If you happen to watch Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey on Sunday night at 9pm—and you should, because it’s incredible—then you’re going to notice a lot of really gorgeously animated sequences over the course of the series. We wanted to know what went into making these parts of the show, so we went straight to the source.
Kara Vallow might not be a name you’re very familiar with, and that’s okay; she tends to stay behind the scenes on the production side of animation. Her resume, however, is pretty stacked: she’s worked on Dilbert, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Johnny Bravo and Drawn Together, as well as the Jessica Yu documentary, In The Realms of the Unreal, about the life and work of painter Henry Darger. Of course, she’s probably best known for her work with Seth MacFarlane, which includes Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show. She was kind enough to speak to us this week about her involvement with Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey, and what went into creating such a distinct, integral part of the series.
I also got the chance to speak with Ann Druyen last week as part of Nat Geo’s Space Camp experience, and she said that the animation sequences were something Seth [MacFarlane] was really interested in doing from the get-go.
What was that process like from your point of view? When did you first get involved?

Naomi Campbell chatted with Andy Cohen on Thursday’s edition of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, giving her opinions about ongoing scandals involving the networks flagship Real Housewives series.
Of Beverly Hills, she said the ongoing with between Brandi and Lisa — which has dominated much of this season’s storyline — has been “pathetic” on Brandi’s behalf, as she made no bones about which side she’s taking.
“I’m on Lisa’s side!” the beauty said, adding she’s known the Vanderpump Rules star since she was 7-years-old.
Moving onto Atlanta, there was the question about Mama Joyce, Kandi Burruss‘ meddling, helicopter mother who’s never short of a strong opinion about her daughter’s love life or life, in general. “I don’t want to be disrespectful to her mother, but Mama Joyce has way overstepped her boundaries.”
Asked about Porsha, Naomi said the reality star should be “a little ashamed” about her infamous Underground Railroad railroad flub; she stopped short of casting any aspersions about her break up from former NFL star Kordell Stewart.
“Oh God, do I have to answer this question?” Naomi joked, before delivering a diplomatic soundbite about how Porsha seems to be adapting to the single life well.

Chipotle is suing Frank Ocean for backing out of a $425,000 deal to sing a remake of "Pure Imagination" for an animated Chipotle ad.
As TMZ reports, Ocean didn't want Chipotle's logo to appear at the end of the advertisement, so when company reps showed him a final cut that displayed the logo prominently, he reneged on his obligation to record the track. Chipotle claims to have received an email from Ocean's camp claiming that the singer believed he had a final say over the recorded material and its use.
Chipotle is suing Ocean for his $212,500 advance.

Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Anthony Anderson and Octavia Spencer are among those starring in pilots this season.
With Scandal ruling primetime and star Kerry Washington becoming an awards-season fixture, more pilots led by black actors are in the works this season.
Viola Davis has been tapped to star in Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers' How to Get Away With Murder at ABC, Romany Malco and Anthony Anderson will top the network's Kevin Hart and Kenya Barris comedy pilots, respectively. NBC hasThe Office's Craig Robinson and Deception's Meagan Good leading the call sheet in Mr. Robinson and sci-fi drama Babylon Fields, respectively.
At Fox, Lee Daniels' Empire pairs Hustle & Flowduo Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson as the backbone of a hip-hop label, Jada Pinkett Smith terrorizes Batman origin story Gotham, and Octavia Spencer heads the hospital drama Red Band Society. Of these, Robinson's comedy already has been picked up to series, whileGotham has a series commitment attached. Not to be outdone, CBS has Halle Berry starring in its summer sci-fi drama series Extant.
And that's only midway through casting season.
Noted Fox chief Kevin Reilly in January: "I see the shift in the way people are conceiving the roles [and] casting them."
Hollywood has been trying to reboot the Zorro franchise for a few years now, and it looks like things are heating up for the project once again. Two years ago, a post-apocalyptic futuristic reboot called Zorro Reborn was planned at 20th Century Fox that would have painted the titular character as more of a vigilante than a hero. Gael Garcia Bernal was poised to star, but the film never materialized. Now there’s movement on a new adaptation of the character, as Sony is gearing up to start work on a Zorro film described as a “gritty” reboot of the swashbuckler.
Per Deadline, Sony has hired playwright Chris Boal to pen the script for a Zorro reboot. The goal of this new film is to make a movie that ditches the traditional swashbuckler tone in favor of “more of a Dark Knight-style unveiling of the character with a new backstory, gritty realism, and emotional core.” The report notes that the film will incorporate swordplay with “the martial arts that came from Europe and created a deadly combination of action and lethal fighting systems that combined swords, daggers, grappling, and bare knuckles.”
Sony first hired Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia to write the Zorro reboot in late 2011, but that film never progressed past the script stage. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald—who are also producing the Men in Black reboot for Sony—are producing this new reboot, and now that a new writer has been set, this thing can start moving closer to fruition.
The most recent incarnation of Zorro on the big screen was director Martin Campbell’s excellent 1998 film The Mask of Zorro and its 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro. Both movies starred Antonio Banderas as the titular hero and served as thrilling action-adventure throwbacks, mixing in plenty of swordplay and one-liners while steering clear of unintentional comedy. I’m not convinced that “gritty realism” is what the Zorro franchise needs (would it kill us to have some fun with a traditional action-adventure film?), but I guess that’s what Sony has in mind for the Zorro franchise—assuming this iteration finally gets off the ground.

GH's Jon Lindstrom on His Marriage to Cady McClain!
It's good to be Jon Lindstrom! The multi-talented fan fave is best known as Dr. Kevin Collins on ABC's General Hospital. The actor recently got hitched in a hush-hush ceremony to his longtime love Cady McClain — the iconic Dixie on All My Children and soon to be Kelly Andrews on The Young and the Restless. TV Guide had a gab session with Lindstrom to discuss it all!
TV Guide: Congrats on the marriage.
Jon Lindstrom: Cady and I got married on February 14 at the Beverly Hills courthouse and had a wonderful party at home with our friends and family. Very intimate. We had it catered by a burger truck and set up a bar in the back.
It was simple and perfect. Cady did an amazing job putting it together. My folks came from the Northwest and Cady's sister from San Diego. Lynn Herring, Kin Shriner and John York were there. Just a few old pals. It was a great day!
TV Guide: The court is famed for its spontaneous weddings. Was that the case?
Lindstrom: No, it wasn't spontaneous but nor was it always the plan. We've been engaged for quite a while and it just seemed like the natural order of things.
We also felt that there would be real protection for one another if we got married. We love each other deeply and get along so well that it was kinda like, why not? I'm not going anywhere. Cady's not going anywhere. So, really, why not?
TV Guide: No thoughts of doing something more elaborate?
Lindstrom: There was never a chance we were going to do a big thing. Some of the magazines heard we were planning something and wanted to come photograph it. That would never happen with us. We're very private people and we don't like to share those things. [Laughs] We're not into pomp and circumstance.
TV Guide: Did you have a honeymoon?
Lindstrom: We went off to Mexico to a fantastic place near Ixtapa. Very chill, very low key, just exactly what we wanted. Eric Idle was staying there at the same time, which was kinda cool.
TV Guide: Now you're a filmmaking family! I've seen Cady's films and they're exceptional.
Lindstrom: My beautiful love was an associate producer on How We Got Away With It and was invaluable. She really got inspired to go out and make her own films. She's an extraordinary visual artist and really nails it as a director. It's been so incredible to have each other as we expand our careers in this way. We're a constant source of love and support for each other. It's what we do.

Lindsay Lohan wasn't spewing BS on "Jimmy Fallon" Thursday night -- talking about a "Mean Girls" reunion -- TMZ has learned, it's been in the works for weeks.
FYI, 2014 is the 10th anniversary of the film's release -- and sources tell us, co-writer Tina Fey has been leading the charge for a reunion to commemorate the occasion ... wrangling the entire cast over the last month.
And Lindsay was apparently the last to know about it -- she went on "Fallon" Thursday talking about how she had just run into Tina who mentioned the reunion idea to her ... and Lindsay was into it.
It's unclear how the reunion will come together -- Jimmy suggested hosting it on his show -- but we're told it could also materialize as a comedy sketch ... maybe on an awards show.
Sources close to Tina tell us, several prominent cast members are already on board -- Amy Poehler (Mrs. George), Jonathan Bennett (dreamy Aaron), Rajiv Surendra (Math Enthusiast / Bad-Ass MC), and Daniel Franzese (Too Gay to Function).
Pretty awesome. Now get in losers. We're going shopping.
Kesha is money ... well actually not anymore, because she's dropped the $ from her name.
Sources connected to the singer tell TMZ ... she wants a fresh start after her 60 days in rehab for an eating disorder, and the moniker she uses in her name reminds her of her "old self."
So from now on, it's simply Kesha.
We're told she's spending a lot of time with a therapist who will continue what she calls a work in progress.
Kesha is also following the advice she got in rehab -- get rid of the negative people in her life who contributed to the problems in her life that led to the eating disorder.
Everyone's a work in progress, so congrats Kesha for being self-aware.
Through Thicke and thin? Maybe not! Robin Thicke stepped out without his wedding band on Friday, Mar. 7 in NYC, even after professing his eternal love (multiple times!) for estranged wife Paula Patton.
Days after telling concertgoers that he was trying to win her back, Thicke was all smiles Friday afternoon without his wedding band. The singer, who turns 37 on Monday, Mar. 10, was photographed interacting with fans outdoors, ahead of his concert in Madison Square Garden Friday night.
Since the high school sweethearts announced their separation on Feb. 24, the "Blurred Lines" crooner has been on a public tour (of sorts) to save his marriage. On Sunday, Mar. 2, the singer -- still wearing his wedding ring -- sang Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" at his concert at the Borgata in A.C. He also dedicated his song, "Lost Without U" to the Baggage Claim actress and confessed onstage: "For y'all that don't know, me and my wife separated but I'm trying to get my girl back. She's a good woman."
Patton, meanwhile, seemed unfazed by Thicke professing his love while dancing to his hit single at a pre-Oscars bash on Mar. 1. "She didn't let it ruin her evening," an eyewitness told Us Weekly.
Despite the latest setbacks in his personal life, Thicke took some time Thursday, Mar. 6 to use his celebrity for good. The singer stopped by the Ryan Seacrest Foundation's studio at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to meet with kid patients.
Thicke was once again without his wedding band for the outing, as seen in an Instagram photo uploaded from his visit. "Met some incredible children earlier today," he wrote beside a cute picture of him taking a selfie with a little girl The singer and Patton share one child, 3-year-old son Julian. "Robin wanted to save their marriage, but it was Paula's choice and she ended it," a source told Us following the couple's separation announcement.

Another good deed from Spider-Man. After Andrew Garfield's segment with "Batkid" Miles Scott was cut from the 2014 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, the actor made it up to the 5-year-old cancer survivor in more ways than one. In addition to taking Miles to Disneyland on Monday, March 3, multiple sources exclusively tell Us Weekly that Garfield personally invited the kindergartner to the New York City premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The film, which opens in theaters May 2, will premiere in the Big Apple on April 24.
Garfield and Miles were scheduled to present video tribute to superheroes together at the Academy Awards, but were abruptly cut and replaced by Avengers star Chris Evans. The New York Post's Page Six initially reportedly that Garfield was the one who backed out, but the actor's rep, Rupert Fowler, told Us Weekly that wasn't true.
"In full collaboration with the Academy and the show writer, Andrew prepared a segment for the Oscars to honor Miles Scott as the true hero that he is. At some point overnight on Saturday/Sunday morning, it was decided by those running the show that the segment didn't work in the ceremony," Fowler told Us. "They decided to pull it -- Andrew and Miles were equally upset."
To try and make it up to the tiny tot, a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth was organized. "The producers arranged for Miles and his family to visit Disneyland on Monday and Andrew drove down to visit them and to bring Miles a personal gift, Fowler said. "Andrew did the right thing for Batkid and anyone saying otherwise is flat out lying."

Besides both being queens, Gorgo and Cersei have a lot in common: They're both widows, they've both gone through a period of grief or loss, and they both wear armor. They're both incredibly strong women, but in very different ways. And I would imagine Cersei would rather be in Gorgo's position.
Yes. Gorgo is pretty straightforward in that she's committed to her husband, even through death. And she's kind of dictated by her culture, and her strength is drawn from that. From birth, she's known what's required of her, and nothing really changes. And then Cersei is ... My whole theory of Cersei is, with her and Jaime [Lannister], he is kind of her ideal of herself somewhere along the lines. Gorgo's allowed to, for want of a better word, be a man. She's allowed to exercise things she needs to. And Cersei faces more expectations from society where it comes to women. She, at her core, is just fear and paranoia. And that's where she behaves from. And Gorgo doesn't come from that place at all. She's very simple, in the best way.
She's able to think about, "What do my people need? What should I do for my people?"
Gorgo's for the people. Cersei's incredibly selfish. I find her pretty delightful, Cersei. And I kind of understand why she does what she does. And yeah, yeah, this season is pretty much the beginning of her downfall. She's on her way, she's really climbing the stairs, and then she will eventually fall off the edge. Which is exciting! It's endlessly exciting to me. She is just constant change.
( some jaime/cersei season 4 spoilers under the cut...Collapse )
GOD i just love how she understand Cersei SO WELL, and she hasn't even read the books. everything she says about cersei/jaime here is also on point.thank god she was cast as cersei tbh.

There is a new Seth MacFarlane show on Fox this Sunday. But if there was any doubt that Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey is no Family Guy, it is dispelled when the host references the planet Uranus and pronounces it “YOOR-inus.” This new version of Cosmos, which MacFarlane produced, is as earnest as Family Guy, American Dad, et al. are raunchy, but that doesn’t mean it’s not entertaining. It’s gorgeous, it’s absorbing, it’s impassioned, it’s awestruck and awe-inspiring.
But is it necessary? After all, the Carl Sagan original of this documentary guide to the universe is still out there. And it’s not as if the principles of science have drastically changed in a few decades. As new Cosmos host Neil DeGrasse Tyson cheerfully points out at one point, all of human history and knowledge is a few moments’ tick on the galactic calendar.
The docuseries’ debut episode engagingly makes the case for the reboot. First, it uses today’s technical firepower to bring its narrative alive. In a nod to Sagan’s original series, it places us on a CGI spaceship, whizzing through the universe as it visualizes Earth’s cosmic “address” (Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy, Local Group, Virgo Supercluster, Observable Universe). Elsewhere, it integrates playful digital tricks into Tyson’s narration–having an asteroid zip overhead as he walks through a forest and describes the extinction of the dinosaurs, placing him on a seashore as an animated amphibian saunters onto land. Imagination, Tyson says early on, is no substitute for the amazing reality of science, but they work (and play) together well here.

How Paralympic competitions differ from their Olympic counterparts
Beyond the obvious – athletes with paraplegia, missing limbs and visual impairments – one of the biggest differences between the Winter Olympics and the Paralympics is that there is no judged sport in the latter.
No byzantine scoring from panels with previously discredited judges. No chance of a vote-trading scandal. No outrage. It’s just slightly modified hockey and curling games. And fastest time wins ski racing. Okay, that last one is a little more complicated than that. But remember, no judging.
With competition set to get underway Saturday, here is a capsule look at the Paralympic sports.

Way to go to extend the ending!
The Season 7 teaser features Don Draper descending the stairs of a TWA flight onto a deserted tarmac, while Doris Day's "Que Sera, Sera" is heard in the background. Appropriate not only as a herald to the ending of the series, but the fact that the series started filming the final season at Los Angeles International Airport in November -- the same day a shooting in Terminal 3 left a TSA guard dead.
The recent release of the Season 7 Promo poster, which features a graphic by Milton Glaser that bears a distinct likeness to Peter Max and other psychedelic artwork ,suggests that the season will be going full swing into the acid age, from 1966 - 1969.

The film, in theaters March 21st, is based on author Veronica Roth's best-selling trilogy set in a future dystopia where people are split up into five factions. Box office ticket sales are already outpacing the first "Twilight."
Despite the film's reported $85 million production budget, Woodley will earn just $250,000 to $500,000 for the first installment, according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources.

We've all felt for some time that a new Doctor Who spin-off is long overdue, we even came up with some suggestions of our own. Just a few years back we were spoilt with Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures all broadcasting in the same year as the main series. Nowadays though, with the gaps between seasons, it sometimes feels like we're suffering a real Who drought.
So you can image how excited we all were when regular contributor Wil discovered a brand new Doctor Who spin-off in the works that is approved by the BBC. It's called A Wild Endeavour, and we sent Wil on his own endeavour to find out more.
A Wild Endeavour focuses on the beginnings of the Doctor and the Master before they had their names and titles as the 'hero' and 'villain'. The characters are to be stripped back to their basics, so the audience can see them develop in a new unique way, to become the characters we’ve seen in Doctor Who for the last fifty years. Through this we will gain a proper explanation about what happened to the characters prior to the show’s beginning.

Michael Fassbender + Marion Cotillard + "Macbeth" = ticket sold as far we're concerned, and while we can't wait to see the result (it's one our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2014... if it gets finished and released in time) we remain very curious about the approach. The Shakespeare play is one of the most frequently performed and adapted, though not so much for the big screen, and the Bard has always proven flexible to filmmakers who push his material to the edge. However, what we weren't perhaps expecting is that "the Scottish play" will have French flavor.

Praying she brings her A+ game to this. Lady Macbeth is such an iconic character, I don't want her to be ruined by poor acting.
Katie Holmes is going from Capeside to the East Side.
The Dawson’s Creek actress has been cast in an untitled high society drama pilot for ABC from Behind the Candelabra writer Richard LaGravenese, EW has confirmed.
Holmes will star opposite Rufus Sewell in this drama about opposing couples living in New York City. She will play Ann, a well-bred and educated woman who runs a philanthropic foundation with her husband. After Philip (Sewell) and his wife Margot make a bet to destroy Ann’s seemingly perfect marriage, Ann and Philip engage in a rivalry. The two equally-matched, powerful socialites play out their obsessive attraction and seduction via their manipulation of others. The role of Margot has yet to be cast. Taylor Hackford (Ray) will direct the pilot.
If the drama were to be picked up to series, it would be Holmes’ first regular TV role since Dawson’s Creek, though she has made appearances in How I Met Your Mother, The Kennedys and Eli Stone.
On the film front, Holmes will play a not-so-dainty schoolteacher in the upcoming film Miss Meadows, premiering at next month’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Aaron Ashmore (I Put A Hit On You) has booked the male lead in ABC’s Agatha pilot from ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Co.
It centers on a former convict-turned-big-city criminologist who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a perplexing disappearance.
Ashmore will play Jimmy McAuliffe, a handsome, good humored and good natured ‘meat & potatoes’ guy who is a beat cop with the Philly PD and lives in the shadow of his father.
Ashmore, repped by APA, and Paul Nicholls at Artistry Management, appeared on SyFy’s Wharehouse 13, and had recurring roles on USA’s In Plain Sight, SyFy’s Lost Girl and Smallville.
I really want this to go to series. <3
