farawaz, so close, up with the static and the radio
i returned to Berlin for the first time in 12 years and it's really really different now. it's not just the crowds and the awareness of itself as a tourist destination, the rebult city, the capital of reunited Germany...I'm not fully sure what ot is. But the city I knew and and loved is gone. I still love Berlin, I just remember it in teh days of the early 90's, the sounds of the Edge's guitar echoing there, the artist dives, teh East Side gallery, the sense of rebirth happeing. It's the first city I was ever on my own in, teh first palce I really felt free to explore and be me without my parents around. and that city has been changed: my old neighborhgood is a little on the run-down side, teh park in teh middle of oberhofer platz overgrown and grafittied. but there are reminders: the neighborhhod market is still there.
i think next summer i'll try to get a holdiay apartment there and reacquaint myself with Berlin, since we didn't have enough time.
we're in prague now, and it's very nice, but a little different. like say you want to cross a street, well, there are not always crosswalks and often these bastard railings that prevent you from crossing, so sometimes to just go across a street, you have to walk several blocks out of your way, go in circles and pretty much end up back where you started, but you can't go ina straight line.
had a loevly day at prague castle, looking at medieval tortire devices. never buy boots from a spaniard. trust me.
we also went t o see the infant of prague and invented a very dirty legend about it. very dirty. we then left it as an offering. we are going to hell.
