As of 2009 this journal is predominantly locked.

I swear a lot, and have a tendency to fangirl things til kingdom come, but I'm fairly easy to get along with. Drop me a comment every once and awhile and I will surely return the favour; I do read every entry, even if I don't always comment.

I don't bite. I promise. ♥

I made blossom tea. Prettiness is invalidated x10 by weirdness of having rogue floating plantlife in your beverage. Call me old-fashioned and sentimental but I prefer my tea safely encased in a bag.

A meme from forever ago, tagged by my current favourite Norwegian [info]nikoline and the rules are thus:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
from The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf )

Life in general:
  • My heart hurts. That shit is not made up.
  • I am buying a new iPod next week, it will be my third iPod of 2008 (shocking). Apple are fucking me around by refusing to engrave "non-standard" (but still Unicode, read: accented) characters, so I can either order from Europe where they don't have a problem with that shit and pay like $150 more (holler Euro!) plus shipping or I can void my warranty by getting it engraved at the mall instead. Whatever, Apple.
  • Why is every store in the world acting like it's Christmas already? The department stores here put their Christmas shit out in September, which is so wrong. It's too early for me to care about Christmas. Actually it's always too early for me to care about Christmas as I just generally don't, but I cannot even pretend to get into the spirit of it until at least mid December. Also my parents just replaced the artificial tree we've had since I was a baby and the new one smells totally wrong (ie, not at all like two-decade old perished plastic).
  • Last Friday night I walked home in torrential downpour wearing a fairy dress and wings. This is because en route home from a costume party I decided I needed to rent a Robert Downey Jnr movie, badly, right now. I am also still trying to get all the glitter out of my hair. I would ask for advice but I don't think I have any resident drag queens on the flist.

hey mister, she's my sister.

This is so the kind of week where I have to tape ridiculous motivational messages to my mirror to cheer myself up. I slept til 4.30 on Friday afternoon and not at all since. I'm not delirious yet, but I feel like I'm running in slow motion. I've been painkiller free for 49 hours and I'm feeling it.

Thursday we had real spring weather, and my best friend and I drove to IKEA with the windows down listening to Uffie and MGMT and flirting with carloads of teenage boys. It was a pretty good distraction; I'm a big believer that happiness can be flat-packed in the form of Scandinavian homewares.

Other stuff, conveniently bulleted:
  • I've been watching a lot of films recently- specifically the Kubrick Lolita (twice in one week) and a lot of Ingmar Bergman stuff for class. One day I hope to hook up with a film student or something so that all this Bergman has an actual purpose, because I'm not even going to front and say I actually get anything he does.
  • I am almost finished Slaughterhouse-Five and it is beautiful and amazing and I am pretty sure I want Billy Pilgrim's epitaph tattooed on me somewhere. Next on my list is Kerouac and then I hope to be back to Nabokov by the summer so I can fill in some gaps in my collection. And maybe get my copy of Lolita back one day? You know who you are.
  • I just downloaded the season two premiere of Pushing Daisies and I am so irrationally excited to watch it; I love this show and its entire cast but especially Kristin Chenoweth because she is so adorable it hurts. I'm also slowly catching up on House. I've missed you, Hugh Laurie.
  • Northern XXXPosure: Larry Flynt is producing Sarah Palin look-alike porn. This should probably infuriate me or something because it speaks volumes about the misogynistic subjugation of women in the public eye (I am all about equal opportunity, where is my Obama porn?), and I'm sure by tomorrow morning it will. But for now, drill baby drill.
  • Jenny Lewis - The Next Messiah & She & Him - Take It Back. I love Jenny and Zooey so much.

It was actually nice out today, which I disovered at 5pm when I opened my bedroom curtains for the first time. I am sick in bed and of course the one pleasant day we get for ages would be the one day I didn't leave the house. I'm aware it's only been September for four days, but this winter feels like it's dragging on and on, ugh.

My ugly view, an ugly yellow house. But the sky is blue!

Teenz & I veer toward the melodramatic. But I am seriously annoyed about my Strokes CD.

Anyway, here is:
A brief discussion of GOSSIP GIRL GOSSIP GIRL GOSSIP GIRL and by proxy my irrational love of Chace Crawford )

Also, I was tagged by [info]jaleco for the interview meme awhile ago and didn't get around to posting my answers. And so it goes; you comment, I ask you five questions, you post the questions & their answers in your eljay and offer to interview anyone else who will bite, and the cycle repeats ad infinitum.
So my girl Krystal asked... )

So this was ridiculously long. As a final note I'd like to throw in that I only just recently noticed this whole ads-on-basic-account-journals-when-viewed-by-non-members thing that LJ is pulling and it makes me sad because ads make my layout look skewed and horrible. No love for LJ sponsorship!

hey mister, she's my sister.
Today I watched about nine consecutive hours of Disney films at my friend Emma's house. This was great because she has a massive collection, and I have mad love for these films which none of my other friends will even humour (they are all too serious business).
The viewing schedule comprised:

(my picks were Snow White, Cinderella and The Jungle Book. I am firmly of the old school.)
And of course I rep for my crew:

(I sleep in this, mostly.)

Despite the fact that I don't relate to the princess films as much as every other girl apparently does (I blame this on the definite dearth of women with an incurable weakness for gruff, older, smug intellectual men in the Disney heroine canon) they're still enjoyable. The Jungle Book will forever be my favourite though, and I Wan'na Be Like You has been my jam since I was like three.

I also enjoy the weird, grudging respect that people of my age group have for the later (post '89) movies. The same was true when I watched The Lion King with Sam and his friends at college earlier this year. You can spend the entire first half of the film making fun of the implied incest and the implausibility of the stampede scenario, but when Mufasa falls off that cliff, you shut the fuck up, just like you shut the fuck up when Bambi's mother gets shot. It is law.

Anyway, because I'm curious, flist: what is your favourite Disney animated feature of all-time?

I'd just like to say that unrequited... whatever... fucking sucks. I need a brain readjustment. But I do have yoga tomorrow! A spine readjustment may have to suffice.

Anyway, I haven't done this in awhile, so why the fuck not. These aren't even remotely hard and a couple bands are severely overepresented, but I am iTunesless and this is therefore based on my mp3 shuffle. And the rules, as always, are thus: pick the song title and if you can the artist, don't Google it because that's lame. Go wild.

I have had a headache officially every day for three weeks and have totally lost any capability for rational thought or basic functionality, really.

What is everyone's favourite headache remedy? I will try anything at this point, from the ridiculous old wive's tales to alternative natural therapies to fun drug combinations, anything which isn't going to require me to get another prescription.

Please and thankyou.

"We knew what it felt like to see a boy with his shirt off, and why it made Lux write the name Kevin in purple Magic Marker all over her three-ring binder and even on her bras and panties, and we understood her rage coming home one day to find that Mrs. Lisbon had soaked her things in Clorox, bleaching all the "Kevins" out. We felt the imprisonment of being a girl, the way it made your mind active and dreamy, and how you ended up knowing which colours went together. We knew the girls were our twins, that we all existed in space like animals with identical skins, and that they knew everything about us though we couldn't fathom them at all. We knew, finally, that the girls were really women in disguise, that they understood love and even death, and that our job was merely to create the noise that seemed to fascinate them."

My scanner does horrible things to my drawings.

I am so ridiculously listless and restless and unmotivated; I don't remember the last time I felt this despondent.

Last night I went to IKEA with my Swedish lecturer and a few girls from my class, mainly for fun and to investigate furniture names but also to discuss Ingvar Kamprad's ideology. We spoke Swedish almost the whole time, which was exhuasting but very cool. Next weekend the University of Melbourne Scandinavian, Greek, French and German clubs are combining to host a party for Eurovision, which is pretty much the television highlight of my year. I hate that I feel so at home at this University which I only attend two days a week and which counts less than a quarter towards my degree, but so ridiculously alienated at my so-called "full time" campus. I think I need to seriously consider a transfer.

Daft Punk, a Christmas present for my brother (click full-size)

So I'm a bit shit at Livejournal recently and I don't really have an excuse for that. RECENT HIGHLIGHTS since my last update include finishing high school and exams &c. Fucking finally. I got my results back earlier this week- they're passable, nothing to write home about, but enough to tidily get me into a variety of university courses which vaguely interest me and which I am trying and failing to choose between.

I've also been to a few shows- Klaxons in October (should have been the best night of my life, but I don't really remember much of it, other than Jamie Reynolds being a really upstanding guy), Tegan & Sara and Art Brut. Have tickets to see CSS, Air and the Pumpkins early in the new year and my brother is currently trying to negotiate AAA passes with his fabled magickal ~industry connections~. I'll laugh if he pulls it off.

What did everybody wish for for Christmas? I hope your holiday season is a happy one. Stay safe.

I saw Patrick Wolf live on Sunday night, he was very very beautiful and lovely and his voice was amazing and it was everything I had hoped for. Pretty sure I spotted a couple LJers there- who went? Who's going again in September?

I now have three concerts left, the Bloc Party/Klaxons/Horrors trifecta on August 3/7/8. There was originally some Long Blondes in there too but I traded it for the Horrors due to financial/chaperoning issues (the HiFi Bar being, as it is, a festering cess pool of rape and murder?!) and the Horrors just being generally better. I grow progressively more excited about Klaxons every day. Yesterday I finally bought Myths Of The Near Future and it cost $17 and came WITH FREE KLAXONS GUITAR PICKS. I don't know why. But there's nothing better than free stuff with CDs.

Conversely, I grow less excited about Bloc Party every minute.

I also went to a very excellent party recently. My friend, for her eighteenth, hired a charter bus to take fifty of her nearest & dearest into the city for a three hour cruise of Docklands. There was a $1000 tab at the bar and being one of the few people with actual ID, it was obviously my duty to drink as much as possible. Think of it as alcohol socialism, or something. We outdrank said tab in two hours. Good times were had.

Otherwise I'm listening to a LOT of CSS, trying to quit smoking, and going to Adelaide next week. These are some pretty rubbishy holidays.

At the surprise party my friends threw for my eighteenth, it got sloshed with Smirnoff Double Black and obstinately refused to turn on. I left it out to air but now all it does is make tiny coughing noises, like it's trying to talk to me. It's the saddest thing ever.

I'm a hoarder of the worst variety and I own a lot of stuff, but very little of it has any real worth to me, besides just being aesthetically pleasing. Just my camera and my iPod. I don't even use my camera much recently, but it's my baby. It's the most valuable thing I own, monetarily and creatively, and I don't really know what to do without it.

Also it had some photos on it I didn't want to lose.

I'm hoping my birthday money will be enough to fix it.

RIP camera!

My Livejournal turned four, recently, too, just on a sidenote.

I am still alive. I'm sorry for being such a shitty LJ friend lately, I just don't have the mental energy reserves to juggle the online/offline thing these days. I'm probably around MySpace more than LJ which I don't love, but that's tricks. School is.. happening. I've been cleared to leave at the end of the term and pick up correspondence for the remainder of the year, so there's decisions to be made.

Ane made me draw her something because she's trying to make me take up art again, so I drew Lenin. I'm actually pretty much failing history at the moment, but there you are.

Pete Doherty's all over the channel 10 news because an Australian backpacker in Phuket filmed him shooting up.
And somehow this is news to people? The only newspaper I read today attempted to turn it into another "poor Kate Moss!" story, claiming that she was "shocked and disappointed" but in the same sentence repeatedly referring to him as her "junkie boyfriend".

A heroin addict uses heroin and that's news.
LOL Australian media.

I won't lie, though. Despite my firm TEAM BARÂT status, I do get a bit of a kick seeing Peter on the television.
