| Soooooooooo tired......
Good weekend though. Me and Kristianne went to this blues thing on Saturday and she got to sing. I bought a harmonica just to see if I can learn a few tunes on it ;)
Things have been really hectic lately with the buying of a new house. Fingers crossed, all will go well, we're just waiting for a roofing report now from the roofer (surprisingly). He's really taking his time about sending it out.
Too much has happened since I last posted so I'll just include an update of a couple more things:
Books: I've been reading "A People's World, Real Alternatives To Economic Globalisation" by John Madely and also "Downsize This" by Micheal Moore. Both books are a good read. The first I'm reading purely for information, the second is also really informative, but light hearted. I like Micheal Moore's sence of humor and style of writing. I find his stuff is a good place to start if you want to learn about the topics he writes about. I think this because he writes about them in a very entertaining and easy to read way. I'd recommend using his material to find out if you're interesting in the things he talks about, then go off and look at these things in more depth. John Madely's book is a good example of this.
Geeky Stuff: I've upgraded my main system from Mandrake Linux 9.2, to PCLos (PC Linux OS - catchy name huh!, not). It's based on Mandrake 9.2 but it uses apt instead of urpmi for package management/ installation. The idea is to create a Linux distro that you'll never need to replace (as you can upgrade the whole OS via apt). I'm running it fully updated with KDE 3.2.whatever :P I love KDE 3.2 so far - can't wait for the next release - it's just getting better and better! The great thing is that PCLos comes with java, shockwave, realplayer etc all installed and configured, so there's no pissing around with that anymore (yey \o/). I recommend giving it a go - it's a live-cd with an install-to-disk option (so you don't have to install it to try it! - the CD won;t have KDE 3.2 and other bits though).
Other Stuff: Holidays soon!!!! yey \o/. We (minus Stu) are all off to Scotland for a week. More details to follow I hope. Road-trip-a-mongous!
Appologies for spelling - can't be arsed to spell check! | comments: Leave a comment |
| Jinkies!
House hunting's really starting to do my nut in. I'm enjoying it, it just seams that every house we want to live in is under offer or has been sold! We've seen some lovely stone houses online that we're manically trying to book appointments to view ;o) It's hard to do though since we can only really look at weekends - doh! Hopefully we'll get it sorted in a couple of weeks.
Stu is off to the US tomorrow to meet Jess, so no doubt he's fit to burst ;o) A big happy birthday for him whilst he's over there though - we'll have a drink for you :o) (and then with you upon your return). We might even have a house by then - w00t!
Thought Of The Day: Isn't it strange how, in order to refrigerate something, it doesn't have to be frigerated first? | comments: Leave a comment |

| Gee's, it's been ages since I've posted to here. I'm so lazy - yey \o/!!
Actually, I've been pretty busy recently. Definately at work and more so than usual at home. That's 'cos Kristianne's here now so I've got something to do in the evenings.... maybe I shoulda worded that better... - nah, nevermind :oP
We're house/ flat hunting at the moment, which reminds me, how expensive are houses! You have to sign your life over to a bank to get enough money to buy a house in Manchester. I'm thinking of putting one of those PayPal links in my Blog - Click here to donate! ;o)
I am attempting to start doing a bit more in the evenings though. I'm trying to start a small business (kinda). My dad's company have made splashbacks for people before but it's not their main line of business, and it's not advertised. I thought it might be a good idea to pop a website up for it and see what happens. I've registered the domain and I'm waiting to put info on like prices/ pictures and stuff. So, if I get around to it, keep an eye on The Splashback Company 'cos it could be quite cool.
Check out: Sneak - get the "Feel Like I Do" mp3 - that song rules!!!!

| Helloooo world!
I've been lazy with the 'ol Journal updates recently but Christmas and New Year were pretty busy, and since then I've just forgot! :P
Christmas was great. We had a Norwegian Christmas meal and small presents giving on Christmas eve (my Sister's husband is Norwegian and that's how they do it over there) and then we had English Christmas Dinner and stuff on Christmas day - cool! It felt very festive at home this year - I really enjoyed it.
After Christmas I came back up to the flat. It was a cool week of mucho Bo Selecta! watching ;) Me and Jase had some trips down to the magic balloon shop too to prepare for the New Years eve party! The party was hella cool, I think heeuge wrote a bit about what went on at the do. Basically, a lot of people got drunk and had a laugh!
Since then I've just been back to work really. My New Years resolution is to eat proper food (rather than cereal and beans on toast all the time :oP) and to get more sleep ('cos I'm knackered most of the time!), although I'm finding that the eating proper food has boosted my energy levels so much that the sleep thing isn’t bothering me like it used to - and that's only after a week! - cool!
In other news Kristianne is still waiting on a VISA. She has a flight reserved for the end of Jan so hopefully she'll get the VISA and get her ass over here ;)
I'm reading another book now (can't remember if I said or not) called Brave New World by Aldous Huxley - I think I mentioned it. I'm about half way through at the moment. It's getting a lot more interesting the more I read - it did start a bit slowly though.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Chris. | comments: Leave a comment |

| I'm really not used to this whole getting up early thing. Still, today's the last day of earliness because tomorrow it's back to normal start time at work.... for half a day and then that's it for Christmas! Our Christmas do is on at lunch time tomorrow and will then continue until....... So, after that I plan to sleep as much as possible. The slight problem with this is that it's coming close to Christmas now and so many things are a-happenin'. On Friday I might be going to a gig at the Star and Garter although I dunno yet. Then, on Saturday, everyone's up for a night out in Manchester followed by a pre-Christmas meal out on the Sunday. After that I'm off back home on the Monday because my sis is coming over from Norway for Christmas - yey \o/. I was thinking of planning to take over the world in the next few days but I reckon that might have to go on the back burner.
In other, more geeky news, I've been trying out a copy of PCLinux OS (Preview 4). One of the guys (Texstar) who builds a lot of the RPM's for Mandrake has decided to pile together a distro based on Mandrake 9.2. It's based on the Live cd "Mandrake Move" ("live" meaning the OS runs completely off the CD). It's a really great distro even at this early stage - they're working on better install-to-disk for preview 5. I think once this has been tested and put out I'll quite possibly use it as my main distro. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to give Linux a quick spin (since you don't have to install it on your Hard Drive!)
Yesterday lunch time I finished reading 1984 - yey me \o/ I know Kristianne is reading it and others might, so I won't reveal anything about it other than it's a great book and I'd recommend it to anyone. Today I'm gonna start reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Hopefully this will be good too :) I'd appreciate anyone recommending a book along the lines of 1984/ Brave New World - leave a comment :o)
Last night we (Me, Stu and Ian) went out to a bar called "Pleasure" in Withington to meet Laurie for a couple of drinks (OJ for me - driving), and Jenga was involved! Jenga is cool - it became projectile Jenga on the odd occasion, and I think the people on the table next to us thought we were trying to attack them. It was a pretty cool place though so I'd go again :o) Pictures of Jenga fun will be posted on my Website when I get round to it.
As I'm reading stuff I keep making notes of things - like words I don't know the meaning of (I'm 24 and I have the vocabulary of a 23 and-a-half year old - how embarrassing!). So here's my word of the day:
Solipsism is a metaphysical belief that only oneself exists, and that "existence" just means being a part of one's own mental states - all objects, people, etc, that one experiences, are merely parts of one's own mind. One is like a God, creating the reality in which one exists. Solipsism is logically coherent, but not falsifiable, so it cannot be established by current modes of the scientific method.
My Thoughts on Solipsism: I'm no philosopher, but I think you'd need to eat a lot more if this was true. | comments: Leave a comment |

| yey for today \o/
Just found out that Kristianne (my other half) got a flight back to Aus today which means one step closer to being over in the UK :o) Hopefully it should be around early Feb that she moves over here which I'm really looking forward to :o)
I had a fairly quiet weekend really since Ian was out Friday night & most of Saturday and Stu's working :o( I got a shit load of ironing done though (rock and roll!), but it needed doing for when people are over for new years and stuff.
On Sunday I went to the Trafford Center to meet up with Tony and Ed (who was on his way back to Oxford and popped over - nice!). We did a bit of shopping (I've finished all my Christmas shopping now - woohoo!). We also went for some noodles - mmm noodles.....
I got a new (to me) camera last week. I got a Lomo LC-A for it's arty potential ;o) Check out the micro-site here: http://shop.lomography.com/microsites/lca/
I got home from work today and our landlord had left a Christmas pressie for us - a box of chocci's called "Mingles". I couldn't resist them - I think they fill them with drugs or something :oP - I ate a ton and so now I'm about to go on my exercise bike for like an hour!
:::Chris' Interesting though of the day:::
Also, I started wondering about the measurment still used in the US of "cups" when I was getting a cup of water from the drinks machine at work today. They use it in cooking and stuff - like "use 1 cup of flour" for example. I know it's a proper measurement and all, but it just made me think how funny it would be if we measured other things in objects. Here's a scenario: I go to a timber yard and ask for some wood. they say "how much would you like", and I say "oh, about a chair's worth please" :oP. Nice. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Work, work, work. We're all working an hour a day extra this week so we can go to our own Christmas party (yeh I know - odd - it's in works time?). This means earlier mornings for me - doh!
Dell came today to lob a new mobo in one of the PC's at work 'cos one of the RAM slots was knackered - now it has 512Mb - yey \o/. It's the Linux box I use for networked Image compression - so much easier than teaching all the users how to compress images. Now they just pop the image(s) in an "INBOX" share, wait a minute, and they appear in the "OUTBOX" share - cool :)
I went straight to the Trafford centre after work to do a bit of shopping with my friend Steve. I didn't buy anything though :P We had a nice meal at this Noodle bar though - really tastey.
Then Stu came to meet me and we went to see Elf. I like heart warming fun-for-the-family Christmas films - gets you in the mood :)
I'm on part 3 of 1984 now - nearing the end. I'm really loving this book - I look forward to reading it every day at lunch..... I am a bit of a saddo though :P (that means uber-cool in the UK - it's slang)... hmmm.... | comments: Leave a comment |

| Well, a fun weekend of recovering from my cold was had (yey \o/). I feel much better now though :)
On Saturday I went walking about in Chorlton. I went for my hair cut (I was beginning to look like a muppet :oP) and then found a record shop to spend a couple of hours in :oP I got a couple of really cheap albums (RHCP - By the Way, The Lemonheads - It's a shame about Ray, Silverchair - Diorama) and I picked up 20 cd singles for £5! How cool's that! The best find was a promo copy of "Fall back down" by Rancid. I got about 7 extra copies of it which I think I'll sell on eBay :oP
Oh yeh, also on Saturady I watched "Bowling for Columbine". I'd wanted to watch it for a while now. For those who don't know, it's a documentary/film by Michael Moore about America's obsession with Guns and why there are so many murders with guns etc. I urge anyone who hasn't watched this to do so - it's fantastic.
Anyway, I got into work today and Trillian and my LiveJournal client won't connect so I'm using the web interface - I wonder if they've been blocked?
I got this in one of my e-mails this morning and thought it was pretty funny so I've popped it below :o)

Memo To All Staff From Tech Support
Management has determined that there is no longer any need for network or software applications support. The goal is to remove all computers from the desktop by Dec. 31, 2003.
Instead, everyone will be provided with an Etch-A-Sketch. There are many sound reasons for doing this:
1. No OS problems. 2. No technical glitches keeping work from being done. 3. No more wasted time reading and writing emails.
Frequently Asked Questions for Etch-A-Sketch Technical Support

| I'm back at work now but I've been off ill for a couple of days before. Still not feeling too fantastic but the good 'ol Lemsip Max Strength is keeping me going :P It has had one benefit in that I've managed to do most of my Christmas shopping online yesterday which is good. I also spent a lot of time looking on eBay for cool stuff. I bought a Lomo LC-A for potential cool photo-ness, although I'll probably screw it up and just get a ton of blury images :P
We watched Dumber and Dumberer last night. It's the prequal to Dumb and Dumber and it's absolutely terrible! The concept is great and, if done correctly, should've produced a brilliant film - unfortunately it was done incorrectly and produced a shite film. If I was forced to point out something good about it, it would be the guy who plays Lloyd (Jim Carrey's character in Dumb and Dumber). He does a very good young Jim Carrey at times. This said, his "I like it a lot" catch-phrase was pants - I could do it better and I suck!
I'm quite a way through reading 1984 now and it's just brilliant! Hopefully I'll get it finished soon :o)
