Random thoughts about one of the biggest media events of all time!
... ok, that's not actually true, I'm just very very tired of the media hype surounding Michael Jackson's funeral and how the media make it sound like the moon landing combined with the french revolution and the opening of the Berlin wall - all for the price of one.

Which is why I'm making Torchwood MY biggest media event this week. No MJ funeral coverage on 20+ channels for me. Nope. "Children of earth - day 1" rewatching it is for me.

- Wasn't Doctor Who not allowed anymore to use the United Nations connection with UNIT anymore? And wouldn't that apply to Torchwood too? A bigger geek than me would probably have an answer for that.

- Wait a minute, Martha is married and on her honeymoon? She was supposed to marry Mickey in the Doctor Who Christmas special! She better gets a divorce or I'll never trust the Sun again with Doctor Who news ... *lol*

- Ok, these children are totally creepy, much creepier than the best CGI alien actually. But then again, horror movies always work best for me when they contain every day stuff that suddenly turns evil. I don't think these children are evil though, something has probably just taken over their minds.

- Oh, there's an adult man doing the same thing? Mmmh ... is he the right age to be that kid from the opening?

- That maybe new Torchwood doctor is cute. Keep him, Jack.

- "it's Torchwood" - "how do you spell that?" *rofl*

- what's the 456 and what kind of random name is that anyway? I guess 123 was taken already.

- *looool* Ianto's expression when Jack said "we need a child". Mpreg writers surely feel inspired now.

- Ianto's family is like the oposite of him. Kind of funny. You can't chose who you're related to. I need that on an icon with Ianto's family ... And Jack's got a daughter?! I think I read that in a spoiler (that I didn't mean to read) somewhere too ...

- Someone's spying on Torchwood's computers? You'd think they have ultra high developed alien firewalls and stuff to protect them ...

- order to kill Jack Harkness? ... good luck with that ... and I thought that doctor was cute ... bastard! ... ok, cute bastard ... and dead bastard.

- oh, they put a bomb in Jack ... would be a good time to remember that thing from the last season that removed the alien from Martha's body ... hello? anyone? no? *boom* ok, that was a very clear NO.

- aaaand, big fat cliffhanger. Naturally.

Amen. It's turning completely obsessional. I turn on the radio and hear Michael Jackson. Whether I'm on the bus, in a restaurant or in a shop, all I hear on their radio is also Michael Jackson. I have the feeling that's all they're playing lately. Capitalist brainwashing. >__>

I don't even mind the music that much, most of the stuff on the radio isn't my taste anyway. But do we have to get some random piece of MJ stuff in every bloody newscast? "MJ ghost spotted at neverland ranch" and stuff like that? Isn't there more important stuff going on in the world? Iran? China? ...

No funeral coverage for me either. Although I'm sure news from it will eventually force its way into my brain somehow.

Yeah, I caught some of it this morning, but I can't stay away from the news forever, they might report on something that actually IS important.

Okay, what the hell? I've got a paid account and there's a huge ad in the middle of this page!!! What gives?!?!?

Am I the only one who sees it? This is the first time it's here, too.

Grrrr!

Sorry, that was a totally tangential comment. :P

I must be the only one who's enjoying the coverage of MJ. It's bringing back wonderful childhood memories of the songs I know and love. As strange as he was, he still did a lot of humanitarian work and made a big impact on the music industry. I'm choosing to remember that and let the questionable stuff fade into the background. I always like to see the best in everyone. :)

An ad here, on the comment page of my journal?! I have adblock but I don't see an ad when it's switched off either ... strange.

See, I don't have a problem with MJ and I actually like his music - but I'm just very very annoyed by the media hype and I think a funeral should be something personal, not a big show that comes with comments about how it's an oportunity for people like Maria Carrey to start a comeback ...

Also, make a general statement like "the whole world is waiting for MJ's funeral ..." and I'll most likely disagree, since "the whole world" would include me but no one asked my opinion before just including me ... it's just my natural rebelious instinct *lol*

You'd think MJ was a saint, not a pop star about 2 decades past his musical prime. Enough.

Jep. The same people who used to trash him are probably praising him now, it's ridiculous.

I'm glad I could watch eps one and two in the same day, so that I wasn't left with that cliffhanger!
It's been fantastic, hasn't it? The kids are very creepy indeed. All standing still and talking with those strange voices. Now what I really want to know is the secrets the government has been keeping. I half expect the Doctor to show up and clear things, lol!

I don't think it's the whole government that is involved. More like, a couple of government people who are abusing their positions for expected personal gain. Deal with the devil kind of thing.

A Doctor cameo would be a nice touch in the 5th episode (funny enough, there are a lot of journalists who got to see episodes 1-3 some weeks ago already, but no one seems to have seen the whole thing ... mmh ...), but when Jack was last in Doctor Who it was said that it won't work the other way round, no Doctor in Torchwood.

I managed to avoid most of the MJ hype, thankfully. I've had enough of celebrity funerals after the death of Princess Diana. :P
Michael Jackson stopped being anything else but scandal fodder a long time ago.
