Wednesday - its gonna be my tenth session for over a month's period.

I am never fond of doctumentaries not that they are informative but they are not just my style of movie to watch. But given that its a free screening of what I thought to be another B shark movie, I gave it a shot. It was actually a documentary on the general myhthology of our fear of sharks which spells J_A_W_S (thanks Mr. Spielberg) and how weshould protect them and how they are drastically endangered by human intervention.

First of all, like any other movie we are led to believe that the facts presented in this film are basically true as a ruby sleeper can bring you back home to Kansas. The narrative starts as very simple, hardly intelligent yet smart enough to convince a simple headed moviegoer to believe that sharks prey on the silhouettes of sea lions which is much like of humans with their swimming both so simillar. This could be true if they actually interviewed an actual shark. Its just a case of sympathy not empathy. Brushing that aside the documentary pleads on as informative and not really intelligent.

So the argument starts of with this that sharks are not to be feared, that they are gentle and harmless beings. True and true, but then animals as they are they all act on instinct and are lower than us so its doesn't guarantee in our freedom from the sea creature's perilous saw like teeth, once aggravated intentional or unintentional it would attack you. So might as well say that sharks differ from one shark to the other as danger lurks in every form, shape and size. So fellows; to each his own luck.

So the discussion leads from the nature of this fish to its ecology to sea cucumbers and yes - to soup. The untoward demand of shark's fin soup is centered, to stop fining these sharks. It all screams STOP. But then you must not move to the edge of your seat, become extreme and defy every evil doing man can be capable of. Yes we are mean but this documentary somehow shows us how cruel and greedy we can all get and some causes be it right or good can be so senseless. Its always a two sided story.

How on earth were they able to record all those slaughtering?

Yes the film can be graphic at some point with blood all over, with inhuman ways a lowly creature could die from our hands, all because we are stupid greedy primates endowed and trapped with the economics of our society - politics, money; the whole nine yards.

At any cost, this film shows how some people can fight for a cause, drive a passion and live out of the ordinary lives doing something they just believe in, something most of us ought to do but somehow find ourselve mere spectators, typing along or reading blogs in our office cubicles . We get a peak at how soem can be in such adventure, given their chances to do so, real life heroes fighting off the bad guys and saving the planet.

Nature runs its course, I cacnot condemn Asians sippinga bowls of shark's fin, or if I'd be offered one, its just the law of economics and the culture of violence and greed that we thrive in. Yes its an overly imperfect world but all we want is balance, let nature do its thing, let us all live together, in appropriate measure, living in our natural habitats for either we save our environment or damn it, sure it will survive without us, so its still an egoistic approach for man to assure its existence.

So here is an after thought, issues surmount and actions be done, but all you ahve to do with are choices, to love sharks, abhor the shark finning industry - nope its just tells you that you can be greedy, but do not over do it, we make wrong but make effort to make them right, and find something to fight for, live with a cause and die knowing that you made a difference with your life to this universe and at least to someone .

Anyhow, the documentary is visually breathtaking, amazing and worth to watch, at some point it has its entertainmanet value, from vocal to dramatic to plainly graphic, a so does it ended with that sure shot cutie filmamker swimming in his trunks and it sure has a cool soundtrack that ends in a note - loving our earth, erasing hate and doing what is right is sure fun and cool thing to do. Honestly I love this film and am sure glad I saw this one because its made a mark on my head and made me think of a lot of things that i have been doing - especially on the most afvorite part of the palnet that I love - the oceana and its waters.

So wake up and what think you think - let nature run its course and be part of it.

http://www.sharkwater.com/

dragon boating mondays ...

Another panic monday at the quays.Oh well its like my first Monday morning to do dragon boat training, we try to compare it to Wednesday mornings. I did last time last Saturday. JV wasn't sure last night and Pat texted me to come and eventually JV backed off. Slept at 11PM and woke up at 430AM. Got ready around 5AM trying to take the N2 bus to Media City but ended up taking the cab. The crew was there, we were like the third to arrive and people came just right before 6AM. We even missed to do warm ups. We brought the boat out, it was low tide and it was quite a drag to the water. It was a full boat today, a bunch of newbies and some not so newbies and some regulars Maryan, Simon, Scott, Mike, Julie, Ziyad, Philip, Tarek etc. We paddled off to the water, me and Pat at our usual second from the last back seat. Then we stayed for a while in the middle of the boat and Wai asked me to stir while she coached the new guys. I learned how to stir while they practiced their strokes. Then we paddled off and Wai assuming the stir. We did a couple of 10's and a couple of 20's and then brought the boat in. I paddled on the left side and needed to sit up some more and rotate at 45 degrees. The speed was crazy at times then we tried to easy it on a bit and relax on the strokes. Then we did 1 minute set up positions at A frames. Then we towed the boat up and thats when my heels got caught up in the towing wheels from the back when they sped off running up the beach. Good thing I wasn't enough damage though, though I really thought I'd be ran over, road kill. It was a good training to start a good Monday morning. Cheers yay... hope to keep this going till winter...

At the lift going up to my office, coming early for work last Wednesday from my early morning Dragon Boat training I saw this guy who had the most amazing eyes. He was wearing a business suit complete with a business case bag, he was tall and was facing against the lift door thus a bit facing me while talking to his companion. He looks young, and when i looked up a bit, he had this familiar eyes which was strangely beautiful. It reminded me of a famous someone I find cute I saw on TV or from a movie but the closest I can think of such eyes was Pen Badgley who plays Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl. But still I am not that exactly sure.

So looking at this beautiful man, tall, young and successful got me beliitled in my jeans, trainers and complete with gym bag and Fitness First lunch kit. I thought his suit really gets me to say wow this guy could have really made it well so far. He's got it going on good. But as covers and clothes deploy you, I know its not the suit that makes a man. Its what he does. And I know we might me doing different stuff for work, what I know for sure is that I am good at what I do (sometimes or at least I try). And whatever he does, I guess he's good at it too, maybe not that technical but the business things he could be doing, the corporate stuff and all, prim, formal and savvy and elegant and distinguished complete with business class travels and lounges. So its still a wow and his job comes with a suit and tie and mine comes in trainers and a sports shirt. But then its in the eyes that make you go a fancy above all else.

MONDAY
...off to get something at the drug store for my mouth sore and turns out it was still close so I checked the DVD store and look what I found and then bought...

Transformers The Movie (the 1987 version)
and this...

VISIONARIES, I remember this used to be a cool series :)

and before I really liked movie versions of animated series like the movie of this and that like
both CARE BEARS The Movie, that was like one and two with the Care Bear Cousins, and G.I. Joe The Movie and My Little Pony The Movie and even Rainbow Brite The Movie bwahaha all of which may namamatay or muntik nang mamatay or nabigyan ng new powers even yung He Man She Ra The Movie...

so now I'm like in the animated mode, like trying out the new animated series etc. etc. I used to watch these on Beta Max and when we go out to rent I always ask my dad to rent one cartoon movie for me, like the clasic Looney Toons, Hanna Barbera and Tom and Jerry's, hanggang naubos ko na sila lahat panoorin and sa lahat ng Video shops, tig 5 pesos lang rental nun hahaha... and I was way beyond my cartoon stage, hanggang high school and college, even now!

So maybe I'll look into the new Marvel and DC shows, even the new Transformers and I really wanted to watch TMNJT, it looked really cool... and may coming na new Disney animated feature film, The Princess and The Frog (panget na yung ibang cartoons now like Disney came up with Atlantis, Treasure Planet and even ther CG sucked like Chicken Little and even Pixar stinked with Cars and I didn't even see Robinson's and Wall E.

Too much animated fil so far, reeling of the assembly line last really good one would be Incredibles which was really awesome and maybe Tarzan...

Last one I really liked was Horton Hears A Who and Kung Fu Panda...

didnt know that John Goodman voiced alot of Disney cartoons like Pacha of Emperor's New Groove and Boo or Monster's Inc. and he has lots of job done among other production films like Bee Movie and his upcoming Bounyan and teh Bull and Disney's Princess and the Frog...

Maybe need to get back into my old favorite thing to do - watching animated films and cartoons not really into Japanese Anime...

I really like the Samurai Jack and Power Puff style form CN and the new WB Animation with Batman and Justice League....

So maybe I will start looking into these films again... I used to remember they were so much fun to watch and happy to do... so maybe YAY for that...

What's the best substitute for ES EE EKS if you don't get any or the lack of it? Its like food and cooking. It got me thinking all weekend. Thursday kicked off with us going to have dinner at Johnny Rockets - burger and malt shake with fries and onion rings. Then first was the pinot ala Walker style like the Walkers Landing Winery. I bought two bottles of pinot noir and Michelle made spare ribs sinigang.

Then I need to make basil pesto - have to. buy pine nuts and olive oil.

Then how to make marshmallow icing.

I'm looking for spanish bread filling... milk, margarine an dsugar and flour.

and maybe some soup Vache Qui Rit like a cream cheese soup from French Food at Home...
