Hi,

I'm [info]savagemind and I'm one of the maintainers of [info]chicagocubs. Some people think I'm handsome and articulate, others think that I've got a great ass and that I sing like an angel. This is all true. Once, some girl at the club said "he can't pull off that killer dance-move" but I did. Twice. I popped it like it was hot.......TWICE. Now she's the mother of three of my eight illegitimate children and I can't bend my legs at the knees. I'd do it for you again, but I can't afford the child support. Once I split the atom with my mind. Don't ask me how. The point is that I did it and you can't prove otherwise. An interesting fact about me: I wrestle sharks but I'm afraid of moths. Another interesting fact: [info]savagemind <---- ninja. Right there.

Years ago, people used to be like "HEY, WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITH ALL THESE TROLLS AND ALL THESE POSTS EVERY GAMEDAY?" Pfft! Dealt with. Next. Because that's how I roll. I fix shit, son. According to a complex graph I just drew up in my mind there is an inverse relationship between El Nino, Disney movies featuring pirates and me being a mod that have contributed directly to the Cubs leading the Central Division this year, so you best take heed.

I have a necklace on which I display the severed heads of slain trolls, flamers and spammers. My enemies have named my mighty banhammer Mjolnir. It was forged by dwarves deep in the fiery core of Midgard. Don't believe me? Go to the juicy, lava-filled center of Midgard and they'll tell you. Oh wait you can't because you aren't me. Burn!

Some people think that my computer is as powerful as I am. It isn't. I wouldn't need it, since I can do math faster than any Pentium chip on the planet, but I don't have a modem...so I've got to make due. This means that I am at the mercy of Dell. If everyone on the Internet felt a strange vacuum for the past few weeks, that was me being away. You can stop crying, because I'm back, Dell permitting. No worries, because [info]schnozbrry ably handled Mjolnir while I was away. Big public thank you to Carol for handling things because I never catch her on AIM anymore.

In case it isn't already obvious, impersonating members of the community is a banable offense...assuming they aren't cool with it. Consider anything which violates the LJ TOS/Abuse rules to be a violation of the community's rules. No, I'm not talking about the recent trend of "Hi, I'm Carlos Zambrano and I've decided I don't like pitching anymore" posts. Those are cool. So cool, in fact, that I'm thinking of making one myself. Think I should? Nah. That'd be tacky.

Once I crossed the English Channel standing on the backs of two extinct ichthyosaurs while I got 100% on "Through the Fire and Flames" on Expert.

Wheeee!!! [Aug. 19th, 2008|11:59 pm]

[conejita_diabla]
Ok, that game was awesome! I have a bunch of probably crappy pics from my phone that I can't upload right now, but I'll check them out when I get home later in the week.

It was my first regular season game of the year, and first night game in Wrigley ever. So that was cool.

Most amusing thing of all, though - the girls right behind me were from Saskatchewan. By the Alberta border. So, about a 4-5 hour drive from my house. What the hell are the odds of that?!?

Anyway, back tomorrow night for probably my last regular season game this year. [info]feigenbaum_04, your ticket is at the Drop Off window. Was doing the name from memory, so hope I remembered/spelled it right. I put my name on there too, just in case. Text/call me if there's any problems, or when you get in the park...

Anyone else going tomorrow? Is the meetup still happening tomorrow? I'd love to join up with you guys after the game if there's still goings on...

The Cubbies appear on WWE Raw [Aug. 19th, 2008|04:05 pm]

[Current Mood |amused]

CHICAGO – Chicago Cubs star pitchers Ryan Dempster, a two-time All-Star, and Bob Howry, made the short trip from Wrigley Field to Allstate Arena to enjoy Raw live. Before witnessing the action, the teammates of the NL Central Division-leading “Cubbies” were special guests on a brand-new episode of Santino’s Casa, airing this Thursday.

“You’ve got to remember, especially where we are, to think of the little people like Santino. To be able to help him out, that’s what we’re here to do,” Dempster, who was named one of the 99 “Good Guys” in professional sports by The Sporting News, joked. “I enjoy seeing these guys. I think they’re unbelievable athletes. The grind they put their bodies through 250 to 350 days a year is pretty remarkable. WWE events get bigger and better each year.”

I wish I could find a video of Dempster pretending to give Howry an elbow drop. It was hilarious.

I'm Lou Piniella [Aug. 19th, 2008|10:28 am]

chicagocubs

[purplebard]
Hi,

I'm Lou Piniella, and I'm the Cubs Manager. Some people think that I'm a senile old man, but that's not true. I'm just Bre'er Rabbit, wating to be thrown in the Briar Patch by Bre'er Fox and Bre'er Dog -- otherwise known as TLR and Yost-the-Most.

I like to ride the hot-hand, and I tend to run the bullpen at full speed, but in all other things, I'm wiley and smart. I know how to out-think other managers. And when I need my ultimate secret weapon, I remove Mike Fontenot from my abdominal marsupial pouch and let him fly.

My players sacrifice virgins at my altar. My critics weep black tears of defeat. My waiters are tipped well. Those who try to take food from my plate draw back bleeding stumps. I carry the essence of Billy Martin, Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Thurmon Munson in my veins. It's a Yankee Thing, you wouldn't understand. But now, it's also a Cubs thing.

Mark Derosa leaps to my touch. Alfonso Soriano runs at my call. Ryan Theriot dives... well, he dives at just about everything.

I came to Chicago for three years, no more no less, and with one goal.

I
Win
Rings.

Love,

Lou

Reed Johnson humbly speaks [Aug. 18th, 2008|09:39 pm]

chicagocubs

[mfbob]
[Current Location |the shadows of the dugout]
[Current Mood |predatory]

Hi,

I'm Reed Motherfuckin' Johnson, and I'm a ninja. Some people think that I'm a robot ninja, but that's not true. Robot ninjas are modeled after me, so I understand people's confusion over the matter. I am human, though quite unlike any other on the planet. I strike with a silent, sudden viciousness that leaves my enemies dead before they hit the ground. Just ask that Marlins pitcher I made sushi out of the other day. He will bear the shame of the humiliating defeat he suffered at my hands for the rest of his days.

I serve my sensei (you call him "Lou") proudly, and follow his orders exactly. While I might wish to start every game, I realise that sensei has other plans for me. At times, he likes to keep me on the bench (where I meditate), knowing that he can send me into the game to perform a ninja death strike at a moment's notice. While players Soriano, Theriot, Lee, and Ramirez are all great talents, they do not possess knowledge of the deadly arts that I do (Maybe Kosuke does, but I think he's samurai, not ninja.). I respect them as players and men, but they are not ninja. I am. This does not make me more important than them, just deadlier.

My bat runs red with the blood of slain pitchers. Their essence strengthens the grain of my bat's wood. It makes me grow stronger. My glove is just as deadly. My wielding of it has made grown men cry, women weep, and given children nightmares. Canada feared me so much, they threw me out of the country. When I came to Chicago, I had to register with the police as a deadly weapon. Little league coaches warn their charges about my exploits in hushed tones in the dugout after games. I am the thing that goes bump in the night.

I

Game over, most despised enemies

Letter from Theriot [Aug. 18th, 2008|04:06 pm]

chicagocubs

[rocketsaucetd]
Hi,

I'm Ryan Theriot and people think I'm more valuable to the Cubs than I truly am because I'm scrappy and white. I'm too busy hustling and getting my uniform dirty that people don't realize I'm actually a mediocre baseball player. Just watch me in the infield. Suckers like Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano are actually better defenders at their position than I am, but since they don't hustle as much as me people have no idea and I get undeserved credit. I have pretty crappy range and not much of a throwing arm, and I really should be playing second base with my lackluster defense, but you wouldn't know that because, dammit, I try my best out there!

I don't want to hear about how Soriano and Ramirez with their fancy home runs are the main reasons this offense is so potent. I play with a lot of heart, tons of grit, I'm not afraid to get my uniform dirty, I have spunk, I have hustle, I'm a true ball player.

This offense would be useless without me! And I'm trying to help break records! Without my offense that basically consists of either hitting a single or drawing a walk, Derrek Lee's pursuit of the most GIDP in a season wouldn't be possible! Slugging the ball is overrated. Reaching only 1st base in your at-bat is sexy. I get all my teammates involved. But I'm also trying to help my own personal stats. You maybe have noticed that I lead the team in stolen bases. I make things happen, baby. Hitting home runs is fine, but you gotta do the little things, man. You can't wait for the home run. You gotta be a pest on the base paths and put pressure on the pitcher! Now, I know all the nay-sayers and the stat-nerds are gonna say "Actually, you've been caught stealing 13 times, so when you try to run on the base paths you've had an overall negative impact on the Cubs offense, so you really shouldn't even attempt to steal bases because you're really bad at it and you've killed at least 13 rallies because of it.", but fuck all that. I'm a gamer. And the girls think I'm hot. You don't see any hot Cubs fans pining over the prematurely balding Aramis Ramirez or the odd-looking Alfonso Soriano, do you? I make things happen, I'm more important.

I
Hit
Singles.

End of story, bitches.

Love,
THE RIOT.

(Note: I actually like Ryan Theriot a lot and he's been good, but that anti-Soriano letter was so ridiculous I had to come back with something for my personal sanity.)

Grumpy Marlins coaches [Aug. 17th, 2008|08:10 pm]

chicagocubs

[themiddlestates]
Did anyone notice how grumpy the Marlins' coaches looked when the Marlins got into trouble or gave up a lead in this series? They looked positively grumpy. :/

I really like how the Cubs are beating teams that have given them difficulty in the past. I hope that taking 3 out of 3 against Atlanta, and then taking 2 out of 3 against the Marlins will help their confidence against teams that they haven't fared as well against in the past.

Anyone watching the Olympics and women's spring board diving? One of the US divers is Christina Loukas and she's from Riverwoods, IL (I think she went to Deerfield High School, I vaguely remember signs mentioning her winning state diving). The announcers keep mentioning how she's a Chicago gal and is a "die-hard Cubs fan". Showed pictures of her at one of the rooftops yesterday.

They JUST mentioned that her father freaking owns the Cubby Bear and several of the roof-top properties!

Go home girl!

Not running out of the batter's box [Aug. 17th, 2008|12:36 am]

chicagocubs

[sonofthelama]
Hi,

I'm Alfonso Soriano and I don't run right out of the batter box when I make contact with the ball because I am far too busy admiring my shot and making sure I don't actually have to run. I am really more of a trotter/jogger anyway. Just watch me in the outfield. Suckers like Johnson, Edmonds and Fukudome have to hustle, jump and dive for balls to be valuable because they can't hit home runs like I can.

I am too special and valuable to risk hurting myself in the outfield by actually trying to catch a ball that might be out of my reach. I make 17 million dollars a year and protecting that investment supercedes actually earning it.

My bat runs hot and cold just like other players in the major leagues. But that is okay because I hit more home runs than anyone else. I have 22! That is 2 more than Ramirez and 4 more than Soto! Pfft, Theriot? He has 1. So what if he has 65 runs and 142 hits compared to my 54 runs and 93 hits. He makes less and therefore less valuable. DeRosa is a good guy and leads the team in runs, but 14 homers means I am more important.

I
Hit
Homers

End of story, bitches

Love,

Fonz
