    December!
    Yep. Been a while again.

I've been dating a nice lady named Sarah. It is going very well. :)

Work is really slow. Last month I did a couple of biographies but nothing major. Waiting on a couple small jobs but nothing huge to report.

I'm actually a bit bored. Thinking on starting up a comedy troup. I've not done enough theatre in the past year. Perhaps I'll rejoin streetspirits....

I've been making these neat presents with Sarah. They're "Tin Lamps". Basically tin cans with lots of holes punched in them so that I can mount a light inside. It's neat. Also, made the first wire tealight holder I've made in years. Totally forgot the knack. :)

Been watching a lot of youtube. Some neat stuff on there. One amazing creator on there is called "the receptionist". Look it up. It's really worth it.

    My fave...

    October!
I've been very delinquent on my duties on this blog. Not like anyone is actually reading it but I did promise myself so...

We finished the nwwic.com site. Looks pretty damn cool now.

I shot this year's "take back the night/take back the highway" events. That was wild being the only guy in a crowd of determined ladies. Lots of strange looks to be sure.

Finished off that BCTS job. It was ok in the end but the rush of getting it done took a bit out of me. I hope to do more like that in the future.

Did a piece for the Prince George Airport. It worked out quite well. Quick filming and whatnot. Editing was simple and in five languages. ;) http://www.pgairport.ca/Web/Page.aspx?p=460 They haven't finished the site yet but we'll see what happens when they throw the goods up there.

Did a couple of bios. Had to get rid of a lot of their dialogue because the couple had been fighting and weren't really happy. blech

Doing a neat bio where this woman wanted to document all of the houses her and her family had lived in. Pretty interesting setup. Cool hearing them chat about stuff that happened fourty years ago. :)

Might be doing something for the city of mackenzie. Sounds like it could be a cool project. Doing some promo video perhaps. :)

I did a mask show in Calgary this summer. It was a great experience. Note to self: never do heavy dramatic stuff at a Fringe. Nobody will come and see it. :) The show we did here before we went was well attended.

Dating a very nice lady named Sarah. Good thoughts for the future. :)

Happy three days after Canada Day!!!
Well shit. A lot has happened in the last month.

We've gone to Grand Prairie to do the Pomeroy job... That was a bit of a story. I originally planned to do a comedy piece using greenscreen and me in a double character role. Then I shot a couple of the scenes, saw that they weren't turning out how I had hoped, not to mention the "cheese factor" of the character outfits, and killed the comedy idea. Today we got Sandra Claremont in to do the hosting. She's damn good. It should look great as a final product. The goods should be on thier site when it's done.

We did that excel training video. It didn't turn out too bad. We tried to infuse a bit of comedy into it and the bosses didn't like it. No worries. I'll get my comedy in somehow. :) Cue evil laughter...
    <img="http://www.cnc.bc.ca/apprenticetoolkit/images/excel.jpg">

I finished off www.traininpg.com last week. Just waiting with bated breath to see if the files are working right. Also, I wasn't happy at all with the telepromter stuff. Joe is working on a fix for that. It's gonna rock hard I'm sure.

I went out to FT St James to shoot something for the BC timber Sales sector of the Forest Service. It will be a learning tool for their employees and their "clients". It was all about soil disturbance in lumber extraction. I know quite a bit about how they catagorize this stuff now. I'll be doing some hosting stuff with composits for that. I'd like to use their trainer but he has such a thick french accent it might not play.

    http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/bcts/

Looks like we got a middle size job doing a multilingual video for the prince george airport. Seems as though they're spreading out into a cargo base. Sometime soon CNrail and the city are announcing an "inland port" in prince george which will mean a lot of work for locals as well as an infusion into our economy. This airport thing seems to be linked with that.

Still dragging my ass on updating the www.pguajs.ca site. I've got a bunch of footage but I need a host. Marcel is slated to do it. I'll get Cork to crack the whip and get us a shoot date.

Matty and I are doing up a site for http://www.nwwic.com/ . As you can see it's overdue. It's also to be made into a cd to be distributed out manually. There will be a report on women in the north. Cool that it ties in with www.streetspirits.com (ignore the site. The last update was made by me many, many moons ago.)

There's more but I'll update soon.

    Back in town
Been back for a while but I'm in a bit of a funk for some reason. Just getting back on top of everything.

I've got a site called "www.roadhealth.ca" to do but my designer is taking his time. I also had someone say that my www.northernbrainpower.ca was down last week. Hmmm. I even checked it last week and it was up. Strange stuff.

I've got a new lead for a couple of video jobs. One is for http://www.pomeroygroup.ca/ . Sounds like they want a promotional video for their sales team to take on the road. Also, they want a video for their in house cable systems to be able to have a "welcome to pomeroy hotel" type thing. I've got a call at one today to see exactly what they want and what the timeline would be. Hopefully it'll put some more cash in the bank. Still a bit worried about what my taxes from last year look like.

Traininpg.com is still a go. We've got delays but it's still plugging along. Phase two will have a bit more filming to it but the script should be provided. That'll work out well. I hope they do some updating to the website to go along with it.

Carol, one of the designers we worked with this spring is putting in a proposal to do an update on the pg airport site. http://yxs.ca/PrinceGeorgeAirport/Home.aspx Should be a decent project if it goes through. ;)

Matty got a hernia operation a couple of weeks ago. Good thoughts out to him. Also, my friend Marilyn has been going through some tough times. Big hugs M!!!

I saw King Kong last night. I could go on and on about the problems with that film but instead I'll just say it gets a thumb and a half down. ;)

    Highway of tears
So we've been shooting interviews and getting footage along the highway of tears, a stretch of highway that reaches between prince george and prince rupert.

We went over to visit the family of Tamara Chipman today. It was a pretty nice time sitting and reminicing with the family.

    Tamara Chipman, 22,
has been missing since Sept. 21, 2005.
She often wears wig such as blonde, brunette and red hair.
She was last seen hitchhiking on Hwy. 16
near the Prince Rupert industrial park.

    http://www.highwayoftears.ca/Missing%20Index/tamarachipman.htm

One strange thing did happen though. While we were sitting at the kitchen table and the auntie was making bannock a small bird hit the window. I went outside to see if it was ok. It wasn't. It had broken its neck. As the last life left its body I sat and cradled it, wishing it would come alive in my hands. It didn't.

I took it to the edge of the property, a slough of the Skeena river. I gave it a resting place on the bank that had been its home.

Part of me wondered if this was a metaphor for Tamara. I wondered if she too had wanted back into the family, if she wanted to join them in the kitchen but something had stopped her, breaking her as harshly as that window had broken the bird. Sometimes we just don't see things clearly. Sometimes things have to be elusive?

Still, I did wish that bird would have awoken. Will Tamara?

    Highway of Tears
Here I am in the hotel in Smithers.

I've met Sharmeen and Allan as well as Mary his wife. We shot some stuff in the local cemetary. A tad cold if you're not dressed for it. :)

We're in Smithers for the day and then off to a little place out of Kitwanga on wednesday... Perhaps tuesday evening. We'll see.

    Chest feels funny. Not good.

Cool bunch of people though. Four filmmakers, one pathfinder. :)

    Waiting
All this waiting for projects is driving me mental.

I am doing some groundwork production for Al Jezeera International, for http://www.sharmeenobaidfilms.com/ though. That's pretty damn cool. She's a very good journalist that has a lot of important things to say. We're working on a "highway of tears" project. Lots of Private Investigator type work. I think I'll be the coffee guy once they come into town though. heh.

Been thinking more about doing my own projects. I got this note from a nice woman out of the Dawson City Film Fest...

Hi Stephen, I wanted to let you know how much I admire the work you do. I am sorry your excellent documentaries weren't accepted in the Dawson film festival. We have trouble programming commissioned pieces. I hope you continue to make interesting and informative work, because they definitely should be made.
    Cheers,

    Lulu Keating, Producer
Dawson City International Short Film Festival (April 14-16, 2006)

    Heavy Metal... again.
Well, I figured I'd cross over this stuff a bit with the comic work I've been writing on and off for a while.

The comic I write is called IMPH.

The latest installment is in the may heavy metal magazine...

    New film!
Yep. It looks like I might be getting a nice big film in april and may. It should be cool. It'll give me a good chance to do a bit of comedy stuff too!!! It's a film aboot "what not to do in a job interview." I think some of the talking head stuff could be really fun. I'm thinking on doing on location shoots to get good vibes.

I've been terribly tired today but I did update some of the video on http://www.onreelvideo.com . I got some of the older films up now, or at least two minutes of each up.

I'm supposed to be working on a film for the University about child protection. They been dragging their butts though. Oh well, see what happens.

    Rockin
Ok. So phase two of www.traininpg.com is starting to come along. We're slowly inching our way to getting things moving. I shot Exploration Place last week and now we're off to Forests for the world for the ski trails. It's getting warm out so I hope it's still snowy up there.

I finished the main construction of www.onreelvideo.com . It's looking great. Big round of applause to matty ryan for another great design job. www.mattyryan.com

I'm most of the way through this soccer training video for Romeo. It's starting to look good. I have to shoot the voiceover stuff on sunday but hopefully that won't be too heavy.

Oh yeah, I shot a fashion show last night. That was weird. It looked ok though. I should be able to throw some video online soon. I've got a slew of stuff that I can throw up there now. It's a bit of work but no worries.

I've been thinking that perhaps I should tell more people about this blog. I think I've got three people actually reading it. I suppose that's what happens when you make it all about work. :)

    Kickass
Ok. So a bunch of cool stuff happened this week.

I went out to a barrel race (with horses) last weekend. It was a shoot to do a production for a benefit for these two girls who had been in an accident. I donated the production to help them out. It turned out pretty nice looking. I used an animated gif from the web for the first time in a production. Actually two. Once I get some of these productions online I'll post some links...

We finally got paid from PNC for that safety orientation we did in December. Wow. I wondered if that would ever happen... We also got paid from a safety piece we did for DHall and associates a couple of weeks ago. yay. Rent!

We finished up phase one for the http://www.traininpg.com site. It was a big job but pretty cool. Some new techniques I hadn't done before. Check it out. Some of the video stuff we did was cool. The new video format for flash is neat but has some streaming issues. Just takes a lot of time to download em. There was a release today with the mayor and the delegation who are going to Torino for the olympics. They didn't preload the vids though. Not cool. Oh well...

We're going to be doing a training video for the youth soccer association in town. I'm not terribly eager to shoot this one seeing as it's a pilot project and seems to be a huge amount of work. Blech. Hopefully the project looks nice once we do it up. I'm filming in the rollerdome and can't shoot straight down onto the play area so I'm not sure what it'll turn out to look like...

I finished up lettering the newest scar tissue comic. Seems that all the edits are done now. Just waiting for the cover and the letters page now. Check out the site. Hopefully they'll update the previews sections and get some pages up there. :) http://scartissue-comic.com/

Still working on the northern brainpower site. I can't remember how to use dreamweaver and the code is so messy I don't know what the hell I'm looking at when I see it. Oh well, Matty might save me in the end. www.mattyryan.com

I did some testing to get a template together for the roadhealth video. It'll be ten minutes of misc footage from the crossroads conference I shot last year. No exciting footage so I had to build a template that looked cool. Might have that done in a week or so...

The on-reel logo is being worked on right now over at digital webbing. We did a contest to see who could come up with the best logo. Fifty bucks to the winner. I've seen a couple of neat ones so far. Hope we get something cool. We're redoing the http://onreelvideo.com/ website with streaming video introductions and Matty has made a new template. It's looking pretty good and I'm feeling good with it too. Once the logo is finalized it's gonna rock. Next a website for ouroboros digital...

Still waiting to hear back from the prof who wants to do the child protection video for UNBC. I'll email him again. Our start date was to be Feb 1. hmmm

    Things are moving.

    City Shooting Complete?
Yep. That's the way it looks. Yay! January was a killer month with looooooong days but the site should look sweet once it's done. www.traininpg.com.

We've been doing some other work with foxpro training. It's interesting stuff to get into. Here's a little vid. 8 meg so it might take a while to load. Seems we're to be doing some sort of trade show demo for them too...
    http://onreelvideo.com/video/business/robinb.mov

We've been contacted by someone in California to see if we could film a "cage match" fighting thing at CNCentre. Interesting!!!

Also, we're to do some sort of a training video piece for a local soccer club. That should be interesting. A little dvd. More as that comes along.

We just finished up the safety orientation video for DHall and Associates. It's looking pretty good. Some little touchups yesterday but it's not too shabby. Remember, grey over black, not black over blue. :)

I've been working on three websites over the past month. One is the northern brainpower community one. It's looking good and should be up soon.
The second one is for www.onreelvideo.com The site they have doesn't really work for me. We're a ways into it but I'm going to have to shoot some video for the intro.
The third one is going to be called "roadhealth" and is a huge project spearheaded my Maryanne Arcand and is bringing together five different agencies to try to save lives. We'll see what happens!!!

I'm supposed to be starting a film with a prof at the University this week. It's about the proceedures that are supposed to happen when a child comes forward with allegations of sexual assault. Just waiting for a call. It's looking to be a busy winter/spring so far.

Oh yeah, and phase two for the city job is starting this week. We'll have to figure out what venues are covered but it's looking like these ones...

It's been a killer week. Busting my butt to get this project done. My cold kicked into high gear too. Blech.

Sounds like we've got this other job doing a safety orientation for another ft st john company. That could be a good market to get into. I'm thinking on using sandra (from shaw) to do the voiceover. We'll see.

    A tad tired
It's been a kickass month so far. We've been shooting pretty much every day and we've got a bunch left to do.

I've got a cold now so it's not very cool. I'm having some fun with the software though so it's all good.

I've been making some websites with a good friend of mine Matty Ryan. He's a great designer and has the chops to make things happen. You rock m'man. I'll show you some site action once they go live.

Oh, looks like I'll be doing a 20 minute piece cut into sections for "child protection" stuff up at the University. It's not a big paying job but it'll keep me busy in February and March. :)

Greg at Sticky Wicket will do the website construction
    http://stickywicketdesigns.com/swd/

So, Corrine got us a presentation in front of the innitiatives PG board earlier this month and they seemed nice enough. They are doing a project to promote prince george as a destination for international athletes to train for the olympics.

We're doing a proposal to get the gig. It's a full month of work for January and seems pretty fun. Thumbs crossed for us getting it.

Yep. Xmas is approaching and Steph is kinda lowish on funds. That's ok. That's what December is for.

I started a new job with Maryanne Arcand doing websites and helping her out with misc stuff. It's cool.

The PGNAETA commercial is coming along. I need to get Tamara to rerecord some of her vocal work but that's not a huge deal. The graphics are looking pretty good though. Music by Marcel again...

Doing a film in Feb about Child protection! Should be neat.

    Woowoo
So, I'm almost done the principal shooting for the PGNAETA film. It's coming along. Still haven't gotten the contract signed but I'm workin on faith that everything is still smooth. My actress/welder didn't actually turn out to be unavailable afterall. Just working up at the mine and coming home every night. :) I should have all the filming done by this evening.

Michele, my Victoria infatuation, is coming up on friday for four days. It's gonna be so much fun!

Virginia is directing "Filth" this year, a series of dirty comedy sketches interspersed with music. Rehearsals are coming along. I HAVE to get my lines memorized. It'll happen...

I haven't been sleeping very well. Been getting up way early and have been unable to nap well. Hmmmmm.

I read in the paper that the Northern Health Authority has 1.1 million available for first nations health programs. I want to see if MaryAnne has anything on the go for this. I think it would be right up her (and my) alley.

    http://northernhealth.ca/phs/news.asp?articleid=2333&zoneid=1

I watched season four of Scrubs last week. What a funny show! Sounds like it'll be starting it's fifth season sometime in january. Yay! Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and Scrubs. I'll be so entertained!

    cool.
