Tifa grew up in the village of Nibelheim. As the mayor's daughter, she was both popular and respected, and when she was younger, she had a trio of guy friends that she hung out with all the time. That all began to change after her mother fell ill and died when she was about eight. She thought to herself that since people died on Mt. Nibel, if she climbed the mountain she could go see her mother. Cloud, who she'd never known well, was the only one to stay with her and try to save her when she missed her step and fell. Tifa doesn't remember the incident very well, but afterwards she found herself less interested in her usual friends and more curious about the boy next door. Her father blamed Cloud for the whole thing, though, so they didn't actually become close friends until they came to Hogwarts.
Within their first year they soon became friends with the more outgoing Aeris and Zack, who was a year older but easily less mature than the other three. He was always dragging the others along on various exploits, but took Cloud in particular under his wing. When he disappeared at the end of their third year, it wasn't long before Cloud followed, and both girls were devastated by their departure.
Tifa's feelings for Cloud only strengthened during his absense, and by the time he returned halfway through her fifth year, she was sure it was love. He was never far from her thoughts, but despite her strong and optimistic facade, for a long time she was too shy to tell him without some sort of assurance that he felt the same way for her. She told herself she would only have to wait a little longer for an answer, often enough that it became a sort of mantra. She's since worked up the courage, however, and though it took Cloud some time to work out his own feelings and he spent a month apart from her in St. Mungo's, the two of them are now inseparable.

 | Chizuru Honshou: In spite of the occasional grope and relatively frequent oggling, Tifa likes Chizuru. Largely this is because Chizuru is someone who tries to help out whenever there's drama going around, and even if Chizuru does add to the drama herself fairly often, Tifa appreciates that she lends other people a hand. Madam Prefect can't do everything on her own after all. |
 | Ryu Hayabusa: Ryu is one of a number of students (mostly boys) who confide in Tifa when something is bothering them. Unlike a lot of them, though, Tifa feels she doesn't really have to worry about Ryu. She's even confided in him a little herself when she got into an argument with her father about Cloud. All in all, he's a pretty stable person, and she likes talking to him; she also thinks it's a little funny how dense he is. |
 | Aeris Gainsborough: [formerly _reachforastar] Tifa's best friend. They met in their first year of Hogwarts and quickly became close friends. Their personalities tend to balance each other out, Aeris being able to cheer Tifa up when she's down and get her to relax, while Tifa does her best to keep her friend anchored and out of trouble. Aeris is her confidant, for a long time the only one she could talk to about her feelings for Cloud. Aeris, however, doesn't always seem to return the trust. Lately Tifa feels they've been drifting apart. |
 | Cloud Strife: [formerly striven_soldier] Tifa has been in love with Cloud for years, though she only realized it during his year-and-a-half-long absense. On his return, he seemed more closed to her than he had been, due to a curse on his arm and the guilt that he hadn't been able to bring Zack back with him. Though he tried not to let her close, Tifa persisted, and when at last he began to open up to her, she managed to work up the courage to tell him how she felt. He didn't respond right away, and his curse put him in St. Mungo's for a month, but Tifa's now happy to call him her boyfriend. He's very protective of her, and though he remains shy around other people, he'll open up to Tifa, something which never fails to delight her. |
 | Samus Aran: Tifa lent Samus an ear when she was having difficulties with her mother and didn't have anyone to confide in, and she's since become a confidante for the older girl. Even though she doesn't want to trouble Samus with her own problems, Tifa does see her as a good--if not close--friend and is happy to be dragged along to parties and invite the other girl to hang out with her. |
 | Zack Forester: [dropped character] Cloud's best friend and the reason the blond went missing for so long. Needless to say, Tifa isn't too thrilled with him, and though she is glad that he's back safe and sound, she isn't sure she'll ever be able to forgive him. With Aeris having moved on in his absense, though, she does feel sorry for him, and wishes he'd be back to his old genki self. She misses the days when he would get the four of them involved in some crazy plot or another. |

 | Yachiru Kusajishi: Tifa first met Yachiru after she had gotten carried away in sparring with her roommate Yuffie, and Tifa ended up hauling the two girls to the hospital wing. While Yuffie very much resented her for this, Yachiru was much more open to getting to know her, though Tifa is at a loss as to what to make of the strangely violent and cheerful girl. Yachiru insists on calling her "Boobs-senpai," even though she seems to harbor a certain respect for the older girl. |
 | Mugen: Mugen is on Tifa's list of problem children whom she needs to keep an eye on. She generally likes him all right, and enjoys teasing him, but sometimes he just gets on her nerves. A swift kick to the head is the first solution that comes to mind with Mugen-related problems. |
