Moving to the Blue Mountains
[info]dis_senter and I are moving to the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains is an absolutely gorgeous National Park with an area of over 247000 hectares. My current user pic was taken there.

We found a place to rent on Wednesday and we're moving in two weeks. I am beyond excited.

These photos don't really do the mountains justice but they can give you an idea.

Waterfalls like this are all throughout the park. One summer [info]dis_senter and I spent a week roaming the bush and swimming in every waterfall we could find.

Here are the three sisters. They always remind me of me and my two sisters closest in age.

Anyway, our new home has space for guests and is quite beautiful. There are two north facing bedrooms with a small sunroom attached. They are drenched in sunlight and should be nice and warm. There is carpet in the bedrooms but the rest of the house has polished floorboards. There is a fireplace in the loungeroom and the kitchen is one of those old fashioned rustic ones, it is really very beautiful. There is another larger sunroom out the back looking out onto a really cute garden.

I'm planning a veggie garden and [info]dis_senter is planning the bush walks. We will end up living an ideal 18th century life. Reading, writing, walking, cooking, gardening. I'm also thinking about buying a piano as I've always wanted to learn how to play.

Supposedly, there is a large lesbian community up there too and they have lesbian bushwalking groups and things so that will be something to look into.

But I'm so excited. Living in the Blue Mountains has been my dream since [info]dis_senter and I spent that week exploring in 2004. So, yay, for me.

wow. My jealousy is infinite. If you don't mind me asking, how will you afford this? To be able to read, write, walk, garden without paid work? I ask because that's why I don't do something similar - I want to know how you got around it. It's inspiring. Do you support yourself with your writing? You don't have to answer those questions if they're the kind of questions you don't like answering.

I don't mind you asking at all.

I work as well. I've been nannying and babysitting and doing some casual child care work here in Sydney and I'm hoping to do similar work in the blue mountains. I earn barely enough to live on here and that is one of the main reasons we are moving. The rent is SO much cheaper in the blue mountains it is unbelievable.

I wish I could support myself with my writing though!! That would be an ideal life. Though I have to admit that I do really enjoy playing with kids and being paid for it.

Hey, if you ever want a holiday in the blue mountains you'd be quite welcome. The house is SO much bigger than the expensive shoebox [info]dis_senter and I currently share and would easily fit a couple of guests.

That sounds beautiful, and I may well take you up on it

You mentioned a while back there is a women's group meeting on some Sundays at the Women's Library? Is that still happening? Which Sundays? I was thinking of coming along.

Please do. :)

Yeah, I started a Feminist Collective but with moving and everything it has kind of been put on hold. As soon as I'm settled in the Blue Mountains I'll be starting it up again and I'll let you know.

That would be lovely. Thank you.

These people might be able to help you out with picking things to put into your garden. Eden Seeds do organic/biodynamic seeds in traditional varieties that aren't really available anymore, and others that are more drought resistant.

I've bought seeds from them before for my grandmother, and she's been thrilled with the results, after going on about how tomatoes just don't taste the same these days.

You should probably be able to get them to send you up some proper actual European strawberries too. Grandma and I lamented at length the fact that Eden Seeds won't send strawberry plants up this far. We were so sad.
