Everybody should be reading Grendel: Behold the Devil.

* Because Grendel is as smart as Bruce Wayne, as ruthless as Lex Luthor, and more stylish than anyone else.

* And he moonlights as a wildly successful writer.

* Because the "good guy", Argent, is a savage werewolf with a long string of killings.

* Because all of the stock characters are fucked up, including the cop, the reporter, and the cute girl who is the chink in both Grendel and Argent's armors.

* Because the art is gorgeous and dangerous.

* And because it's never safe to give your back to the Devil. Not that it means much of a difference.

One of my favorite characters is Grendel (the Hunter Rose version); he's practically the anti-Bruce Wayne, and almost as awesome. This ficlet is written in the Black, White, and Red style, which I love lots.
