Current mood: depressed

Looking through my inbox's crap is depressing.
Failed internship requests, failed friendships, failed poetry submissions, failed everything. Sigh.

How many times does one have to try before one gets things right?

"You are going to draw 100,000 crappy drawings before you get to anything good...so you'd better get to it!"

That was said by Chuck Jones, he was speaking of art but it can apply to anything you try to do over and over again. I guess after 100,000 attempts, giving up might be a good idea...

Regarding the poetry, everyone gets rejected, and rejected, and rejected. It's just part of being a writer, unfortunately. And that goes double for poetry, from my own experience and what I've heard from others. All you can do is have faith in your work and be persistent-- once you get, say, 30 rejections on a piece, though, you might try revising it before sending it out again. And if that doesn't work, move on to something else and try submitting that instead. It's really tough, and depressing, but it pays off in the end, I promise. An acceptance letter is a thing of beauty.
