Odd things heard at school I heard all of these things on Wednesday within a few hours of each other. "Tacos can't breed because they don't actually produce sperm." "I married a porcupine!" "A cannibal scene would have really improved that play." Current Mood: amused | | Monday, October 29th, 2007 | | 9:56 pm |

Life is good Six reasons that Life is Good. 1. My step-brother has been sober and held steady employment for over a year. We are also trying to maintain a relationship. Not out of the woods. Fingers crossed. 2. I got to spend Sunday with two of my favorite non-spousal people. 3. I am going to see a friend this Friday I have not seen in a long time. 4. Randomly running into people I know at coffee shops. 5. There will be sharks all week long on my television set. 6. I am married to a wonderful woman. There are many more reasons that Life is Good. All the things that pop into my head from time to time that say that Life is not-good are stupid and wrong. Current Mood: thankful | | Sunday, July 8th, 2007 | | 10:15 am |
Two trips to Safeway Before I impart an amusing incident that occurred to me a few weeks ago I must tell you all this important and piece of information: pusifoot is not pregnant. This actually is vital for following this story without distraction. My story begins on a lovely Saturday afternoon. pusifoot asks me to run to the store to pick up some groceries and some alcohol. I go to our local Safeway where they are having quite a nice sale on many types of alcohol. I pick up the bottles that had been requested and I pick up some other favorites on sale. By the time I am done shopping I have six bottles of various types of hard liquor, a six-pack of beer, a six-pack of hard apple crisp cider and a bottle of margarita mix. They checkout lady is very friendly and mentions that if I bought just one more bottle of alcohol I could get even more of a discount. I decline. Break to Sunday morning. I had previously agreed to drive a friend to the airport. Here is where the pregnancy information becomes important. pusifoot had been having some interesting symptoms that had made up think she might have been pregnant. We needed to be sure, so we agreed to buy a pregnancy test to check it out. Sunday morning at about 7am, I am driving back home from the airport and decide this would be an excellent opportunity to grad the test. I stop at the same Safeway. I pick up a test and take it through the checkout. This is my only purchase. After walking up to the checkout I realize that this is the Exact Same Checkout Lady. I push the little test up to the scanner. She looks down at the test. She looks up at me and she realizes that I had just been there the night before. She says nothing but “hello.” I, however, could not help but notice a particular amused gleam in her eye that seemed to say, “wow, that was some party you had last night.” I paid for my pregnancy test and slipped out the door. Last week of school is always crazy.
Tuesday was Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk day for the entire upper school. Today was 6th and 7th grade award ceremony. Tomorrow is the yearbook signing party. Friday is graduation and dance. I am signed up for the dance and am not looking forward to it. The first year was kind of interesting as I got to see my students in a social situation that was not in the classroom. Now it is the most painful three hours ever.
After Friday it is all over for the summer. Now, if I could just find a summer job everything would be great. | | Friday, June 8th, 2007 | | 11:51 am |
update I have been recently chastised for not posting to my journal enough. For example, the following conversation at Baycon a few weeks ago would probably not have occurred had I posted more often.
(The following conversation has been paraphrased for dramatic and comedic affect.)
Me: (to a friend I had not seen in a while) Hi! I have not seen you in a while. How have you been?
Friend I had not seen in a while: I have been okay. (Personal information left out due to privacy reasons). So, what have you been up to?
Me: Not a lot. School is down to its last month. I am looking for a job for the summer. I went up to Sonoma for my wedding anniversary.
Friend I had not seen in a while: What?! (annoyed look) You got married?!
Me: (sheepish) Um...yeah...uh...a year ago.
Friend I had not seen in a while: Why was this not posted in your journal?
Me: (more sheepish) Uh...it wasn't?
Friend I had not seen in a while: No!
Me: (even more sheepish) Well, Tifaine posted it in hers. It seemed silly to also mention it in mine.
Friend I had not seen in a while: But I don't read her journal, I read yours.
So, promises were made to post more often and mention things like marriage and such. | | Friday, January 12th, 2007 | | 3:19 pm |
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! The sweetest thing happened to me today. I feel compelled to share this incident. My sixth grade class came into my room singing happy birthday and they gave me a card that they had all signed. I was charmed from my head to the tip of my toes. I often get cards and gifts from students during general holidays. This is the first time they had given something just to me. Kids can be so sweet sometimes. lunch, anyone? Since it is the begining of Winter I now have the next two weeks off from my work. The joy of being a teacher. Although it appears that I will have a few tutoring appointments, I will have my afternoons free. This is a great time to see folks and be social. So, if anyone is interested in lunch with me, please give me a ring. It would probably have to be somewhere fairly inexpensive, however. The downfall of being a teacher. | | 3:00 pm |
Blessed Solstice Please have a warm and blessed Winter Solstice with your family and friends. | | Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 | | 4:43 pm |
I have information that I feel obligated to share.
If you are sitting on the toilet, in an attempt to lure kittens into the bathroom in order to more easily get them into a kitty carrier to take them to the vet, you must drop your pants.
I hope this information will prove useful to you. | | Tuesday, September 19th, 2006 | | 4:07 pm |
More school strangeness So this year is starting out to be a bit on the surreal side.
One of my former students came by the school for community service yesterday. During lunch he sat in my classroom chatting. We were discussing what we had done over the summer. During this conversation the former student looks at me and asks, "so how is the life of bondage?" I stop and look at him blankly for a few moments. Many thoughts are going through my head at this moment.
How did you find out? Who have you been talking to? Are you saying what I think you are saying? What the fuck!?! I don't want to be having this conversation with a ninth grader!
Fortunately, my mind focused enough to comprehend that the bondage my former student was referring to was my recent marriage. "Its going great," I finally manage to reply.
I will always wonder if he caught my strangled hesitation. Maybe he would understand. We do seem to have a kinky student body. A few years ago, one class begged me to tie them up. But that is a story for another time. | | Monday, September 18th, 2006 | | 7:47 pm |
Are you thinking what i'm thinking? So a conversation occurred with one of my 7th grade students that week. I am not sure if I should be concerned or pleased by what came out of my student's mouth.
Student: I really plan to use all of the lessons you have taught me in history class. Me: oh, that's great, how? Student: In my plans to take over the world.
Yes, yes, you are all correct. I am pleased, very pleased. | | Sunday, August 6th, 2006 | | 10:56 am |
What Mythological Creature Are you? | You Are a Centaur | In general, you are a very cautious and reserved person. However, you are also warm hearted, and you enjoy helping others in practical ways. You are a great teacher, and you are really good at helping people get their lives in order. You are very intuitive, and you go with your gut. You make good decisions easily. | | | Saturday, July 29th, 2006 | | 9:32 am |
Brit Journalism School - I wish In the same article that I just mentioned British Prime Minister Tony Blair is asked this question about rebuilding Lebanon by a BBC reporter, "You spoke of having a plan to rebuild houses in Lebanon. Wouldn't the people of Lebanon rather know when you're going to tell the Israelis to stop destroying houses?"
This is the lind of hard-hitting, straight to the point question that I would like to see American journalists asking. Can we send all of our journalists to Britain to learn how to ask questions? | | 9:14 am |

I just finished watching Hotel Rwanda for the first time. It was well put together and acted. I recommend it to all. However, I do warn you, movies about genocide are not going to put you in a good mood. But I have the perfect remedy. I am going to go and play with KITTENS!!!!! They make everying better. | | Wednesday, June 28th, 2006 | | 9:13 am |
Not what I would have figured... Captain America You scored 18 Power, 62 Intelligence, and 58 Teamwork! | | aka: Nomad, The Captain
Strength, agility, speed, endurance, and reaction time are all boosted by the super soldier serum you took during World War II making you the perfect human specimen. You are a master at hand-to-hand combat, and your only weapon, an indestructible round shield, is like an extension of your body. You're an expert strategist and tactician. After being on ice since World War II, you were thawed out in Avengers #4 and have been an Avenger ever since, mostly as their leader. You may not be as strong as Thor, as smart as Iron Man, or as fast as Quicksilver, but your natural leadership abilities coupled with your perservering spirit make you the one Avenger that the team can not do without. Your female counter-part is Mockingbird, and you are least like the Hulk.
Hank Pym is more powerful.
Hawkeye is less intelligent.
Black Panther is less teamwork oriented.
| | My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 2% on Power | | You scored higher than 45% on Intelligence | | You scored higher than 28% on Teamwork | | You scored higher than 0% on Gender |
