Website on Juliet Landau's film about Gary Oldman is running.

http://julietlandaustakeflight.com/

Juliet's film about Oldman, "Take Flight", looks at how he made a music video for a Jewish Hip Hop band called Chutzpah, filming only with Nokia cell phones. It started as a "behind the scenes" film, but it also looks at his creative process. This is also her directoral debut. There are interviews with Juliet and her crew, and a trailer.

It will be shown Spetember 13th at the Hollywood Hill's BigBrainBoy's Mobile Media Summit.

The monsters of Buffy and Angel.

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewAlbums&friendID=90424097

FX artist John Vulich has some lovely sketches of early Buffy and Angel monsters up at his MySpace site. More cool Buffyverse stuff of his can be found over at the Optic Nerves Studios website.

Gacked from the Almost Human website:

Q: "Hey, I've noticed a lot of people claim to have done fx makeup for "Buffy" and "Angel"... what's up with that?"
A: Unfortunately, a lot of people do claim to have created FX for these shows. Let us clarify: John Vulich did amazing work on "Buffy" for 5 seasons and also did "Angel" season 2. Dave Miller did the first season of "Angel" and Joel Harlow contributed to Season 6 of "Buffy". Robert Hall/Almost Human did Seasons 3-5 of "Angel" / contributed to Season 6, and all of Season 7 of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Any one else who claims to have "created makeup fx for these shows" is misrepresenting themselves. Most likely they were sculptors, painters or technicians who worked for the above shop owners or one of the MANY day player on set makeup artists who applied the prosthetics over the years for the larger episodes. Hope that helps.

all right...

Even with Lady Quayle adding all this excellent hot mess to the election, I am taking a vacation.

A vacation to Canada.

To the French Canadian part, even. (I'm going to Montreal.)

Apparently there's a lot of wi-fi there, so I'm sure I'll be around, but less around.

Looking at herself, she wondered what she would be like if her nose grew a millimeter a day. How long would it take before her face began to look like someone else's?
And if various parts of her body began to grow and shrink and Tereza no longer looked like herself, would she still be herself, would she still be Tereza?
Of course. Even if Tereza were completely unlike Tereza, her soul inside would be the same and look on in amazement at what was happening to her body.
Then what was the relationship between Tereza and her body? Had her body the right to itself Tereza? And if not, then what did the name refer to? Merely something incorporeal, intangible?

*sigh* Only Me

You know how I said yesterday that I had a feeling it was going to be a good day today? Yeah. I'm SO not a psychic.

Actually, much of the day went by smoothly. I was busy at work but not nuts, we were joking around, I completely missed an opportunity to tell Dave where to stick it (literally!) ... it was a relatively nice day. And then came the drive home.

I ran over something ... I don't know what it was, but it sounded like when you run over a sewer grate. And then I heard this floppy sound that I at first thought was the van in front of me and then I heard this REALLY floppy sound and a loud grinding. And then I realized ... oh, shit. I have a flat tire.

I pulled into a Chinese restaurant parking lot and called my mom and then called AAA. At first it was just annoying, but when the tow truck guy finally arrive and then couldn't get my tire off to put on the spare (he whacked at that thing with a sledge hammer numerous times ... it just didn't budge), I started getting upset. Because why must my car be so difficult? First it was next to impossible to break into that night I locked my keys in it with it running and now the tire doesn't come off?? Ugh.

Tow Truck Guy told me he had to send a flatbed and have it towed to a service station. Called my mom, who drove to Braintree to pick me up and tell me where to send the car. By this point, it's 7, I hadn't eaten anything since 1:30, and I was getting a headache. So I walked across the street to a Dunkin Donuts (because I don't like Chinese food ;P) and got a flatbread sandwich for dinner.

So then I went back to the car to eat while waiting for my mom and Second Tow Truck Guy, and some guy knocks on the window and asks if I know I have a flat tire. I wanted to be all, "No, I don't! I'm just sitting in my car in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant, eating a Dunkin Donuts dinner because it's fun!" But I didn't and just said that I was aware of the problem, heh.

Mom came, tow truck came, we went to Dairy Queen, and I proceeded to drip chocolate ice cream all down the front of my shirt.

*sigh*

So now I'm home and carless. But at least I'm home. And Capital One will be happy that I'm actually going to be using my card again for something and not just paying them back. :P

*flail*

Tomorrow is the big moving day. So looking forward to that...except not. It's going to be a pain. But being on the first floor will be worth it. No more flailing when the fire alarm goes off. No more having to rely on an elevator with buttons I can't even reach. No more worrying about being stuck up here when the power goes out.

This is a good thing. Being without internet and cable tv for the weekend will suck, but it's not the end of the world. Besides, I have all of Bones to watch and every episode of Middleman that have aired so far. But I will miss newbie weekend at FH. :(

Oh well. I have things to look forward to when I'm back online.

Feel free to text or call me. I'll have my cell on.

Palin VP Choice

Governor Palin for McCain's VP is not some kind of amazing, historic choice. As a woman, I am not proud or thrilled to see her on the national ticket.

The only reason she is there is because she has boobs. That's it. It's blatant pandering, and I find it highly insulting. There is no way a man with her resume would even be considered for the VP slot.

If a woman is going to be elevated to this position, I want it on her merits, not her body parts.

Doc-ish news on the soundtrack release date and more moist comics, which is so hard. And moist.

I love you, American politics, you vile, game-playing hot mess.

Line of the day, via DCist: Did McCain just nominate Laura Roslin to be his VP?

Americans don't suck nugget of the day: More Americans watched Obama's speech than the Olympics opening ceremony, the American Idol finale, or the Academy Awards last night so thank the fuck Christ about that.

Meanwhile, I stand by my favorite dismissive nickname of Sarah Palin: Lady Quayle. Because it's funny and true. Plus, it highlights the blatant pandering of the pick, given Rove said of Tim Kaine: ZOMG he was only governor 3 years, and then only mayor of a tiny town like Richmond! NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH.

Palin is nice on paper, but she hamstrings two very effective McCain anti-Obama narratives: 1) celebrity (you think someone might dig out Lady Quayle's fucking Vogue editorial? I think so!), and more importantly, 2) experience. Son, you can't craft your entire electoral strategy on, "I was a POW" and "The scary black man don't know nothin' 'bout leadin' no countries" when you just picked someone who has 18 months of governing a state with 2.3 million people less than "the South Side of Chicago."

Well, you can, but I think that sound you heard was the sound of Hillary Clinton's brain saying, "If the old man gets in, Karl Rove will have him killed and make Lady Quayle the first woman president. THAT CANNOT BE. TO THE CLINTON ASSWHUPPING MACHINE! Ie, let's go hassle Republican 'vote fraud' bastards!"

Also. I have my sources, and sources say that the WTFery of the Palin pick is in fact, McCain's middle finger to the party as he goes down, as he actually wanted someone else (which means Lieberman) and the party said HELL NO. Also that there is a lot about Palin that will "come out" in the next weeks, so um. Take that as you will, but that ongoing active ethics investigation isn't going to play super-well, I suspect.
