James and I finally got a nifty-cool kitchen table set.

We now have a proper "civilized" kitchen. ;-P

Which means: We can has dinner-parties and/or fun after-parties in the near future. Oh yes...

Just need to jazz it up a bit with some decorative accessories.

Now all we need to find is a good-sized, yet cheap, CD tower to hold the ridiculously huge amount of CD's that we own.

And I still need to paint the bedroom dressers as well as the coffee table. All in good time, though - maybe in the next couple weeks or so.

At least I finally got rid of that fugly lighthouse-patterned border that plagued our bedroom. Gah. What a bitch that was to remove, even with all the DIF I used. Dear gods, that damn border was too hideous for words. The exorcism of it was more than justified.

Dear gods, the heat and humidity outside today is BEYOND obscene! Which does not feel good at all, especially now.

My plague has turned into a nasty kind of a summer cold. So now my nose is horribly stuffed up, I'm coughing up unspeakable gobs of lungage, and my head feels like it weighs almost as much as I do. I still have a low grade fever, but thankfully not as high as yesterday. The sick combined with the wall of heat outside made it a bit harder for me to breathe, though. That said, I am so glad (ecstatic, actually) that we have A/C at home. *covers A/C unit with grateful kisses*

I could honestly do without the last half of July as well as the entire month of August. I hate, hate, hate high heat and humidity and I'm pretty ill-suited to it altogether. Not only does it make me into an uber-crankypants, but it makes me physically ill (headaches and nausea). During this time, I tend to hibernate with the A/C, only venturing out at night.

I can has September now, please?

::cranks on A/C, not giving one flying wet fuck as to what the electric bill will look like::

I am a huge fan of Death's character, just the costume is going to be so laughingly basic. I mean, it really only consists of black skinny-leg pants, black tank top, boots, ankh necklace, and her trademark Egyptian Eye eye-makeup. With Siouxsie-teased hair, of course.

However, Death is neither superhero or villian.

Well...she's *my* hero, anyways. ;-)

I dunno, I kinda wanted something a bit more creative, but I'm at a loss for other ideas that would suit me. And quite honestly, I possess neither the time nor the money for anything more "uber", anyhow.

So there you have it. I'm Death.

Yayness factor of the day: I finally got my stimulus check (half has gone to bills), so I can finally get my car's cracked exhaust pipe fixed.
It's one of those days when I *swore* up and down earlier in the week that I would get things done around the house. Particularly, to remove that godawful border in our bedroom. Maybe paint the coffee table. However, motivation to do this simply was not to manifest. Not today.

I ended up waking up at 11:30am to Kai meowing a persistant seranade outside our bedroom door. I hauled myself out of bed to give him and Naga their stinky cat-slop breakfast and decided that as long as I was up, I'd make coffee.

From there, I lounged in bed until 3:30pm, drinking fresh-ground coffee, and re-reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon while my sweet James still dozed beside me.

Unfortunately, I remembered that today was the day that I had to go to the laundromat to do our wash (boo!) and dragged myself out my restful sanctuary to shower.

But all's well that ends well. Wash is done, my workout is done, and there is a nice pork roast in the oven for James and I to enjoy with a nice bit of shiraz to go with it.

I need more (mostly) lazy days like this, I think. Especially ones that last a bit longer.

Oh yeah, and NO MORE DAMNED RAIN!
I was listening to NPR's "Science Fridays" this afternoon (I am a shameless science geek and love this program).

This particular segment was about smells and how humans, insects, and animals react to certain smells. With a few nods towards how certain smells correlate with behavior and memory.

Interesting stuff, really.

So as I'm driving to Market Basket, somehow, the converstion takes a turn to farts. Mr. Science Friday Guest regales us all with this bit of information, based upon the results of scientific research:

Women's farts smell worse than the farts generated by men.

That's right. Someone in the scientific community decided to conduct a study to determine the level pungence of in farts as it relates to gender.

Ewww...

Yeah, they probably had to seriously bribe some interns to do *that* kind of lab work.

The Cure show last night was nothing short of completely amazing. We had awesome seats in the 8th row. I danced my feet sore for the entirety of the 3 hour (with 3 encores) show. The boots I wore were evidently not meant for standing and dancing that long, because they nearly crippled the fuck out of my feet (hey, they looked good!). My voice is quite raw today - no surprises as I was singing along to nearly every song at the top of my lungs.

Robert Smith, no matter what anyone says, has still got "it". All you need to hear is the impossibly long, drawn-out "raaaaaaaiiiiiinnnnn" wail that he still manages to do live in "Prayers for Rain" to know that he ain't no slack. Dear gods, that voice. The whole band was full of energy last night. I only wish that "Faith" had been played as it's always stirring to hear played live or "Cold". But I can't complain.

Our man Smith was in a silly mood that night dancing around and making crazy faces. He truly seemed to be enjoying himself and playing up the crowd. The audience was loving him right back. He seemed both pleased and genuinely surprised/abashed at the crowd's enthusiastic response. As much as he has claimed in the past (how many dozens of times?) that he's going to give it up, I don't see it happening anytime soon. He really seemed to be having fun, so maybe...well, only time will tell.

James & I are convinced that Simon Gallup is a vampire. Because that man.does.not.age. At all. He still looks the epitome of the lean, rangy rock star. He was all over the stage and seemed virtually tireless. One of the most underappreciated bass players out there.

It was odd seeing Porl Thompson with a shaved head, shiny black pants, and fishnet shirt. But somehow, on him, it worked. Not to mention, he is still an amazing guitarist.

And damn, the stage visuals were awesome.Per usual.

It was awesome to see Gwyn and William again. James & I had missed them both horribly. We need to take a drive to their neck of the woods so that we can visit with them properly.

Fun dinner with Jen and Jorge too. The Sunset Cantina is a fun place for drinkies and din-dins.

Came home exhausted and happy. As well as very sweaty- damn arena got really hot after a while. I couldn't wait to get that waist cincher off of me because I had sweaty swamp-skin underneath it. Eww...

All in all, a great night.

And now, off to making dinner.

I want to learn to do it well and the books don't seem to help me much in that regard. Not to mention, most makeup technique books don't seem to instruct much in the way of alternative, dark glam looks.

One would *think* that I since I've been wearing makeup since age 14, I would have picked up a thing or two. If I knew my stylist was going to cut the back like that, I would have stopped her from chopping it in that manner. The back of my neck is far too exposed for my tastes.

This rather irritates me. My stylist is fantastic and usually cuts my hair just the way I like it, but now I must wait a couple months before the back grows out enough for my liking. And I don't like this much at all. :-(

At least I can't complain about the color. ::shrugs::

AND The Cure show is Monday. ::perks up a little::

Will just need to be tight with the $$ because this move really drained us.

Wow. That was one helluva move. I love our place, but I hope I never have to endure a move like that again - with barely a week to prepare, the stress was near-crushing. We are still unpacking, but have quite a bit set up. I want to paint the bedroom in the next 2 weeks. Found a swatch at Home Depot with the perfect shade of pale, pearl grey that would work well with our current black & wine red bedroom color scheme. Nice and stylish, yet neutral enough to keep the landlord happy.

Many, MANY appreciative thanks to cephalopod_love for being such a huge help to us during last weekend's crazy-arse move! We can't thank you enough, doll! <3

James and I love Arlington Center. While we will always have a very soft spot for Somerville, we can't complain. The privacy we're enjoying is pure bliss. The apartment is more spacious than we had hoped to find. The living room is so big, we don't know what to do! :-)

Can't wait until all is set up and we can have some friends visit. We gots a yard, so James wants a grill. Hey industrialsteve, we'll need to score some of those barbecue sauce recipes of yours! Barbecue recipes in general would be most welcome, too! ;-)

And The Cure is playing Monday! Whee! Methinks James & I will pregame at the Sunset Cantina across the street from Agganis Arena before the show. If anyone is going to the show, we'll be at the Cantina at around 5:30 - 6ish for a bite and boozeage - come join us!

Time to wash out the hair dye goop. He's had to do a few moves with less than 2 weeks notice himself.

This will definitely help make this move a bit more manageable.

And I have plenty of vacation time that I can use. It's not his fault - after all, this move is kind of short of notice for him (and us,too). He's going to try to help us move our big stuff to the new place, but it looks like James & I will end up doing many, many trips back and forth to get the rest of our stuff.

Crap, that will *not* be fun. :-(

James and I just snagged a sweet 1 bedroom apartment in Arligton Center. Woo!

I got a call Thursday at work from Cherry at Apartment Rental Experts. She said, "I don't know if you're also open to Arlington, but I just got a listing for a one bedroom in Arlington Center for $850 a month". I was gobsmacke, although a bit skeptical at the same time. First, I wanted to make sure that it was legit 1 bdrm and not a studio being advertised as one as I ran into quite a few of those during my search. Once confirmed, I suggested checking it out as soon as I got out of work.

I'm so glad I did. It's the ground floor of a 3 unit house on a quiet side-street just around the corner from Mass Ave in Arlington Center. The livingroom is *huge*, there is a small yard (barbecue!), a kitchen, a bedroom with a nice-sized closet, and an alcove. On top of all that, I have my own off-street parking spot (bonus), all new windows, and lots of shelves with some decent closet space. Plus, we get to have our kitties there (landlord has 2 cats himself and loves them).

The kitchen floor is 70's-style ugly in a way that conjures images of hanging macrame owls, but I don't care. It's a decent-sized kitchen and everything is in good shape, which is really all that matters.

No utilities included, but for that kind of deal, we can compromise a bit and budget ithat in well enough.

The landlord is a really sweet old man who reminds me of my Pepere Valliere (my favorite grandfather), with a similar sense of humor. We talked to him a bit when we met him yesterday and he's really a hot ticket. We hit it off very well and he seemed to like us immediately, telling the agent ,"Yes, I have a good feeling about these two." So we signed the paperwork, he gave us the keys, and we talked a bit more about cats before we left.

Here's the clincher - the landlord wants a May 1st start date. He was pretty adamant about that. So that means we move next week! YIKES!!! James thinks we can do it, as some of our stuff is still boxed up. The game plan is that we'll start moving smaller things in on Thursday, May 1st, and then try to get the big stuff in on Saturday the 3rd -we hope!

This will be the craziest move ever. But we'd be stupid not to snag a place like this when we can - especially for that price. You really can't get a better deal than that! It's not Somerville, but it's damed good enough. James and I are in love with it! Oooh, and I can try making a small garden for cooking herbs. Maybe try my hand at growing a moon garden, too! The possibilities...

Ah, no more Weymouth! :-)

All of you looking for apartments out there, call Cherry at Apartment Rental Experts at 617-684-8000. She is fantastic and will really go out of her way for you. Not to mention, she's super-duper nice! :-)

And oh, yeah...

I GOT MY CAR BACK!

So who's going to Heroes tonight? ;-)

I am beyond exhausted. I drank coffee and energy drinks all day and I still was barely able to function at work.

The weekend was a blur. So much fun. But,oh, I'm soooo tired. I wonder at those who can keep up such a pace on a regular basis.

I decided to celebrate my birthday over the weekend since the 19th ended up being on a Wednesday. Talk about social function exhaustion! But it was all great fun. Xmortis on Friday was packed and Monsieur Ewen spun a great set - I really need to go hear him spin some world music, sometime. I didn't get to chat nearly as much with everyone as I would have liked to. Thanks for the birthday Mind Erasers, guys!

Shindig at the IHBF on Saturday. It was a blast, per usual, with good food, candy, drinks, and inflatable animals. Listened and danced to some great music that was spun during the course of the evening. Got an unexpected birthday prezzy (thank you cephalopod_love and ariakas69, you really shouldn't have ! :-)). Had some silly conversations with people as well as spent a lot of time talking about music. Enjoyed hearing some funny stories. I had no absolutely no concept of time during entire evening and didn't care. Stayed up until the sun began to make an appearance (evil sun! bah!).

Slept for a few hours and went home at 1:00 pm Sunday, peering bleary-eyed at the people on their way to their Easter destinations as I drove. I was thankful that I remembered to bring my sunglasses. Took a quick shower to dispel after party stinkies and zoomed off to Dax's for dinner which was absolutely delicious! A lot of fun, too. Finally got to see his new kitten (KITTTTTTYYYYY!!! *g* Colleen, she's even cuter than the pics!) The kitten (Evie) is an absolute love. She's very dainty and lovely with gorgeous, expressive eyes. Enjoyed hearing some foodie history and listened to more wonderful music. Had to leave a bit earlier than I wanted to because I was flagging pretty fast. I was lucky to have James with me to keep me alert by talking to me - I was so tired that it was hard to focus on my driving. Collapsed to bed as soon as we got home.

And you know what? I think I actually *like* being 40. A relief, I'm sure, to many of my friends who are sick of hearing me piss and moan about it. I suppose I just needed some time to warm up to it a bit! ;-)

Yep, I think this will be a very good year, indeed.
