Perlen der Großstadt
So, Germany is celebrating its 60th birthday while Livejournal is celebrating its 10th birthday. How these birthdays are related? Not at all, as far as I'm aware of anyway.

I sorted over 50 books out, however, most of them are going to book trading - which means I'll get other books in return.

I don't give a crap about casting shows, however, I'm positively surprised to read that "Germany's next topmodel" let a black girl win this year and not just allow her to be on the show for political correctness ... the way it usually works with these shows.

Also, is it a) pathetic or b) very pathetic to walk by a Mc Donalds, notice the ad for their free movie magazine in a window and turn around to walk in and get one ... because it has a Star Trek cover. I was also far too happy to find a little article about Doctor Who in there (apparently season 2 is out on DVDs in Germany now), because I've never read anything about this show in a German magazine before.

McDonalds has a free movie magazine? we dont have that here. I want the Burger King Star Trek glasses. :)

60th birthday? Happy Birthday Germany!!

I thought of you today, I was in the book store and they had a whole display of Vampire books. ONe had a girl on the cover and she had a "fang banger" pin on her jean jacket. LOL

Jep, there's a monthly magazine - it's the print version of this: http://kinonews.de

Was it something by Charlaine Harris?

Wouldn't it be both creepy and amusing if the birthdays were somehow related?

Weeeeell ... the German politicians tend to be on the emo side, so they might be in need of a LJ ... yes, I think there could be something there ... :D

Anything with Star Trek AND McDonalds is ok so don't feel bad!

Interesting that a black girl won Germany's Next Top Model. I find that the girls on the European versions of ANTM actually look like working models as opposed to the "reality TV show" look that ANTM has.

They have little talking dolls at Burger King's in Germany ... I've never seen so many adult men eating kids menus *rofl*

I don't know about the candidates for that particular show really, however, I have met two former winners once and they are both the generic blond type and in other casting shows you usually see like one or two non-European candidates and I always get the feeling that they are there because someone thought it's politically correct, you know?

Talking dolls. *is jealous*

I eat the kids menu anyway so . . .
Oh yes there is always PC casting on reality shows. With American Top Model of course it's not so much race, but size. So there is usally on"plus size" girl. Who even if she wins will have a limited career because of her size but everybody just ignores that. I think it's because Tyra did this whole thing about body acceptance, which is awesome and girls need that. However people seem to take this to mean that she shouldn't choose skinny models. Ridiculous because the industry is what it is, and we should be encourageing people to validate themselves, not trying to make models look average. Because if you do that you are still looking to the models you haven't changed. But them maybe it's that I don't have a particular issue with the size of models. /tangent All that was to say the long way around yeah I know but I think it functions the same with race.

Ohhhh I would of done the same with the Star Trek mag! Can you scan it? Saw it for the 3rd time today. I took my son who has been begging and begging. He watched all the Star Wars and Indiana Jones and since ST isn't any worse violence/language wise I took him. He LOVED it. He says it ties with Star Wars on coolness. ROFL Scotty, Kirk and Sulu are his favs. :)

It's nothing special (no new pics, I mean), but it's available online: http://www.kinonews.de/pherix/templates/ger/kinonews/epaper/kinonews_05_2009.pdf

And yeah for raising the geeks of the next generation :D
I think there are quite a few scenes in that Star Trek movie that feel very Star Wars to me. I could totally picture Anakin in some of the action scenes.

There's a new one every month. It's not in deep discussion of movies or anything like this, but it tells you what's new in the theaters and on DVD and of course it has pictures :)

Jajajajajajajaja Deutschland :) I really do love the country quite a lot.

Heh, I saw the notice about the model show. Interesting you point out the political correctness irony there, because on the American show "So you think you can dance", the judges quite vocally voiced their displeasure at a gay couple performing :/ Hmph, it will take literally millennia for 'political correctness' as a term to be eradicated.

They even have a birthday party here in Berlin today. Which is also the day a new president was elected (actually, the old one was re-elected) and the end of the football season. So, quite a bit of excitement today.
