Damn. Talk about an unsettling pilot!

Sure, the production values and the acting are no better, and sometimes worse, than you'd expect from their day, but once you
get past that, it has any number of unheimlich features, including a probably unhealthy obsession with brains (which I'm in no position to criticize, mind you), some subtle and not-so-subtle adult humor, a cheerfully generalized bleakness, and a combination of Dark Empire Evil with Bureocratic Evil that oscillates between darkly funny and too close for comfort.

What I found most devastatingly, poisonously ironic (if done on purpose), is an spoiler for something that happens around a third into the first episode, so it's not really that spoilery, I guess.Collapse )

I'm definitely watching the second episode when I can, and I'm definitely expecting more unsettling weirdness to come.
