Wow.
I finally really understand what all the TFn effects guy mean when they say it's hard to come home after a day of working in AE and other programs, to only open it up again and start working on their own project.

Needless to say, I haven't progressed much in the FKaD edit. I just don't have the concentration.

Man.
Between this, and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe... I'm never going to get anything done.
The Street Fighter game definitely wins for coolest visuals. People are going to be talking about this one a lot more than MK/DCU, methinks.

The thing I love about winter the most is the fact that you get to do all the things kids do without being "un-cool".

Snow forts, snow fights, snow angles, snowmen, ice skating, and sledding...

The snow creates a whole new world, making it all to easy to get in touch with your inner child. Your town, the outstide of your house, everything looks different. Not to mention the cold tends to bring people closer together. When walking people huddle for warmth, or get cozy on the couch together. In this season it seams like people don't just try to fisically keep warm then try to keep there hearts warm as well. Maybe this is why me and my 3 best friends always seem to find time for eachother in our busy schedules at least once in the winter.

The snow was coming down like crazy when we reached the cabin around 7:30 on a friday night. We had already voted on the way up that we wanted to go for a late a night walk through the woods first. So we quickly carried in our bags and I turned on all the power. It was our first get away with all 4 of us there, and we were pretty excited. After we had got settled in we put on our boots,  hats and scarves then headed outside for our walk.

Areil's wedding was coming up in about 7 months, so as we walked we were talking about all the details.  We were laughing and joking about what the bridal party shoud dance to when I noticed a light off to the right side of the path. I was a little confused because my family's cabin was the only one for miles around these areas. After a min I convinced the girls to go check it out with me. As we got closer we could hear running water and sound of childreans laughter echoing pretty loudly. Intreeged and confused we continued to go towards the light. To our surprise it was a tunnel that looked like it lead to a cave. Their were childrean in bathing suits, walking up one side and sliding down the other like it was a waterslide. I watched for a min, noticeing that they never looked at us or stepped outside the tunnel. Jasmine beigng the bubbly out going person she is said hello to one of the young boys. He never looked up or egnolaged that we were there. I took a few steps closer, and quite loudly said hello can't you see us. Nothing.... As I took another step forward I heard Aaroura say  they must be freezing. I was about to say they must be crazy when I slipped and fell right into the tunnel. Suddenly I was slidding through this very dark cave trying to yell back to the girls, but I couldn't see or hear them anymore.

this is mostly just for me, a reminder, but you can check this stuff out too! i was just futzing around on wikipedia and learned about the writers ambrose bierce and boleslaw prus, who both seem pretty neat. so here is a really short story by prus:

http://www.flashfictiononline.com/pdf/fpublic0002-mold-of-the-earth-boleslaw-prus.pdf

and here are a few stories by bierce:

http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/375

http://bierce.thefreelibrary.com/A-Horseman-in-the-Sky

http://publicliterature.org/books/parenticide_club/xaa.php

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

the thing that got my attention first is a book he wrote called The Devil's Dictionary

http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/972

it's just a dictionary wherein he rephrases things and makes them cynical. i only read a few examples listed on wikipedia, but some of them were pretty quirky and funny. i got a kick out of these:

Arrest
Formally to detain one accused of unusualness.

Cat
A soft indestructible automaton provided by Nature to be kicked when things go wrong in the domestic circle.

Education
That which discloses to the wise, and disguises from the foolish, their lack of understanding.

Friendship
A ship big enough to carry two in fair weather, but only one in foul.

Idiot
A member of a large and powerful tribe whose influence in human affairs has always been dominant and controlling.

Miss
The title with which we brand unmarried women to indicate that they are in the market. Miss, Missis (Mrs.) and Mister (Mr.) are the three most distinctly disagreeable words in the language, in sound and sense. Two are corruptions of Mistress, the other of Master. In the general abolition of social titles in this our country they miraculously escaped to plague us. If we must have them let us be consistent and give one to the unmarried man. I venture to suggest Mush, abbreviated to Mh.

Patience
A minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue.

Philosophy
A route of many roads leading from nowhere to nothing.

Pray
To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled on behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy.

Vote
The instrument and symbol of a freeman's power to make a fool of himself and a wreck of his country.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

i like the defenition of friendship a lot. and i think it's great that one can find books and such on the internet. yup.

MH: Objective journalism is why politics have been corrupt for so long?

HST:
If you consider the great journalists in history, you don't see too many objective journalists on that list. H. L. Mencken was not objective. Mike Royko, who just died. I. F. Stone was not objective. Mark Twain was not objective. I don't quite understand this worship of objectivity in journalism. Now, just flat-out lying is different from being subjective.

I'm so fucking sick of being broke.
When is it going to get easier?? Isn't that what those 17 years of school were for?

I always have to do it the hard way. I don't know why, but that's how it turns out. Every goddamn thing.

Happy October!

reading back through my old lj, a year ago i was performing every weekend with the band and having a blast, but still extremely anxious for the future and having major issues with my love life.

a year later, i have found myself to be a much stronger, more confident and able WOMAN than ever before.
i am secure in my future, secure in my relationships and mostly secure in my body.

i left a band that i lost control and lost myself in.
i left friends who betrayed each other.
i left jobs that were meaningless and degrading.
i left jerks who were not considerate in any way.

at the end of January, i will also be leaving a city that once meant freedom for myself but now only holds me back.

halloween is right around the corner, and that means Cedar Point, decorating, costumes, our halloween party and ghost hunting.

directly after, november is filled with birthdays and thanksgiving, and all the sudden christmas arrives. then, i'm packing my bags.

i'm THRILLED!

i just need to find a subleaser. :)
anyone need a nice place in kalamazoo to stay from jan/feb of 2009 to the end of july 2009?

getting old means earlier bed times.

Between The Force Unleashed, Clone Wars and finally being able to work on FKaD, I'm just all geeked out again.
Not to mention a very close likeness of Christopher Lee in a Dooku figure I found for my 1:6 collection. Seriously, for the $10 I spent, this guy is amazing.

For that collection, I'd mostly been going after Marvel characters, which have been quite easy to find as their respective movies come out. With the exception of sequels, I think I have a character for every Marvel film that's come out since X-Men. Multiples in some cases (The F4 + Dr. Doom, tho not the movie version for him; it was pretty bad).
I should post pictures in some collecting forum sometime. It's not really all that impressive compared to some of these guys, but it's sort of fun in it's own way. I don't need a dozen Batman figures, just one good one will do.

And seeing as I'm usually pretty broke, I only go for something like this if it's really cheap, on eBay primarily. Seeing as I'm about caught up with Marvel, and this Dooku turned out to be pretty cool... I have been considering starting up with a Star Wars shelf.
Since Star Wars is a haven for collectors, I'll prolly just have to pick who's most significant so I don't go nuts. I found an equally cheap Darth Maul + speeder bike around the time I found Dooku, and this 'realistic' Asajj Ventress is kinda cool, tho a bit more on the $ side than usual, plus my first even figure in this scale was a Darth Vader my uncle gave me when I was 10 or so... so maybe I'll just go after the Sith Lords or something.
On the other hand, Jango Fett looked pretty hardcore too...

Meh. It'll have to wait for the most part, I really don't have much $ to toss around. It's kind of a fun hobby; makes for some interesting decorations in my office, even if Nora sometimes seems irked by the obsession.

Still. It's fun.

I don't get to have a lot of that lately.

Kirsten Dunst is back for Spidey 4. So we've got the big three, her, Tobey and the director, Sam Raimi. I'm sure Aunt May'll be back, along with the newsroom cast.
It'll be interesting seeing how this plays out sans James Franco. I think that's partly what I wanted to see, in a way. How will it work?

My guess is they'll go for the Lizard and Kraven the Hunter. It's the perfect dynamic.
Lizard causes problems. Hunter hunts Lizard. Spider-Man interferes. Hunter hunts Spider-Man. Spidey has to take on two at once, but not two that are on the same side.

If they do this 'shooting 4 & 5 at the same time' rumor, well. Let's hope for the Sinister Six in #5.
I had this plan for how to make the Clone Saga work (in an extremely abridged version of course, it'd mostly be about the Jackal and Reilly than all that other crap), but meh. Unlikely.
I would like to see the Jackal and the Scarlet Spider though. I doubt Raimi is down for that, he's more into old-school Spidey.

Then, apparently there's going to be a show called "The Graysons", aka "Robin before he was Robin".

My guess? Epic fail.
They're making some changes to the character apparently. The one they mentioned is calling him "DJ", rather than Dick. I'm wondering if they're going to go as far as to make the family out so they're not acrobats.
I'm waiting to see an advertisement, but I don't get how this works. Robin trained as an acrobat, yes, but he really wasn't a superhero until Batman came along. He doesn't have any superpowers to develop, just acrobatic eliteness.... I dunno.

And I really like Robin, too.

Sixteen weeks.

I'm having fun here, in Kalamazoo. I really am, but the stress that manifests from the 40 hours of week that I'm in school instead of making any income tends to take quite the toll. I'm going to miss this towne house and my roommates, the friends and maybe a coffee shop or two, but other than that, I've really moved on.

I have big things waiting for me in Detroit. A new band, a new [real] job, a new home, new friends and a new clientèle. Family and friends who constantly wonder of my return.

It seems that things are falling into place.
He'll be with me.
And we can leave this dried up town with it's backwards notions and inside-out music scene.
Low intregrity and poor decisions.

I'm ready to start off with something new!

Are you?

Rules for writers [
Wednesday, October 1st 2008 at 5:25 am
]

emcee_furnace
In "Politics and the English Language," George Orwell provides six rules for writers:

* Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.
* Never use a long word where a short one will do.
* If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.
* Never use the passive voice where you can use the active.
* Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.
* Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.
