Because I have no life, I wrote 4 PS7 Tutorials
Tutorial 08: Shannon "Black & White with Colour"
From this:
to this:
-Photoshop 7
-Medium
-Image Heavy
01. I got my picture of Shannon from Lost-Media, I cropped it to 100x100 pixels and sharpened it once {Filter-->Sharpen-->Sharpen}. Which then give us our base:

02. Next duplicate your base {Layer-->Duplicate Layer}. Set the blending mode to Screen and put the opacity at 50% (this lightens our image, but not so it's too bright - if you're using a different base you might need to have the opacity at 100% - or have mutiple screen layers, or none). Now we have this:

03. Now duplicate your base and drag it all the way up to the top of the layers pallete. Desaturate your image {Image-->Adjustments-->Desaturate}. Set the blending mode to Soft Light and leave the opacity at 100% (using the Soft Light layer puts some shadows back into the image, without making it too dark). Now we have this:

04. Create a New Adjustment Layer {Layer-->New Adjustment Layer-->Gradient Map}. Click OK, and then click on the long bar, a whole heap of gradients should come up. Select the black and white one. If you're confused, here's a screencap. Now we have this (by the way, your layer pallete should look like this):

05. With the "Mask" (the white square) part of the layer selected I took a round default 3px brush in black and erasered Shannon's bikini so the orange colour showed through, if you make a mistake just go over it in white, and it will make it black and white again. So now we should have this:

06. I selected the rectangular marquee tool and made a rectangle (on a new layer). I then filled it with white (#FFFFFF). Now we have:

07. I took this brush, made by

08. In the same colour as before (#E6AF2B), I applied this brush, made by me:

09. I then added text. I wrote "Sunscreen Princess" in Alpha Mack OE size 18pt anti-alia Sharp. I also rotated the text a bit (Ctrl+T) to make it fit more with the icon:

And we're finished!! I hope this helped someone learn something... You can take the icon and copy the tut aslong as you credit
Tutorial #09: H/Hr "Vivid Contrast"
From this:
to this:
-Photoshop 7
-Easy
-Image Heavy
01. I can't remember where I got this pic from, I've had it saved for like forever, but anywayz... Crop it to 100x100 pixels and Sharpen once {Filter-->Sharpen-->Sharpen}:

02. Next duplicate your base twice. Set both copies to Screen, but put the top most layer at 50% opacity, it may look a little too light now, but don't worry we'll fix that:

03. Fill a layer with a light grey colour, I used #CCCCCC {
}. Set the blend mode to Colour Burn. Then duplicate it three times, we now have a nice vivid, contrast icon:
04. If you want to you can add text or brushes ect. I chose not to, also you may not need as many Colour Burn and Screen layers as I used, this is different for all images. Experiment.
And we're finished!! I hope this helped someone learn something... You can take the icon and copy the tut aslong as you credit
Tutorial #10: H/Hr "Lighten Gradient Effect"
From this:
to this:
-Photoshop 7
-Medium
-Image Heavy
01. I started with a texture/base from

I then got a cap by either

02. I duplicated it {Layers-->Duplicate Layer} and then desaturated it {Image-->Adjustments-->Desaturate}. I played around with the Brightness and Contrast {Image-->Adjustments-->Brightness and Contrast}... I can't remember my exact settings, but I think Brightness was set at +10 and Contrast was set at +15, but can't be 100% sure. Now we have:

03. I added a gradient made by me {#3B82AC to #000000}:

It doesn't have to be blue, it can be any colour you want, but you need to keep the black in there. I set the gradient's blending mode to Lighten at 100% opacity:

04. Next I added text. I wrote "Harry" "'s" and "Hermione" all in Splurge 14pt Sharp I selected a blue colour from the icon (using the eyedropper tool), it ended up being #337196. I added each piece of text seperatly, and left a space between them, sorta, so I could add the brush:

05. Then I added this brush (and same colour as the text), made by me, and put it next to "'s" :

06. Then using the Rectangular Marquee Tool I made a small rectange, on the side of the icon, I filled it with black (#000000):

07. Then I took this brush, made by ??? (I'm sorry, but I can't remember, you're credited in my resource post, but since I cut and resized it, I can't tell who's it is probably

And we're finished!! I hope this helped someone learn something... You can take the icon and copy the tut aslong as you credit
Tutorial #11: Jack - "Texture Thingy Effect":
From this:
to this:
-Photoshop 7
-Medium
-Image Heavy
01. I got this picture of Jack, from Lost-Media. I cropped it to 100x100 pixels. I then sharpened {Filter-->Sharpen-->Sharpen} it once. Now we have our base:

02. I thought it was too dark, so I duplicated {Layer-->Duplicate Layer} and set it to Screen at 100%. Much better:
03. I still don't like the colouring, so I duplicated the Screened layer, changed it to Soft Light. I left the opacity at 100%, but desaturated the image {Image-->Adjustments-->Desaturate}. It's a bit too dark now, but we'll fix that later:

04. I made a new layer {Layer-->New Layer} and filled it with a dark blue colour:
(#020117)I set the blend mode to Exclusion and left the opacity 100%:

05. I created another new layer and filled it with a light-pinkish colour:
(#E3D5CD).Set the blend mode to Multiply and left the opacity at 100%:

06. I then went right back to the bottom, and duplicated my Screened layer. I dragged it right up to the top of the layer pallette, and changed the opacity to 80%. I also desaturated it:

07. I thought Jack was too light now, so I made one more new layer, and filled it with a light blue colour:
(#D7EFEE)I set the blend mode to Colour Burn and left the opacity at 100%, now we have:

08. I was semi-happy with the colouring now, but I really wanted Jack to stand out from the background, which I really didn't think he was doing at the moment, so I added this texture by Tre and set it to Multiply at 100% opacity:

09. I was happy with the background, but Jack was looking totally eew! He was way too dark and too green. So I added a mask {Layer-->Add Layer Mask-->Reveal All} to the layer. A white box should appear on the layer pallate, and look like this:

10. With the mask selected (you can tell because it has the black lines around it), fill it with black (#000000). Now your picture should look exactly like it did before you added the texture. Using a default round 5px brush with the colour white (#FFFFFF) I painted over the background, this slowly reveals the texture, but leaves Jack looking the same. If you make a mistake switch to black - and this will act as an eraser and go back to how it was. I use masks because they're so easy to fix mistakes. Now, we have this:

11. Well Jack defiantly stood out now, and it was looking better, but IMO he didn't really match the background (and that looks bad), so I added the same texture as before, and set it to Soft Light with 46% Opacity.. Though the background looked sort of off, so using the same technique has above, I added a mask, filled with black, and painted over Jack in a white brush, it doesn't make huge difference, but I love little details in icons... Anyway, we have this now:

12. Finally I added text. I wrote "Hero" in Death Struggle (all lower caps) 24pt Anti-Alias Sharp, and I then rotated it 180 degrees clockwise {Edit-->Transform-->Rotate 180}. "Faded" was in Century Gothic (all caps) 8pt Anti-Alias Sharp Kerning 100. I put the text in white (#FFFFFF) and set it Soft Light:

And we're finished!! I hope this helped someone learn something... You can take the icon and copy the tut aslong as you credit

Variation on Tutorial 10 :3
I used your tutorial #10 for:Except instead of seeping the background for the texture I seeped the needle. Then whited out on 14% his skin to make it more sickly.
Thank you so much for the tutorial
(Note: i'm not pro-heroin, there's supposed to be irony in the icon)
