Ah, the world of retail. I've had some pretty bitchy costumers myself. I try my best to be a wonderfully sweet employee and I do succeed more often than not. And I hate when people are assholes. I don't mind you asking questions about the prices or you need help finding something. But be nice about it. I'm being nice to you, can't you just show a little common courtesy, please? The customers I get who have worked in retail are generally nice, but I've had some people saying that when they worked in retail it was like this and you're a horrible person. (They don't say you're horrible, but it certainly makes one feel that way)
When I worked at Long's Drugs I had these two people, a man and a woman. I don't believe they came in together, but they decided to gang up on me. They started debating with me over the 75% off Halloween Candy. They were insisting that the 86c was too high to be 75% off and blah blah blah. They handed me several bags and made me check the prices and figure out the original prices....They were truly a pain in the ass. I finally called a manager over and they took over the register and made them happy. And guess what? I got in trouble for it from the head boss because I didn't call a manager soon enough....(But the head boss is the reason I quit; she was a completely unappreciative bitch)
Also at Long's we had a lot of elderly people on tight budgets and they would come to buy cheap canned goods. More than once they have read the signs wrong or grabbed an item that was set in the wrong place and had no others like it around it. We tried to keep everything in order and put things away right, but we're human too. Anyways...they blame us when they read the sign wrong or grabbed a can in the area next to the sale item. Or they came in with last weeks ad and tried to get the same price this week. They also blamed us front end cashiers for something that went wrong in the pharmacy. I now really dislike most old people because of that job. I understand why they are cranky and angry, but I didn't like them taking it out on me.
I would on occasion get the sweetest most kind customers and those ones made my day.
Oooh. We had this somewhat regular customer who would come to buy mountains of stuff with coupons. Well half the time she wouldn't hand me the coupons until the very end. So when a coupon didn't work I had to sift through allllll her stuff to find the item it was supposed to be for. It generally turned out to be the wrong item. Sometimes I wouln't scan a coupon she handed me because it wasn't for our store and she would insist that it was...
I had a customer tell me I had an attitude and was unhappy with the way I ringing up her transaction. But the gentleman behind her told me that I handled the situation well and that I didn't have an attitude at and besides that person wasn't very nice to begin with. :) That guy pretty much made my day.
And never work drive through. When I worked at Taco Bell I got all the crazies, and the people who had smoked to much weed and had the munchies, the mom's talking on their phones and yelling at their kid's while trying to order. Actually any one talking on their phone while ordering in the drive through or at the counter or anytime I'm trying to help them pisses me off....It's like
I'm trying to help you here so can I please get off the phone so I can figure out what the hell you want...
Sometimes its okay... for instance I now work at my school's bookstore. Scantrons have set prices and most people know what they are. They just hand me the correct change and leave, we don't have to exchange words because we both know what's goin' on.
alrighty then, that's it for now
