I'm going to be getting a red Samsung Juke cellphone within the next few days, once it comes in the mail. It's one of those music phones with a built in mp3 player, but not much else. I'm honestly, probabaly one of the last middle class American teenagers to get a cell phone. It's almost a necessity now that my parents have decided to do away with our land line and that I'm going away to college.
The Silence in the Library was one of my favorite episodes this season. I wouldn't mind living in that library, much better than mine. The Doctor is right, nothing can ever replace books.

The first Dollhouse trailer was released today, go watch it. As if I couldn't be more excited for this show. Although I have been hearing disappointing news that it'll be a midseason replacement show, which means we'll have to wait until January 2009. The good news is that FOX has ordered 13 episodes, hopefully they wont screw it up like Firefly.
So, I got this idea from
denorios. I always like to get to know the folks on my f-list better. Here's a little survey thing, if you'd like to fill it out.

Okay, so today sucked. First I found out that Delaware's financial aid package contains only loans. Aside from the merit scholarship, I get nothing, not even work study. Apparently my parents make too much money, which is completely false.
Plus we lost BrainBusters today by forty points. Meaning, my parents are going to have to pay even more money to get me a laptop now.
And I'm sick and not going to school tomorrow.
On the bright side, I've got Lovejoy dvds from the library.

Hello, everyone.
I'm back in the States from Ireland now. Ireland was fantastic. I wasn't the hugest fan of Dublin, mostly because I was exhausted and I'm not a big fan of cities in the first place. Plus it rained, only when we were in Dublin. I loved the Long Room at Trinity College. It's the most beautiful library I've ever seen.
The rest of Ireland we saw was beautiful, rolling green hills with loads of sheep. I'll post some pictures when I have more time.
As for college, it looks like I'll end up at the University of Delaware because they're the only one who wont make me take out 30 grand a year in loans. It's a good school, esp. for Chemical Engineering.

I got in!
I got into University of Delaware Honors Program with a $9000/yr merit scholarship (don't know need yet)
I got into RPI with an unknown amount of money.
Plus, Ireland is amazing.

So, we won BrainBusters against Penn Manor. It was 540 to 250 or something thereabouts. The funny thing is what happened during the Bonus Brainbuster. The way that round goes is that before the commercial break we are given the category and then we wager and then when they come back from break we get the question and then answer it. Well, what my team does is we all try to guess what the answer is from the category alone. Last match the category was Contemporary Authors and one of us guessed Salman Rushdie, which was the actual answer. This match the category was Greek Mythology and I guessed Sisyphus, also the actual answer.
So yes, we are so good that we can get the answer without even knowing the question (not that we're cocky or anything). Of course, our odds are better with four people guessing. It is really funny when it happens though.
In two weeks I'll be flying over the Atlantic on my way to Ireland. It'll be amazing.

So, my dad's sort of upset because the school sent a letter home saying I was fat (okay so the words they used were 'at risk of being overweight') and completely ignored the fact that they measured my height wrong and said I was two inches shorter than I am. Why do they even send the letters home? It annoys me.
Plus they also sent a letter home saying I can't see. We had to go to the eye doctor only to find out that the insurance company dropped our vision coverage and sort of forgot to tell us (and everyone else). I also need new glasses, due to my increased nearsightedness (meaning I'm practically blind).
On the bright side, no school until 2008 (interest free). Plus, I'm going to see Sweeney Todd once we get to Michigan.

There is a very good chance school will be closed tomorrow, ice storm, you see. We could get up to half an inch of ice, which would be bad. Oddly enough, the ice is supposed to stop very soon after three (which is when we get out of school).
I'm getting very excited for college. All of my applications are in, even if I think my transcript for UDel got lost in the mail because they still don't have it and it's been over a month since I handed in the forms at my school. In any case, I'm done until FAFSA and all that financial aid crap. Honestly, how insane are college prices now? Plus, how much does it suck that your aid package goes down every year even though tuition goes up?
As if I didn't need another thing to worry about, I hear RPI is giving provisional admissions to some people, saying they need a college-level Calculus and Chemistry class and making them enter in Spring, even though they took AP Calc and AP Chem. How does that make any kind of sense? On the website it says you only need through Pre-Calc and it mentions nothing about having to take any college level courses. WTF, RPI?
The more I learn about college admissions, the more I think it's completely arbitrary.
I swear, college is going to kill me before I even get there.

Things I hate:
-watching myself on TV (it's always weird)
-SAT subject tests, I beat the Chemistry one to a pulp although I think the Math might have beat me. Although, I wish I didn't have to take either. Couldn't a college just look at my AP score and see that I'm awesome at Chem? No, I have to take another stupid test! At least I'm done with them until the AP tests in May.
-( Last week's House )
-That my school might not send in my University of Delaware stuff before the deadline (even though I handed in my application more than the 10 school days in advance that they request), in which case I can't get priority scholarship consideration and into the Honors program.
-Lifetime, for only showing the last two episodes of Blood Ties online and for abandoning it altogether, then having the guts to say that they have made no decision concerning season 3.
Things that I love:
-Grapefruit juice
-Chuck

"You Kill Me": great CSI episode, or the greatest?
I saw Love in the Time of Cholera, good movie. It would have been better if there weren't some ladies sitting behind me who gasped and "tut"-ed dissaprovingly everytime there was a naked person on the screen (which was a lot).
Good news, Cedar Cliff's BrainBusters team doesn't look so good this year. *cheers* From their performance in the first round, should we go up against them, we have a very good chance of beating them.

We beat Trinity and Bishop McDevitt in Quiz Bowl, supposedly, so far, the A-team is doing pretty awesome. We're on track to beat Harrisburg Academy's record of most points scored in a season, in all but one match we've scored over 200 points and we've gotten very close to 300 in several games.
I don't have to go back to school until Tuesday. Thanksgiving break is a beautiful thing.

I'm tearing out my hair over applying to colleges. Should it be this stressful? No. Am I able to turn even the most simple things into end-of-the-world ordeals? Yes. Is this process much more complicated than it should be? YES.
And I've only applied to one school (University of Delaware). I still need to apply to RPI, Carnegie Mellon, and Northwestern. Basically, I only stand a chance of getting into RPI and Udel but I really, really want into Carnegie Mellon (Northwestern is my snowball's chance in hell school).
In other, academic related news, my weighted GPA this marking period is 102%. You'd think with a grade like that my overall GPA would go up enough to make me go up in the ranks, nope, still 43. Go me, I've climbed 55 spots in class rank since freshman year.
Anyone else loving House this season? Most of the interviewees are awesome, except Thirteen.

Things that are awesome:
-There's a guy at Arby's with a nametag that says "Slave 1". It had me giggling under my breath for a solid five minutes, because I can imagine that it is very true.
-Quantum Leap, as a whole, and the M.I.A. in particular. I've seen the ending several times and it's still incredibly sad.
-My grades, seriously, I don't know how my courseload is so much lighter when I'm taking more honors classes this year. I've got a 98 in Calc, 96 in Fibers and a 102 in Latin IV. It almost makes me feel guilty, like I'm not working hard enough. I almost can't wait until college, where I'll actually have to work hard.
-My new shoes, they're tweed.
Things that are not awesome:
-Wegman's being out of Salt and Vinegar chips. They're always out of Salt and Vinegar chips, you'd think they'd get the hint and order more. Salt and Vinegar chips are the only kind of chip worth eating, chips just aren't any good unless they make your tounge go numb.
-Applying to colleges, It's driving me insane. Plus there's the whole thing going on about the reeducation thing going on at University of Delaware, where I may be going next year.

Quiz Bowl: we beat Boiling Springs by a 260 to -5 (I really felt bad for Boiling Springs) and Ship by 235 to 40. So this season's off to a good start so far.

Did you know that supposedly there isn't a single documented case of a lifeboat acutally saving somebody's life on the Great Lakes? Random fact.
Well, I tried out for the Quiz Bowl team and ended up on the A team. That's a good thing, it means that I get to compete and it actually counts. Matches that are played by the B team don't count. What is a little funny is that the A team is the exact same team as the BrainBusters team. The only downside is that every single match is the same time that I work.
It probabaly makes me a geek that I find my Gov teacher screaming "WE HAVE A CONSERVATIVE COURT" at a student who was trying to claim otherwise for five minutes one of the most amusing things that I saw all day.
( Criminal Minds, CSI, Bones, Eureka )

First two weeks of school went just fine. This year is actually seeming to be easier than the last, even with my extra honors course (Latin hardly counts as honors really).
I'm joining our school's Quiz Bowl team, probabaly on the B-team. It sort of sucks because competitions are on the same days that I work. So, I'll have to switch with someone a lot. But, it still sounds like it would be fun. I am, in fact, geeky enough to think answering questions is fun (which it really is).

I can't believe that school starts up tomorrow already. I rather enjoy being lazy and accomplishing nothing for days on end. Sadly tomorrow I shall have to get up at six in the morning and take the bus to school (I HATE my bus).
At least I'm a senior. Which means only one more year left until I leave high school for good, college better be a whole lot better.
I've gotten hooked on Burn Notice, which is a great show. Every episode has all these little things you never would think, like that you can find out if there is an optical bug trained on you by taking a picture (the laser light will appear in the pic) and how to get last second reservations at a fancy restaraunt or how to crash a party. And, of course, Jeffery Donovan is amazing.
Honestly, I'm really only posting to show off my Fargo icon.

* THE INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Leave me a comment saying anything random--like your favorite kind of sandwich or something you remember from long ago or something you bet I didn't know. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. It will go on and on and on and that is what makes it a meme!
The questions from
eldritchhobbit
1. If you could walk into any single X-Files episode and become part of the action, which one would you choose? I would have to say 'Three of a Kind' because Las Vegas with the Gunmen sounds like too much fun to pass up. Plus, I'm a sucker for conspiracies.
2. What form do you think your Patronus would take? Probably a cat, I'm very much a cat person and I'm sure my cat Buster would be able to give some Dementors a run for their money.
3. If you could choose one fictional character to have as a teacher/mentor, who would you pick? Dr. Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap, for one he has six or seven Doctorates and would definitely know loads about any subject. Also, he's fairly easygoing and a genuinely good person so he would probably make a good teacher.
4. What is your ideal "comfort food"? Any type of Olga, it's a type of wrap from Olga's (a chain from where my Grandma lives in Lansing) with this delicious Olga bread wrapped around some type of filling (the best is lamb with Olgasauce). It's just so good and reminds me of my Grandparents.
5. If you could go on the TARDIS as a companion, with which Doctor would you prefer to go? Eight, his companions get to have some pretty awesome adventures. Plus I think he would be fun to hang around with.
