Brandon and I just rode our bikes to the library from my apartment. It felt so good and only took 5 minutes. But now I feel like complete shit because I'm so out of shape and because I smoke.

In the laid-back California town of sunny San Rafael
Lived a girl named Pearlie Sweetcake (you probably knew her well).
She was stoned 15 of her 18 years and a story was widely told

Well, her legend finally reached New York, that Grove Street walk-up flat
Where dwelt the Conestoga Kid, a beatnik from the past.
He'd been rolling dope since time began - now he took a cultured toke -
And said, "I can roll 'em faster than any chick can smoke."

So a note gets sent to San Rafael for the championship of the world.
The Kid demands a smoke-off! "Well bring him on!" says Pearl.
"I'll grind his fingers off his hands. He'll roll until he drops."
Says Conestog, "I'll smoke that chick 'til she blows up and pops."

So they rent out Yankee Stadium and the word is quickly spread,
"Come one, come all, who walk or crawl - tickets just two lids a head."
And from every town and hamlet over land and sea they speed -
The world's greatest dopers with the world's greatest weed.

Hashish from Morocco, hemp smokers from Peru,
And the shashniks from Bagoon who smoke the deadly pugaru,
And those who call it "Light of Life" and those who call it "Boo".

See the dealers and their ladies wearing turquoise, lace, and leather.
See the narcos and the closet smokers puffing all together.
From the teenies who smoke legal to the ones who've done some time
To the old man who smoked "reefer" back before it was a crime.

And the grand old house that Ruth built is filled with the smoke and cries
Of 50,000 screaming heads all stoned out of their minds.
And they play the national anthem and the crowd lets out a roar
And the spotlight hits the Kid and Pearl - ready for their smoking war.

At a table piled up high with grass as high as a mountain peak,
Just tops and brims of the rarest flowers - not one stem, branch, or seed.
I mean Maui Wowee, Panama Red, Acapulco Gold,
Kheef from east Afghanistan and that rare Alaska Cold.

And there's sticks from Thailand, gange from the island, and Bangkok's blooming best
And some of that wet imported shit that capsized off Key West.
There's walking tops and Kenya bhang and Riviera fleurs
And that rare Manhattan Silver that grows in the New York sewers.

And there's bubbling ice-cold lemonade and sweet grapes by the bunches
And there's Hershey bars and Oreos in case anybody gets the munchies.
And the Conestoga Kid, he smiles, and Pearlie, she just grins,
And the drums roll low, and the crowd yells "GO!!"
And the world's first smoke-off begins.

Well the Kid, he flicks his fingers once and zap! - that first joint's rolled!
Pearl takes one toke with her famous lungs and whoosh! - that roach is cold.
Then the Kid, he rolls his super-bomb that would paralyze a moose,
And Pearl, she takes one mighty hit and whoosh! - that bomb's defused.

Then he rolls three in just ten seconds and she smokes them up in nine
And everybody sits back and says, "Hey, this might take some time."

See the blur of flying fingers, see the red coals burning bright,
As the night fades into morning and the morning fades to night
And the autumn turns to summer and a whole damn year is gone
And the two still sit on that roach-filled stage, smoking and rolling on.

With trembling hands he rolls his jades, with fingers blue and stiff
She coughs and stares with bloodshot gaze and puffs through blistered lips.
And as she reaches out her hand for another stick of gold,
The kid, he gasps, "Dammit, bitch! There's nothing left to roll!"

"Nothing left to roll?" screams Pearl. "Is this some twisted joke?
"I didn't come here to fuck around! Man, I come here to SMOKE!"

And she reaches 'cross the table and grabs his bony sleeves
And crumbles his body between her hands like dried and brittle leaves,
A-flicking out his teeth and bones like useless stems and seeds.

Then she rolls him in a Zig-Zag and lights him like a roach,
And the fastest man with the fastest hands goes up in a puff of smoke.

Day 2:
Last night I cooked Brandon a romantic dinner at my apartment - we dressed up, had candles on the table and a Billie Holiday record playing in the background. I made stuffed tomatoes with tofu, mushrooms, green onions, garlic and noodles on the side. It's a Vietnamese dish and it called for nuom cham sauce which I couldn't find and knew I wasn't going to be able to. I could have made it myself but it still would have been tough to find all the ingredients. It was alright for my first time making it, could have been better though. We slow danced to Billie, ate some homemade chocolate chip cookies, took birthday polaroids, sat in my kitchen and sang John Prine, Madeline and Neutral Milk Hotel. After the unfortunate event with Boone Saloon we came back to my apartment and watched the Futurama movie until we fell asleep. A wonderful evening.

Day 3:
Brandon's parents came to Boone today at 230 and we all went to Cafe Portafinos for lunch. I got some really tasty pasta and the roll was incredible! Brandon got a free beer (Flying Dog) that he didn't like because it was way too dark AND a free ice cream sunday! His mom baked cupcakes and had letters on each that spelled out "Happy Birthday Brandon" and he opened his presents. I got to blow the bubbles and Teresa surprise attacked us with silly string, which happens every year. The funniest present was 3 fake cigarettes that "help" you stop smoking, they were for both of us, really. They dropped us off at my apartment and left and now I'm wating for Sarah and Crosky to get here to hang out for Brandon's birthday.

Tomorrow Brandon and I are driving to Charlotte to visit his sister Kelli and go uptown for drinks. We get to dress up! I can't wait.

I drove Brandon's car and picked him up from school and we went straight to Grandfather Mountain. Somehow I didn't think abouth Hank (the car) and how he's been strugglin' lately and took him up the mountain anyway. We got a good distance up when Hank had to stop, without letting us know and we had to pull over twice.....

The second time we were in an empty parking lot of a restaraunt called Pappy's. I got upset because I'm an idiot and then Caitlin wouldn't answer her phone. So I gave Brandon his yellow flowers I got him and we ate the lunch I made - sandwiches, peanut butter and celery, sweet tea, deviled eggs and homemade cookies. We decided to push Hank into the road, put it in neutral and see how far we could get down the mountain - 4 miles. Caitlin and Galen came and brought us the van so we could still go! Thank goodness for those two! It was perfect weather and we had an incredible time!!

Yesterday Brandon and I went to the Parkway and took a 2 mile hike up a mountain where you can climb a tower and see everything! It was beautiful! We're going back tomorrow to watch the sunset. (and bringing flashlights) On the way down from the trail we decided to roll down the hill and it was fun until I got a piece hard grass stuck inside my hand! It hurt pretty bad and we couldn't get it out so we had to wait. Plus I have scratches all over my legs from walking in the woods and on my stomach and back from rolling down the hill. But it was worth it.

Oh Brit, I'm pretty sure we saw the ape-man sitting in the middle of a field - creepy!

Friday was my Dad's birthday and Crosky's was last Wednesday, the WHOLE family went to the park for dinner for birthdays October-March and the cake had eeeveryone's name on it! Saturday, Brandon and I went to Charlotte to see Viking Moses and Golden Ghost - the show started waaaay later than it was supposed to so we walked around and got laughed at by a bunch of black people. Before the show, we made friends with Brendan and Laura Sue and they played a song for Brandon and I, he winked at us during another song, and when he was thanking everyone he looked right at us and smiled really big. After the show, Laura Sue handed us a cd they did together and said, "we want you guys to have this!" and smiled really big and in return we gave them a sweater (that I don't think they really wanted). They sounded incredible and I cried and freaked out because her voice is so good/they are beautiful and because of all the rum. After the show we went to Brit's to spend the night! We smoked and hung out and took crazy double/triple exposures with her new Spectra, and the boys made crude comments about Brit and I. Sunday we got Vietnamese, which I had never had before, and it was delicious! We laid out plans for our erotic car wash (promo pics will be up soon!) and sat around. Brandon and I left and went to Hickory to get his car, that is falling apart, to go back to Boone. Mama Holdt made some wonderful spaghetti and then we hit the road. Surprisingly, we didn't break down! After getting coffee and cigarettes and the car jerking every 10 minutes, I (and the car) finally calmed down and we made it just fine.

This week - 3 art projects, art history test, Andy Cabic?, NKOTB on the Today Show this Friday!!! I've got to find cable!!!

Buffalo Field Campaign is a group trying to stop the slaughter and harassment of Yellowstone's wild buffalo. They are the only group working on the field every day watching and documenting every action taken against the buffalo.

The Montana Department of Livestock are responsible for the slaughtering (as well as poachers.) They claim that the buffalo are infected with Brucellosis (bacterial disease that affects livestock and wildlife, sometimes causing cattle to abort their first calf post-infection.) and COULD spread it to the cattle. It is extremely important to note that there has never been a documented case of a wild buffalo transmitting brucellosis to livestock.

As of the spring of 2006 the herd in Yellowstone was 3,500 strong. This is a dangerously small population compared with the tens of millions that used to roam across America. This is the only herd of buffalo that are the last genetically pure remnant of the heards of millions that roamed the American plains. Descended from just 23 buffalo that survived the 19th century slaughter. Wild and unfenced, this unique population holds the key to the future of wild buffalo in America.

Brandon and I are recording music and making sleeves for the cd's so we can mail them to people around the country and the world! Tomorrow we are going to graffiti around Boone and adventure into some abandoned buildings. (I'm taking baby steps towards going to an abandoned hospital at night...this will take awhile) Then we're going to Winston for the night to hang out, make backyard forts and go to Cook's.

(Last night we made vegetarian lasagna swirls and they were delicious! I'm starting to cook more and I love it.)

Arlo Guthrie was incredible. He sang Alice's Restaraunt Massacre, Motorcycle Song and This Land is Your Land (one of his daddy's most popular songs) and so many other good ones. The whole audience sang with him on a few songs and he told lots of stories, that man is a wonderful storyteller. We waited outside near his bus for 45 minutes with a disabled Vietnam veteran because my mom (and the rest of us) wanted to meet Arlo so bad. He is a beautiful man with a beautiful voice, beautiful stories a beautiful mind. I cannot believe I just fucking saw Arlo Guthrie.

Sarah and Crosky came up to the mountains Friday night and left just a few hours ago. We played Apples to Apples, Pictionary, Charades, and lots of Guitar Hero. Saturday we went sledding behind my house where someone built a ramp out of snow - Sarah got whiplash and I took the hardest hit and landed completely on my right side. We ate lots of horrible food, sang Tracy Chapman, made up songs and drank rum and coke all night.

Sarah got Caitlin and I flannel sheets with deer and elk on them and surprised us with a big graffiti cookie cake for an early birthday gift! (three days!)

Last night at four in the morning Sarah, Crosky, Brandon and I ran around my house in our underwear in snowy, windy, 15 degree weather (felt like -5) and took a shot of rum halfway. It was an incredible, horrible and invigorating feeling.

I love my family.

Last night Brandon, Caitlin and I covered one wall in the hallway with cardboard and drew a lot of fat people. The wall is for everyone to draw/paint on - two rules though, 1) no stupid quotes and 2) no dicks.

Tomorrow I have to turn in a portfolio, get the car checked, go home, and paint faces at a Christmas party for $125. I'm done with school on Monday after I turn in some art. Tuesday night Brandon, Caitlin, Joe and I went to our friend Derek's house for drinks, Gangsta Quiz, rooftops and dancing. Brandon and I stayed up all night, sang some good ol' folk songs and stuff we listened to when we were little - John Prine, Steve Miller, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Lion King. We went to Bojangles and drove up a mountain and finally went to sleep around 10 in the morning. Sleeping has been weird since then - today I woke up around 2 and I've done barely anything.
