A Day in the Life has been updated with Chapter 17. That's not all, though. While reorganizing my files, I found the ORIGINAL Day in the Life draft. This was written somewhere between March and May of 2006 - about a year before I started work on A Day in the Life - and it was a Barty AU fic with no magic, just like ADITL. However, it was markedly different. I only got about halfway through the first chapter, but I thought it was interesting reading it. So naturally, I'm going to post it here with commentary!
I now present you with the rough draft of the unwritten story: ( Everything's Not Lost. )
Obviously I like song titles for fic titles.

So. I reread (well, kinda... I skipped some parts) the first 2 books of the Barty Trilogy this past week. I forgot how much I loved those books. Anyways, I was working a little on Tommy today, and then decided to sit down and write this Barty short story I've been meaning to sit down and write for a while.
( Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall! )

So. There's this Barty fanfic that I've been trying to write since last August called 'Alternatives'. I've talked about it plenty before.
Anywho, I went back, edited it, and started writing the third and final chapter. But that's not the thing.
There's this scene that draws on an alternate reality - in which magic never existed. As I wrote it, I just got so into it, but I'd forgotten about it because I've been so busy lately.
But now, sitting here, I just want to write that. An AU Barty fic in which there is no magic. I have some of the plot, but I was just wondering if that sounds like a good idea to anybody. It would be called "Everything's Not Lost", after the Coldplay song of the same name. (That's a phrase that I used several times in AGoC, by the way, if it seems familiar.)
But then there's this long HP fic I've started the prologue of and 'You Can Call Me Tommy'... but I guess I can work on all of them at once. I just wanna write, y'know? I'm sick of being lazy and resting on my laurels.
And I still have yet to finish the first chapter of 'The Scientist', an HP Remus/Lily fic I want to write.
Stoopit, stoopit, stoopit.
And then there's a two part noveled fic I want to write...
Imagination sucks.

So, "Ptolemy's Gate" arrived.
Followed by much dancing by myself, no less.
Not only was it brilliant, but it had a terribly sad ending - and add to that the sadness of my favorite book series coming to a close.
Geh. I think I'm going to England to go bother Jonathan Stroud. Who says it has to be only a trilogy?
