| Getting to Docklands |
[Aug. 30th, 2008| 06:46 pm] |
|
Next Saturday, I'm going to an event that's being held (for some bizarre reason) at the Subaru dealership at 99 Lorimer St, Docklands. I have no clue how to get there. I can get to Spencer St station (or any other station on the Craigieburn line), but is there a tram I can take from there that can get me to anywhere nearby? I've been squinting at tram lines and timetables for half an hour, and can't really figure out anyhting useful. I can't walk far. Thanks! |

| Re: Moving |
[Aug. 30th, 2008| 04:08 pm] |
| [ | feeling |
| | bruised yellowfaced, courtesy them missing wisdom teeth | ] | Anyone have a clue what trailer or van hire costs are like for a move from Adelaide to Melbourne, late September? Or suggestions of who to go with?
Calling around to check atm and have emailed several places, but it's late on a Saturday so not much info available just yet.
Medium tv, small fridge, couple boxes of books, clothes, kitchenware... a good chunk of that will likely be stored in the car instead. Queen sized mattress is possible but not completely necessary. Thinking an enclosed trailer to keep things dry.
Also, any suggestions on utilities - electricity & gas, phone & internet - for the new place in Melbourne?
Suburb is Beaumaris. Eligible for that pensioner discount super-cheap line with Telstra, I believe, though I was thinking all up naked DSL might be more cost effective.
Edit: Oh, also, thanks for all the help and tips earlier regarding moving. We got the third place we applied for after viewing a good dozen, and it beat the first two in both cost & quality. |

Some new people are moving into the block of flats where I rent and they've been taking up other people's allocated parking spaces (including mine on a couple of occasions) to move their furniture in. And I can deal with that happening occasionally.
But today they had a huge moving truck blocking off access to the residents' car park. When I politely enquired about whether I could drive through to park my car, they responded to me very rudely - "Look lovey, I can let ya in but once I do I ain't movin' this truck if you wanna come back out again. So whatcha gonna do? Keep sittin' there complainin' or go park out on the street? We gots important work ta do."
Um what? I pay $1000 a month in rent, which includes the use of a personal allocated car space, so that I DON'T have to go park outside on the street.
I'd like to mention that if the movers had simply moved their truck forward two metres, there would be ample space for other residents to drive around it into the car park. I wish I was joking.
I asked whether they had permission from the body corporate to completely block off residents' access to their entitled car parks, and got told, "That ain't none of my goddamn business."
So I literally had to reverse out of the block and spend ten minutes finding an on-street parking space in a very narrow street. I'll admit I'm more than a little pissed about this - I'm sorry, but I don't think he was "more entitled" to park in the block than I was, and I shouldn't have had to waste so much time when ordinarily it takes me twenty seconds to park. I'm fairly sure that I am in the right here, so I'd like to issue a formal complaint - I'm just not sure to who, though. Do I take it up with the body corporate or the moving company? |

| Lost Kitty :( |
[Aug. 30th, 2008| 11:46 am] |
Our 10 month old male neuter cat has been missing since about 3pm on Friday from Seddon, around Williamstown Rd, and um... I'm all out of ideas about what to do. Walking the streets shaking a box of cat food doesn't seem to be doing much.
He's not usually outside for more than a supervised 1/2 hour at a time, so the fact he's now been missing overnight is a bit of a worry. And as a crazy overprotective cat owner, I'm kind of freaking out.
We're making signs to put up and thinking of doing a letterbox drop, he's registered with central animal records and has a tag with his name and my boyfriend's phone number on it, but.. is there anything else I should be doing, anyone else I should be calling?
In the one in a kagillion chance someone here has seen him, he's blonde ginger and white, with a squinty right eye when he gets nervous (cat herpes!), a teal collar and a red tag. His name is Ernest.

he's a lot fatter and more adult looking now, this is maybe 4 months ago. And he doesn't have the bottom quarter of a random photo attached to him either... ahhh, my photobucket skills leave a lot to be desired....
Any help appreciated!

| intro // Jordi Labanda |
[Aug. 24th, 2008| 12:34 am] |
Hello, I've just joined this community. I'm a twenty-something girl. When I find free time off work, I love to picture the concerts I'm goin to. Also, I tend to express the fangirl in me with drawing my fave rockers&punkers. But I'm also enjoying nude painting & fashion illustration.
( se pictures )
As for the last, I've always enjoyed the artwork of Jordi Labanda. He's able to draw such diverse characters, whether it's the skinny supermodel from Sweden, toned boys from Argentina or dapper Hanseatic gentlemen. Everything he draws is done with style and a talent for details like exquisite tailoring, complicated coiffures or ornate accessoires.
 ( +4 ) More of his work at www.jordilabanda.com
So, which illustrators of fashion & style do you favor? And most importantly, could u recommend some books to place on a b-day whishlist? |

| If you like reading books and you frequent the Carlton area... |
[Aug. 30th, 2008| 12:55 am] |
You just might be in luck!
I have on me $155 store credit with Book Affair, the (in my opinion, best) second hand book store in Carlton and I am selling that off for $100. Although the store credit is written in my name, I have checked with the store owner and he confirms that it can be used by anyone. I would use it myself but I'm moving currently and the last thing I need are more books!
Novels are generally in excellent condition and paperbacks go for $8-15, hardcover = $20ish. So if you're an avid book reader and you don't mind meeting up in the CBD over the weekend (Sat/Sun/Mon), give me a call/text/email/reply here and we'll set up a time and place to exchange the deets.
Book Affair is located at the corner of Lygon and Elgin St, quite literally where the 'Little Italy' strip of Lygon begins.
Call/text me at 0431 573 742 or email me at nerak.aa[a]gmail.com. Awkward advertising ends now. |

| death becomes her |
[Aug. 29th, 2008| 09:10 pm] |
so I had the weirdest fucking day today
I went to an alpaca farm to help out
I helped heard them to different paddocks.
there were ducks, geese, baby alpacas, and life seemed great
then.....
we found a dead alpaca who's head had been caught in a fence,
so on this first day of alpaca farm life for me....
I ended up heaving this dead alpaca onto a blue wagon and carting it across the paddock to be burried.
The whole thing was one of the most surreal events in my entire life
It's body was so huge, it's eyes were open, this yellow goop of bile and insides was leaking from its mouth. It was so floppy, it's neck bent completely the wrong way when the lady and I put it into the wagon. The lady asked me to read the serial number on it's tag so we could identify it correctly.
83143- aka Iris........RIP iris, I never got to meet you, but you taught me alot about myself and about life/death.
Your death was intense. |
