Sarah Palin... Wow... what a dumb pick (IMO). Hey, that's fine by me really. Should make things easier for Obama/Biden.
I'll drag up a quote from the First Vice-President, John Adams, "My country has in its wisdom contrived for me the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived" |

Ok, who's teaching these noobs? My gear takes enough upkeep as it is. There's a lot of mild steel, and fighting in the rain doesn't help it out any. However, WTF is up with this? Those of you who fought at Pennsic will recognize that color. It's the paint they put on your weapon. So, not only did someone have the total lack of courtesy and I guess common sense, to wait until the paint was dry on his weapon, but then had the aim to hit me in the Verval leather rather than in the shiny metal surface that I could scrub (or even in the duct tape right above this spot). Between that and the aluminum shields I saw out there that had zero edging... I mean come on folks. I know we're enemies for a week every year, but there's no reason to beat on other people's stuff. |

GFD Fitting Trade I'm making a new outfit on the quicker-than-I-originally-meant-to for the St. Luke's Challenge (yay procrastination and changing my mind at the last minute). I have a reasonably-well-fitting GFD pattern, but I'd like to tweak it - really this requires a second set of hands, however, preferably belonging to someone other than my husband (who hates helping me fit things). So I'd like to propose a trade - anyone out there want a GFD pattern of their very own? And any of those people have some weeknight free time this week, or maybe next? Current Mood: hopeful |

ups and downs It's the roller coaster weekend, and we're running down the hill. I think tomorrow I am going to sit back, fix some armor, and have a very borring day. |

A month with the iPhone. Many of you have said, “Nick, you just bought a nifty new smart phone, why are you getting an iPhone?” Well, to be 100% honest, gadget lust is a major factor. However, that said, I’ve found a number of cool features that have convinced me that it was the right thing to do. ( So, here’s my review, for what it’s worth. ) |

LJ Free-cycle Hi folks,
We're looking to get rid of some furniture. If anyone is interested, post here, and we'll see what we can do about getting it to you. It's all free, it just needs to not take up space in my house. I'd rather not have to deliver, but I'm going to have to haul it away somewhere anyway...
1 Couch - it's a sleeper sofa with a bed in it. The cats have scratched the arms of the couch, so I recommend a slip cover.
1 Dining room table - this consists of a large sheet of glass and a brass base that holds it up. It's very mid-80's, so it should really be an awesome fashion piece in your home. You can easily put 6 people around it. It's also been a cutting table in the sewing room, so there ya go.
1 Small desk - this goes with the dresser that is going to Jenny Townes, so she gets first dibs if she wants it. It's kind of a light oak color, and consists of 3 drawers and a place to sit. It's probably only 18-24 inches deep, and 3 feet wide - so it would suck as a desktop computer desk, but would work great as a laptop desk.
There ya go, have at it folks. I'll try to remember to take some pictures tonight and post them if you're interested. |

Pre-caffeine epiphany... I had a flash of insight this morning, and I haven't even finished my tea yet! This particular thought may seem obvious to some of you, but it's been bugging me for a while.
OK, so.. the May Calendar of the Tres Riches Heures, specifically the chick in green in the front (you can click for a bigger, though fuzzy, pic). --->
Her sleeves have been bugging me for ages - mostly because every time I looked at them I saw two large, draped sleeves, which *Did Not Make Sense*. As the way I see it, if both the green sleeve and the blue sleeve were open, then she'd need another tight sleeve underneath (as I've never seen an image of a woman - or a man for that matter -wearing open sleeves over bare arms). This of course would mean she was wearing three dresses, which I personally don't want to do and thought was a bit odd, OR it could mean she was wearing some sort of false sleeve as the middle layer - that sounded overcomplicated and unlikely. So I pondered and pondered and pondered some more, and never came up with an explanation.
Until this morning. tashadandelion mentioned sleeve layering on stitchwhich's journal in a completely unrelated discussion, and I realized "oh! she's written a paper on that, I should email her and ask her about it". So I started writing, which involved staring at the picture a bit more so I could describe what I see, and then I realize....
It's not an open sleeve.
I've been torturing myself all this time for no reason. It's a large cuff on the end of a tight sleeve, just like the blue chick in the back is wearing (the white dagged bit at her wrist). I've even made those before. (They're fun, though are VERY impractical for daily life - they're much harder to get to stay out of your way than large open sleeves). And I've seen these in other sources too, so it's perfectly plausible (unlike, say, the false-sleeve idea...) It even looks fairly reasonable as a solution to the chick-in-black in April's red-and-gold sleeves. Now, I just have to figure out a better way to cut these - the previous ones I did were a large oval, with a wrist hole cut slightly off center, attached to the wrist seam of an otherwise normal dress. I don't think the drape was quite right...
