A Day in the Life has been updated with Chapter 17. That's not all, though. While reorganizing my files, I found the ORIGINAL Day in the Life draft. This was written somewhere between March and May of 2006 - about a year before I started work on A Day in the Life - and it was a Barty AU fic with no magic, just like ADITL. However, it was markedly different. I only got about halfway through the first chapter, but I thought it was interesting reading it. So naturally, I'm going to post it here with commentary!
I now present you with the rough draft of the unwritten story: ( Everything's Not Lost. )
Obviously I like song titles for fic titles.

Epic fail by the Lakers in Boston last night. I think the fourth quarter they just realized, "Holy shit, we're in the Finals? It probably wasn't a good idea to completely suck for those first three quarters." A lot of that was on the refs, though. Still, when Sasha Vujacic (or He Whose Name Cannot Be Spelled Correctly) is taking an off-balance shot that ends up being the biggest shot of the game, you're not doing something right. And Pierce owned him, anyways. And Powe!!!!
ANYWAYS.
Been writing a lot of my X-Men: Evo WIP. It's interesting editing A Day in the Life and writing that fic at the same time: I end up comparing the two Kittys. I really hope they don't overlap or anything. On one hand they're both strong, independently-minded, moral characters with occasional tempers (especially when it comes to Nat and Lance), but on the other hand Kitty Jones is more of a loner while Kitty Pryde is a very sociable person. Pryde's mannerisms are a bit different - although it's hard trying to find the balance between the valley girl seen in early Evo and her more sophisticated persona, especially when you're writing a fic that takes place two years after Ascension - but they both share a sense of naivete. I think in this case, Pryde's a little less naive, since she's experienced so much, so A Day in the Life is more of a learning experience for Kitty Jones while this X-Men fic is just a continuation of events that seem to be recurring in Kitty Pryde's life. It's interesting, at least, and the dynamic between both Kittys and their parents is similar but strikingly different. I'm having fun with it, but it's a challenge.
Enough with my inane ramblings about writing, since I don't know anyone who's a fan of both Evo and Barty besides myself. Although Lance is also a struggle, but a fun struggle. I'm trying to balance his "tough guy" exterior with his obvious inner romanticism. Kind of like if you mixed John McLane and Bruce Springsteen cerca Born to Run, with a slight dash of awkwardness.
Hm, I really do talk too much.

A Day in the Life has been updated with Chapter Thirteen.
In other news...

Finished Lonely Werewolf Girl, almost done with Catch-22 (hoping to finish it tonight), about to start a Noam Chomsky book my friend lent me. Then after that it's either The World is Flat or this awesome book called Mind Control, which the same friend will let me borrow.
A Day in the Life has been updated. Really trying to get back in the writing mood, but it's not been easy so far. Oh well.

A Day in the Life has been updated.
I'd really like to sleep in. Just once. It seems like I haven't in forever. But that's really minor.

Chapter 7 of A Day in the Life has finally been posted. I'm hoping that I'll update You Can Call Me Tommy before I leave town Sunday, which shouldn't be too bad - in theory the chapter's done (and then some) but I need to finish the whole two-parter before I split it in half to post. But that shouldn't be too bad.
Still obsessing over X-Men: Evolution. No surprises there. I might try writing a few one-shots or couple-chapter fics to kill the plot bunnies. But we'll see.
And Rock Band? I didn't get it, but a guy I know did, and the drums are AWESOME. I love that game. Super Mario Galaxy is equally awesome, and Zelda DS is fun. Got two albums (Tommy and Purple Rain) but I haven't been able to listen to them yet (CD/DVD drive is broken... typical Hal).
And now I'm off to slay the plot bunnies.

Chapter 6 of A Day in the Life is up, finally.
Last night's game was so frustrating. The Patriots got incredibly lucky, and the Ravens shot themselves in the foot. Wow. I hate the Pats so much. I mean, really. Can they be kicked out of the league? Please? I don't care if it's legal or not. I just hate them.
But enough about that. Ugh.
I've been really tired lately. No idea why. I wish House was still on. Stupid strike. I get why it's happening, but really. Come to an agreement - I want to watch my favorite shows!
And I'm a beast at Halo. (Not really. But I'm not terrible, which is somewhat amazing.)

Chapter 5 of A Day in the Life has been posted. Huzzah.
The Cowboys own my soul. I want Fox to put up the last House episode already since I missed it. I really want Rock Band, but it costs a bajillion dollars. Been playing Pokemon and Zelda recently.
And on the subject of Pokemon! I'm somewhat frustrated, because I really need someone to trade with. I mean, Haunter (affectionately dubbed Voldemort) and Graveler and Machoke aren't just going to evolve themselves... ARGH. Because seriously, I love Haunter and everything, but Gengar's much better. Everyone knows that. But I'm trying to convince this guy at my school who owns every pre-DS Pokemon game to get a DS, which he wants but doesn't have the money yet. Gah.
I'm such a nerd.

Chapter 4 of A Day in the Life is up. So yay for that.
In other news, am I the only one who just realized that Iorek is being voice by Gandalf Magneto the Fantasy Film Jesus! McKellen? A film that looked like it was made of fail is now totally made of WIN. (Well, probably 95% win and 5% "WTF no religion?!!!!!")
Not sure how the film looks, though. Kind of seems cheesy in a PS/SS or CoS Chris Columbus kind of way. Never knew daemon was pronounced like that (somewhat appeases me for all the no religion crap), and not sure what to think of the bear animation - I'd have to see if it grates on me over the course of the film. The brief glimpse of Pantaliamon (or however you spell it, it's late) did look good though, but I'm reserving judgement on the girl. I kept anticipating that Iorek would growl, "You will not pass!" at her. The bear fight, however, did look pretty badass, although you could distinguish the CGI when Lyra showed up in the picture.
Meh. It looks kind of like Narnia and LotR put together, with a little HP element. If it's like Narnia (although more cynical and less religious, of course) I'll be happy. I love the irony of the thing, seeing how Pullman just came out and blasted Narnia and LotR. Brilliant author. Completely idiotic man.
Aaaaaannnnndddd I'm done. Time for sleep/writing. They're interchangeable, really. (That doesn't speak well of my writing.)

Updated A Day in the Life, too lazy to link. I've been watching season 3 of House nonstop for the past two days. I'm officially an addict (although the newest episode sucked, IMHO). Also been playing a bunch of Pokemon. I'm really a nerd.
Glad the Mavs season has finally started. For some reason I still haven't gotten around to posting one of the House fics I wrote a long time back, but I'm too tired to do that now. Oh well.
