According to this very sarcastic Gawker story, mainstream journalism outlets have gotten the bright "new" idea to link to source material in their online stories, and they're all aglow in the brilliance of this new way to compete with the blogosphere.
Well. As a fourth-year journalism student back in 1999, I had this exact idea. A story about a new piece of legislation could link to the text of that legislation itself! Readers would have instant access to primary sources and wouldn't be solely reliant on the jouralists' interpretation of events or documents!
I told this all to my journalism professor, who nodded in acknowledgment, but did nothing after that. Obviously he didn't recognize my forward-thinking brilliance. He now stands corrected.
Can I get my shiny journalism trophy now?

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG CANADIAN TIRE HAS THEIR CHRISTMAS TREES UP ON THEIR WEBSITE FINALLY!!
I searched about two weeks ago to see if they had them online yet and they didn't. I didn't find this surprising but I was still slightly disappointed. I'm normally not someone who approves of decorating for Christmas before December 1 but since this is my first Christmas in my apartment, I had a bit of an inkling to break my rule and decorate moderately earlier (say... November 1? Ha.). AND NOW THEY'RE ONLINE, WHICH MEANS MAYBE THEY'RE ON DISPLAY IN STORE. I'm totally going after work tomorrow to see.
I only want a small little tree, maybe 4' tall, since I don't have a ton of room for one. They've got one, two, and three that fit my very basic requirements, although I'd have to see them in person since I don't feel one can adequately select a Christmas tree online. The branches on the second one are a little fat for my taste. I think I'm looking for faux-spruce.
I want a dinosaur-themed tree, but fear that might be really difficult to pull off. ETA these are amazing and also include my top three favourite dinosaurs!

I have to say I really have surprised myself since I have moved out with just how on top of things I have been. Knock on Wood, thank the dear Lord for providing me with my finances. I am doing well. Granted when my large student loans begin in Feb I may not be doing well, but right now I am. I haven't been good at putting money away in savings, but that's because I wanted to make sure I had everything taken care of. I'm going to begin with this next paycheck. Even a couple hundred will really help; it is a good amount already because I would put about 80% of my paycheck in there, can't do that now, but I can start putting some in there. can't remember the last time I went shopping, which is good, I deserve something though... hmmm. I did shop at VS the other day but I also had a $20 gift card, so the $4 I spent really doesn't count, it should be here tomorrow, no one to wear cute underwear for anymore... but I still like it.
I did go to Ikea on Saturday and got the kids a 'housewarming' present. Hardest thing to shop for a 10 yo boy let me tell you! I started asking random men in the store if they would like what I got him... its behind the cut ( ... )
Other than that work has been crazy busy, doing 3.5 jobs now, really no time to rest, but I like all the new things I am learning and being able to put that knowledge into my practice and better myself. I had a good weekend though as well; on top of the Ikea, I bought card making materials and made some cute autumn cards, I'll post those tomorrow when I have my camera, I was quite proud of myself though; they turned out good! After having to go into work for a few hours on Sunday, I cleaned the apartment my new weekly routine... too much dog hair and dust not to atleast vacum every week, should be twice a week though!) and watched Raising Helen (appropriate movie somehow...) and spent some good time by myself. We'll see where life takes me this next week!
So really... what do you think of the housewarming presents?

This is another little interesting factoid about Pete: he quit the band. I had to talk him back into the band after those pictures got out.
PETE. D: We have our share of differences. (Read: I mock you. A lot. Because it's funny. IDK if you call that a difference.) But D: I am glad you did not break up your band over some naked internet pictures. Then I would have to >:( at you hardcore. (lol naked pictures. I CAN'T STOP. IT'S LIKE A SICKNESS.)
Also, I got the sound working on this computer. I've been trying to get it working for, like, 2 years. And I just did it in 15 minutes. :||||||||||||||||||
My mom has been asking me questions about Panic today. I am hardcore winning her over to the ways of the disco. \o/
I should post my pictures from the SJ show, but I am lazy and I think we have to shopping.

I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. Mine got sort of cancelled. I missed one side of the family because I was working and then my dad sort of got in a fight with his family yesterday and so we didn't end up going there for thanksgiving. So, when we were deciding what to do for dinner last night, I was like 'we should have turkey!' and my dad replied, 'Oh, we already had enough turkey' and I all but yelled 'BUT I DIDN'T HAVE AAANY!' and I think they got the point - that I hadn't had thanksgiving yet and if they didn't fucking give it to me I was going to cry.
So, yes. Thanksgiving was salvaged and, as I mentioned yesterday, there was pie. Not my favourite (they were out of raspberry, strangely. I hope this doesn't mean they haven't stopped making it) but good pie anyway. And now it's in my freezer.
Still, I'm sort of bummed that I didn't get to see any of my extended family. I guess that's life. *shrug*

Sketchy fact about me: I love jellyfish. If I was a wealthy/powerful person with an office, I would have a tank of glowing jellies in the corner to serve as a living lava lamp and to be threatening to my competitors in a James Bond villain sort of way. I also love aquariums and all the crazy sea critters one can find there.
LOOK AT THESE NEWLY-DISCOVERED SEA CREATURES. The second Dumbo Octopus pictured is kind of amazing... I want him for a pet.

Ugh, I didn't think I'd feel like a bad mommy for taking Evelyn to daycare, but I do. I know she won't get the kind of attention there she'd get from us. We'll just have to make sure that we make up for it (reading to her, cuddling her, tummy time) when she's back home in the evening and on the weekends.
I'm not sure yet if I'll leave her there for a full day today or not. We got there a little late (I need to have her there by 7:45, and we didn't get there until 8:15). How long is too long to leave her with complete strangers (to her) in a new and unusual environment?
We may strive for a full day tomorrow...When I start work on Wednesday, she'll be there from 7:45-ish until 5 or 5:30-ish every day. That's nearly 10 hours, ugh! I don't want to think about it in those terms. I just don't know...God, this sucks.
Maybe I'll pick her up today around lunch time. Then tomorrow, leave her there until 3. Acclimate her to it gradually? Let her try to realize that we haven't abandoned her? That might be easier on the both of us...
