The NEW NW Kerbey Lane is now OPEN FOR BUSINESS at its new location!!
13435 N Highway 183, Suite 415
It's at 183 and Anderson Mill Rd., behind the Texas Roadhouse.
The ranch house by Oak Knoll is no longer open. :(
We're in a brand new space, and I know plenty of you hardcore Austinites would like to weigh in on this rather severe change.
Feel free to give us any constructive criticism you have to give, though I do ask that you visit the new store before making any criticism/assumptions. :) I'll take any serious concerns/complaints straight to my managers, this is a whole new ball game for us too!!
The rumor that Kerbey has gone corporate is false, it's the same owners across the board, this is just a new frontier for all of us.
I hope to see you over pancakes, or *cough* across the bar *cough* very, very soon!!

| Microchips for pets? |
[21 Aug 2008|12:37am] |
Best place in town (preferably north) to get a microchip implant for a cat?
Not two weeks ago, one of my two cats disappeared without a trace. As if that wasn't heartbreaking enough, on the 31st, I'm headed to China for three weeks and have to leave my remaining cat behind with a friend in the city. I've vowed to get him a microchip in case he freaks out in the new situation and tries to go explore like his brother did. But my time is limited and my Google skills are failing me. Any recommendations? Cheap would be nice but I'll pay whatever I have to so that my kitty is as safe as can be while I'm gone.
Please help! Any and all advice is appreciated!

| cat sitter for the holidays |
[20 Aug 2008|11:25pm] |
Does anyone know of someone who does cat sitting, for a fair price, that is willing to do long term (possibly 38 days, sadly) and will schedule far in advanced?
I want to make sure my kittens will be fed, watered, and have their litter taken care of while I'm out of town. I'd like to stay under 20$ a visit. The girl I use for weekend trips charges 18$ but she's already booked for the holidays :(!
Last Christmas I kept them at a center in Georgetown for a week which cost far too much and they came home with all sorts of illnesses. Since I only wound up keeping them there because I scheduled barely a month in advanced I want to make sure that doesn't happen again.

| One-time maid service |
[20 Aug 2008|10:45pm] |
Recommendations please for a one-time (or perhaps long-cycle recurring) maid service. I need a thorough make-ready type of cleaning for a small 2/2 house and a studio apartment to include pulling the fridge and stove for cleaning under/behind. I can supply cleaning products or the service can bring their own. I do have cleaning tools (vac, mops).
Rosedale area. Price is of some concern but thorough work is more important.
Thanks.

| Theatrical Performance Spaces? |
[20 Aug 2008|10:40pm] |
If someone wanted to produce a play in Austin, how might that person go about doing it?
Are there performance spaces available for plays, as opposed to one-night band gigs? Or are there theater companies around that a person could submit a play to in hopes of getting it produced?
I'm looking to finish writing the musical I started in college, and am hoping that once it's completed, I'll actually be able to put it on somewhere.

Just wondering where everyone usually goes to get their groceries for cheap pantry/fridge basics and where are the best values for bulk items like dried beans and lentils and stuff? Randall, Wheatsville, HEB/Central, Whole Foods, Sams Club or Cosco, or other?

Does anyone have a full or partial bottle of Special Effects Cupcake Pink or Atomic Pink, or know where I can get it locally in the next two days? (Tried Hot Topic and Wet Salon already)
My hair thanks you!
Edit: Found it at Secret Oktober; they seem to have a decent selection, so that's good to know for you other SFX fans.

| Borrowing / renting a Segway? |
[20 Aug 2008|04:12pm] |
I want to rent or borrow a Segway for a day, for my office, so everyone can tool around the building or downtown on it.
The two Segway places in Austin don't do private or corporate rentals (any more?), even though it says they do on their web sites. We've called them both and they both say the web sites are wrong.
Anyone know of a place that will rent? Or someone with one that would let us borrow it (for a fee) for around eight hours on a Tuesday? We're a real company, with offices downtown, and ~30 responsible people, many of whom probably wouldn't actually work up the nerve to try it out.

[20 Aug 2008|01:51pm] |
Does anyone have a reputable GP in South/Central (MoPac area-ish) that: 1) doesn't prescribe antibiotics for everything 2) amenable to alternative medical practices 3) treats their patients like humans instead of cattle 3) doesn't charge an arm to have a leg looked at
cheers!

| Hair stylists |
[20 Aug 2008|10:22am] |
So I've been going to my current hairstylist for about 6 years. She hasn't been the greatest at giving me the look that I want, but I go to her because my mom and sisters do and it's not too expensive. I give her ideas out of magazines or I bring photos in of haircuts I want and they NEVER turn out the same.
Anyway, I'm looking to get my hair trimmed and get a new set of bangs(my current ones have been growing for the last 3+ months). Now I know that hairstylists don't charge you for the amount of hair they cut, that it's one flat rate, but $60 to do that little amount of work is too much especially if it's not done right. By the way I'm saving my hair for Locks of Love which will be at an Alopecia Benefit sometime next year...I think February-ish. So, I really can't do much to my hair other than bangs.
ANYWAY--- I want bangs like Audrey Hepburn in the first part of this photo. So can anyone recommend someone that will achieve this look without breaking the bank. I'm willing to travel no further than 183 and 360...I live off of 290 close to Dripping Springs.

| PSA: Austinites - Big Benefit Bake Sale at Redbud Dog Park |
[20 Aug 2008|09:42am] |
|
So, here's the skinny. Anybody who takes their dog to a local dog park on a regular basis ends up making the acquaintance if not the friendship of some of the other dog people. It's just the way these things go. So, when I ran into a group of 3 women I've known for the last couple of years in a casual way and they told me their story, I promised I would blog about it in the hopes that some of you would come on down to Redbud Isle Dog Park this Fri, Sat, or Sun from 8:30 - 1pm and buy some baked goods.( Here's what it's for... )

| mario kart? |
[20 Aug 2008|09:49am] |
|
I've decided that Mario kart for the Wii would be a good birthday present for my boyfriend. Apparently it's one of those harder to find games. I went to a couple stores to look for it yesterday unsuccessfully. I'm planning on calling around today to see if I can find anyone who has it in stock, but there are probably at least 100 stores in the Austin area that carry it. Does anyone out there have any insider information on places to know when their shipments will come in? Have you seen any stores that consistently have it in stock? Thanks in advance!

| large scale composting |
[19 Aug 2008|09:22pm] |
I teach at a middle school in RRISD, but it is located in North Austin. Some other teachers and I are extremely interested in starting a cafeteria composting program with the kids. We are hoping to get grant money to pay for all the supplies and materials needed. Most of us have personal composting experience, but we are doing some research on composting on a much larger scale.
So, I am looking for resources/ideas. Is anyone else doing this in town? Know of any "compost experts" who might want to come speak to/demonstrate for middle schoolers? Ideas for where to buy the things we would need (bins, worms, etc) that are cheap/would cut us a deal since it's for school?
Also, my prinicipal is concerned that there might be restrictions with the composting due to health issues/rodents. She asked us to make sure that we are "allowed" to compost before we write the grant. Where would I find out about any such restrictions? I don't believe my school is in the city limits of either Round Rock or Austin, so I'm not sure who is "in charge" of us.
Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, concerns would be great. We're really excited to get this project off the ground but we want to think it through thoroughyl and troubleshoot any potential problems beforehand.
Thanks!

| $525/mo apartment for students, right next to UT and ACC |
[19 Aug 2008|02:56pm] |
|
I posted about this at the end of July, and I have been thoroughly unlucky in finding someone to take this lease through ads on craigslist and facebook marketplace.
It's a room in the Abbey house, a small apartment building (or 'residence hall,' if you please) near MLK and Guadalupe. The room is large and has a private bathroom. The first floor of the building has a kitchen that all residents share. There are only about 12 residents, so it's a homey kind of place. It's advertised as a place for students, but you do not HAVE to be a student. It is, however, a smoke-free building.
The lease begins on August 24th, or you could move in after that, but that's when the first rent is due, I believe. I am living in Fort Worth now, and it will literally kill me to spend $525 a month on a room I'm not using, which is what my other option is.
So please help avoid my death and pass the word on!

| Pups for adoption |
[19 Aug 2008|01:33pm] |
My friend Jordan just had a litter of new pups for whom she is trying to find suitable homes:

if there is anyone on the community interested in adopting they are approximately 9 weeks old and will likely get to a relatively calm mid-size of~50 lbs (don't know the father but based on the Mom we are guessing Chow + Golden + Lab mix)...
Just post your contact info or contact her directly @ audri belle at hot mail dot com (all one word).

| LCRA/ TX Parks & Wildlife in Austin |
[19 Aug 2008|11:02am] |
Posting for a friend of mine who is trying to find an internship with either of these places. She's in a really good spot right now where she can work unpaid, she just wants some experience before she graduates. She's trying to figure out which might be better/lenient with school hours and if one is more pleasant to work for.
Does any one know someone she can talk to or have any experience working at either place?
TIA

| Mom, birthday, olympics? |
[19 Aug 2008|09:38am] |
Mom's addicted to the olympics. Mom's birthday's today. Mom's children have forgotten this.
Are there any (somewhat nice, not entirely sports-bar) places that are playing the Olympics, and maybe could be a good place for dinner?
Thanks for any suggestions, maybe this place doesn't exist, except in my fevered imagination...
(alternately, I'll put out the standard "desperate plea to Austin Community" type line--"where do I take my single, 60-but-youngish mom on her birthday tonight?")

I am now 6 months pregnant, and as much as I hate to admit this, my belly is now officially too big for me to tie my own shoes. I'm also in need of a good waxing studio that's preferably in NW Austin or Round Rock that won't tear my lady bits into unrecognizable pieces.
Anybody feel like sharing? Thanks in advance, etc. etc. :)
Edit: I need everything gone.
