"A platform for all people, both able-bodied and those with disabilities, to showcase their talents and abilities, to raise funds for the less fortunate amongst us and in the process, enrich the lives of all by increasing self-worth, developing skills, and fostering the spirit of sharing and giving."
http://www.anationinconcert.org/Admittingly, when Dave_sg_888 told me abt the ANationInConcert event, I didnt really care too much for the event.
I was thinking, "okay, so it's for charity and it's a platform for ppl with disabilities to perform with ppl without."
Fact is, David is a really nice guy and his fervor for the charity event is also readily evident.
That was enough for me to chio frens to attend this event, and when quizzed on why was I promoting the event, I said charity lar blahblahblah
Some friends said that they didnt believe in the cause, and I thought that was fine really. Honesty above all.
Other friends were curious or wanted to help, and so the bunch of us:
Keith Lunasea, Roel (Andy yc, I gave your donated ticket to Roel), Jason Uber, CC, Oliveroils, Peptide+I, KelvinChang, Maurice+Nigel, Steven Supra+Kelvin, Andrew ragnarok, Jeff wodypeck & Kelvin pu
attended the show not knowing what to expect.
Jason Uber queried "You mean the normal people act like disabled in the show ar?" :O LOL
Oh yea, Mike conan volunteered to help and he became part of the production team ;)
In the lighting, you'd not be able to tell that most of the people on stage were actually people who were, well, different.
(The participating organisations are Association for Persons with Special Needs, Handicaps Welfare Association, The Singapore Association For the Deaf, Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and so forth.)
It tugged at my heartstrings when some performers had to be led away by the stage crew, because it was only then did I realised that they were actually blind.
(I got programme booklets for everyone but I only looked at the pictures. Hehe.)
I thought the Wheelchair Ballroom Dancing stole the show with the cast in glitz&glamour, along with Madam Manta (Christina Sergeant) 's stunning performance. My frens loved Hannah Hammerhead (Karen Tan of Power98).
I thought about what the show meant to the audience, the people behind the scene and the performers. It probably meant different things to diff ppl (Duh myself.) Mother of a performing child, a volunteer with a big heart, or maybe just to add to one's resume. Whatever the reasons may be, all had worked together to put up a good show for everyone.
It was only when the show come to an end, when the lightings were up, that their disabilities were more visibile.
Damn the video that was shown @the end of the show. It was so touching lar. Gota control myself from tearing siah.
Looking forward to the ANIC in 2010! :)
