Dear players and admin on my MUD:

Wanna know why no one cares about your character that's off a different gender than you, the players? I'll tell you.

Telling them )Grow up, meet some people with personality, learn to emulate them (in game and out), go to some sex-themed MUD for your sexy-times and then you can play your special snowflake.

Except, I hope, you won't want to after that.

Bad Admins Suck Too [19 Jul 2009|03:23am]

Dear Crappy Admin:

We've been playing together for about three years on different sites. You've been the admin on each of them and lately I've noticed a pattern. Your sites are very repetitive. They all have the same plot, the same exact forums, and the same style artwork. This in and of itself does not make you a bad admin.

What makes you a bad admin is that you abandon sites if they don't have 50 members by the end of the first week. What makes you a bad admin is that you abandon sites without ever telling the other members of your staff. That you talk behind the backs of your admin team.

You're a good role player (minus the fact that all of your characters are nearly carbon copies of one another -- brooding boys who end up in love and suddenly not so broody), but stick with sites dude. I don't understand why you have a following. I only go to your sites because the week you stick with them, they're active. But I already see another site dying.

This time, when I say this, I mean it. That was the last site of yours I'm joining. Even if all my friends are there and I'm going through withdraws, I won't be joining anymore. You're immature and fickle, and that's not the traits I look for in an admin.

Love,
Me.

((I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a very long time.))

Soooo lemme get this straight.

You attack people for telling you you can't play your character right, run off to make your own RP, steal everything from the first one, then continue to play your character like an OC with a canon character's skin?

God made you "special" alright.

Thank goodness snowflakes eventually melt because you're long overdo.

Looking for Help [17 Jul 2009|04:46pm]

Does anyone here know Greek? I'm asking because, in an RP I help maintain, there's a class of creatures that eat various energy types, and I'm trying to class them into various categories of "-phage". Problem is, I don't know Greek, like, at all, and my faith in the combination of Babelfish + "Greeklish" converter isn't very high. So, in order to avoid looking like a pretentious twit who doesn't do her research (I'm a pretentious twit who does do her research, you see. Sorta. I guess. I'm a stickler for detail, is all.), I'm coming here to beg for assistance.

This is the right place for that, right? I mean, it has to do with RP quality and stuff.

Anyways, what I've got so far is this:

"Zoiphage" for "an eater of life energy"
"Phobiphage" for "an eater of fear"
"Empathiphage" for "an eater of emotions" (more general than "phobiphage")

I'm not sure if any of these are correct/suitable. Are they? I still need to look up the words for "dream" and "soul", but can I at least, for now, get pointers on how to correctly stick the words together? Is there some sort of special rule for it? >_>

((Also, please forgive/point out any typos you might find here. My arms are kinda shaky right now (they sometimes do that), and this isn't my usual keyboard.))

Long time lurker, recent poster. You know the drill.

I’m a member of a fairly large, lively Pern RP community. It’s awesome; the community is very open and welcoming, and the quality of the roleplay is on the whole excellent. We have a good overlying plot as well as a lot of fun miniplots, the characters are varied…for the most part, it’s a wonderful community run by wonderful people. Basically everything you can ask for in a community. Unfortunately, it’s also got its crazies. The staff is really great about screening, but sometimes things just get through, or don’t show up until IT’S TOO LATE.

Longrant is long. )

TL;DR: Even the most awesome community in the world ends up full of fail and retardation and god only knows if it’s ever going to get better…but at least it provides epic lulz. Here’s to the world never changing and BRPers always being BRPers. After all, if they didn’t suck, what else would we have to do with our spare time?

Okay, so you want to quit our RP, citing that you are "not into yaoi" at the moment. Alright, that's fine! Even if it's not true, it's an okay reason to give your partner.

But if it isn't true?

You'd better make sure you don't feed the lie to someone who you know is almost constantly found wandering around the search request page. Someone who will see that shiny new "Looking for Yaoi!" thread you just started, oh, yesterday.

We're friends! I'm a friendly person! You can tell me if you're no longer interested in the RP.

You win points for actually telling me you wanted to quit.

You lose them for killing the RP right after the first sex scene, which I knew you would do. Pet peeve number ninety-two.

Um,

I really don't think the Salem Witch Trials was a controversial case of a conspiracy against women healers by christian men. I don't know where you got it, and granted, post-medieval history is not my special area; but I really doubt a highschooler who even goes online on IT class would research that extensively to come up with a conclusion.

Hell, I don't even know how you started ranting about the injustice. Just because I'm playing a familiar doesn't mean I have to go ooh and ah at the scary anti-true-religion goings on. But I'm from a culture where scars run deep and even had a very close family that are so backwards it will shake you. So my opinions about historic going ons are different. So don't get mad at me just 'cause I don't follow you.

But here I am. And y'know what? Bad RPers REALLY DO SUCK. I hadn't really seen too many bad RPers in my time until yesterday. It was like trying to read an awful plotline with a x5 speed. Okay man, so your character just happens to get into a fight, destroys his opponents in one hit, and then SECONDS LATER he gets one of the most important things in the story. Uh, yeah, NO. I mean seriously, can you say 'POWER PLAYER'? Not to mention thatitwasallwritten liekthisandyouhad tostare for liikefivfmineets beforitmadeanysenzat all. And yes, there's a difference between making your post look nice and putting in an unnecessarily big picture that makes the text look even worse than it did before.

So here is the first of my tiny rants for this wonderful bitchfesting community. Thankies!
[Edit]
WOW. I knew this was a place for people to flame, but I didn't think that meant flame the person posting in it! First off, I just want to say that I didn't change the style because I 'think I'm special' as many people were kind enough to let me know. I did it out of habit, as I usually post on a different site where it's extremely common to change the size, color, and alignment (Yep, don't think I forgot about the one person who mentioned that~!). That being said, I actually feel like an idiot for not considering that the background was white before choosing that color. So I hope those of you with poorer eyesight can read this now, and will get off of my back for doing what I've become used to. Hooray for flame pages!

I think I managed to nail down my problem with "diary entry and log" games. You see, in these games there are exactly two kinds of interaction: talking over some kind of network (posted in journals, sort of like a livejournal for the characters themselves), and logging out third-person interactions. This should be familiar to most LJRpers, since roughly 85% of LJRPs do this.

My problem with it is that there's no room for things in-between. Say you want to have in-person interaction, but it's something very minor, such as passing off an object to another character. Do you start a log post just for that? And what if you don't want to do long 300+ word post interactions between characters simply because it's impractical for the situation? This very problem is where my friends introduced me to 'action logs'. They're done in the style of the other 15% of RPs on livejournal ( dialogue *action* with the posts being a sentence or two at most, and they usually happen as a continuation of a network post, so they're right there and don't require any extra linking), which is very useful for doing the little things that don't work so well in a log. In fact, it's pretty much a third accepted format at this game I play in, and with it the game seems to go much more smoothly-

What's this? The new mod has banned action logs? All face-to-face interaction has to be done in log format? Well shit.

Is anyone else who plays in LJRPs bothered by this format for RPing, where only network interactions and logs are allowed?

Hey, you, I’d like to drop you an FYI: Just because I’m playing a girl and you’re playing a boy doesn’t automatically mean they’re going to rip off each other’s clothes and do the horizontal hula. And, actually, my girl kind of thinks your boy is a heretic and should burn at the stake. This might have been born from the fact that your boy constantly disses her religion (which also happens to be the official religion of this particular country, and everyone is supposed to follow it; think Catholicism in the middle ages). Total disrespect for another person’s beliefs don’t exactly provide a solid foundation for a relationship.

But what do I know. Clearly, my priestess with absolutely no people skills has already, to quote you, “charmed the metaphorical pants off my boy.” I don’t understand how “You’re a heretic and should be burned at the stake” can be misconstrued as charming unless your boy is thinking of her like you think of the cute puppy that just tore up your slippers and the morning newspaper. Again, not exactly a foundation for a healthy relationship. If she wanted a relationship, but girl would want a healthy one. But she doesn't.

I seem to be attracting the fail of late.
