Dear Frank,
I had been looking forward to the opportunity to hear you speak for a few years now. My new friend and I were at the front doors to the art center, just about to walk in, when I received a phone call from my babysitter...she needed me to come home right away.
Upon returning home, the gentleman that accompanied me to the event suggested we sit down and share our own secrets with each other. I proceeded to grab a notebook and we each had our own pen. Three secrets each were shared.
It ended up being the most incredible evening as we elaborated on our secrets, exposed our soft underbellies, and neither of us ran away - as we all fear will happen when we expose such intimate parts of ourselves.
You be well, too...
Sincerely, Kristen

| Pictures from a Jungle Cruise in Palau |
[11 Oct 2008|09:12pm] |
We were on a jungle river cruise to see the unique Palauian Crocodile. The crocs did not disappoint. I had my long lens on because I was shooting pictures of birds and bats. My wife was using a pocket canon, so I kept using the long lens to get super close.
Comments (positive or negitive)?

All pictures were shot with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT using a Canon 70-300 lens.
There are 5 more under the cut. ( More pictures... )

4 images behind cut ( Read more... ) So my advertising photo class had a studio portrait assignment. we were to photograph 6 different non-photo major persons with each having a different type lighting... even though we were supposed to complete 6 I only did 4, the day before the assignment was due. Surprisingly I had more work to show than most of the class, lazy photo majors.

Haven't heard from me in awhile? I've been working! And now it's finally time for the beta release of kostas portfolio.
If I could ask for one thing from you it would be that you spent a few minutes clicking around with the intention of finding broken things.
+Misspellings +Things that sound stupid +Broken links +Picture inconsistencies +Grammaarrrrr +Nav. improvements, things you like or dislike. +IS ANYTHING MISSING THAT YOU FEEL NEEDS TO BE IN THERE?
Let the criticism rain forth because if I plan on getting into MIT with this bad boy-- its gotta be perfect.
I thank you again and again and again in advance. So here it goes:

I am all for some critique or advice on how to make these better. I went from a Nikon D70s to Canon 40D and love the Canon capabilities. I think I used my Sigma 18-50mm (something to 50) lens. Normally I photograph my animals but I love other subjects that are.. less mobile. :P

( Many photos )

I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with a 18-200mm zoom lens. What would be the best setting for taking pictures of someone surfing or skating without being blurry and being able to snap the shots quickly one after the other? Thank you SO much for ANY help!

Got my 50D yesterday and thought I'd share some initial thoughts with you all (and okay, rub it in a little bit..)!
Background first: I've owned (and loved!) my 350D (Rebel XT) since 2005, but had really started hitting its limits in terms of AF performance, ISO abilities, and dealing with the small viewfinder and LCD (both troublesome since I like to use old manual-focus glass). I'd wanted to upgrade for a while, but even the 40D didn't seem like quite enough of a jump to justify the purchase. So I was very excited when the 50D was announced, and have read probably every word written about it on the Net in the past few weeks, especially since it started hitting the shelves in Asia and Europe. There seemed to be (and still is) a lot of debate about how much better the 50D is than the 40D, and I'll let the pros and pixel-peepers sort that out. But there was no doubt that it would be leaps and bounds ahead of my trusty 350D, so when I found it in stock at Best Buy this weekend, I talked the wife into it and took the plunge.
( First impressions and an ISO 3200 image inder the cut! )

I have a question regarding photography, but not about my camera. I just was wondering if anyone in this community was someone who enjoyed photography but didn't know much about it, but decided to study it in college. Were you intimidated by the other students? How did you do? Etc...
This is sort of a situation I am in now. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!

-----Email Message----- Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2008 4:23 PM Subject: Twin brother
This is my worst fear, that my husband will sleep with my twin sister if we were to ever divorce. This fear alone will ensure we never divorce.

Someone can see now through my mum's eyes. I wish, instead, that she could still be looking at me with them.

I figured it out. Turns out I was deciphering my own secret. I'm going to get over my fear, I'm going to go for it.
-----Email Message----- Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2008 9:56 AM Subject: Secret Code
A PostSecret Community teen recently shared in a forum she couldn't share her secrets as her Mom read her diary and knew her id on PSC. This reminded me how my mother read my diary and reminded me of a secret I had.
Since I had no outlet for expressing my anger, I would write my thoughts in acronyms. I knew exactly what I was saying, but no one else ever would. It was my secret way to let the anger out.
The interesting aspect of this is I would often go back to the writings and what I previously said would now be a mystery even to me. It was my secret yet I couldn't decipher it.

I KNEW IT!

This year a UK and Korean edition of the PostSecret book came out and there are official versions of the website in French, German, Spanish and Korean. This week on Frank's PostSecret Blog on MySpace I interview Brian Cotlove who runs PostSecretFrance.
Hi Brian, can you explain how you started PostSecretFrance?
Being a longtime fan of PostSecret, I always found the foreign language secrets to be the most interesting and appealing to me. I think it's incredible how secrets can cross cultural and language barriers with ease. So I combined my love of the French language and culture with my love of PostSecret, made this video in French and PostSecretFrance was born.
Can you share a postcard with us that has a personal meaning for you and explain why it is special to you?
My favorite secret that I have gotten so far is the simplest one. It's scrawled on a Post-It note and says, "I'm mailing this card because I have the feeling that I'm going to meet the person who will change my life on the way to the post office."

I'm actually kind of jealous of this person because they seem so unfailingly positive and confident. Yet at the same time this secret constantly reminds me how I am able to do just what this person did. I'm amazed every time I read it at how just a little Post-It note can make me feel.
What is a secret about yourself you have never shared before?
(Read the rest of this interview at Frank's PostSecret Blog on MySpace.)

The Today Show will be filming the Tuesday PostSecret Event at the University of Virginia (sold-out). Another PostSecret Event this week will be held at Vanderbilt University (sold-out).

| From my brilliant father |
[02 Oct 2008|10:08pm] |
"How did you get to be so wise?" The young man asked the wise man.
"By making wise choices," the wise man answered.
"How did you know they were wise choices?" the young man countered.
"Why, by experience, of course," the old man replied.
"How did you get experience?" the young man asked.
"By making poor choices!" the wise old man exclaimed.
Knowing that every challenging experience contains the seeds of success makes life a constant learning experience and a magnificient adventure. It's all about the journey, it's always been that way.
