Does anyone know how to take the subtitles off of VLC media player? I tried exing out of the little box and deleting the filename, but apparently that doesn't work.
I mean, I really enjoyed "The Rocket" but reading shit about franco oppression and the managers wanting to trade Richard is a little distracting while I'm watching back episodes of "Doctor Who."

| why i'm not going to any prop 8 protests |

Did they protest when TN LGB people got screwed over yet again back in 2006? Did they protest when other states had similar things happen? Did they put any resources toward the adoption referendum in Arkansas?
Organizations like HRC pour money into states and races they deem 'winnable'. Yet they'll take anybody's money, regardless of geography. Why the hell should I give to a national organization that isn't going to fight on my behalf when they don't give two shits about LGBT issues that actually affect me on a local or statewide level. My money and time are better served in local and statewide organizations.
Also, I personally do not like being part of a scapegoat group for why Prop 8 failed, especially when the justification is based on a poll of 2240 people, of whom 224 were black. That's right, somehow 224 black people can magically speak and vote for the majority of those who share their ethnic background because, donchaknow, we're a monolithic entity and black LGB people are all closeted and self-loathing. As I've said in other places, if even the Mormons can get over their racism long enough to reach out in mostly black neighborhoods but supposedly 'progressive' organizations can't even bother to have ads that *gasp* feature people of color, then that is what's called bad campaigning. Preaching to the choir produces few victories. It's kind of like jerking off; it feels good but you're only screwing yourself. Yet there have been reports of white gay men yelling the N word at black men holding No on 8 signs at a protest in front of a LDS temple, people being threatened, and we can't forget the racist comments being left on just about every so-called 'progressive' blog that has covered this. And there have been people (online, admittedly) who have justified this boorish behavior by saying 'well, people are angry about it' and 'they were just trying to show how hurtful the word faggot is' (like no black gay man has ever been called a faggot before). You have supposedly progressive people claiming that the hordes of homophobic blacks are far more threatening than the 'handful' (to use Dan Savage's wording) of racist white gays. And then there is the 'look at all we've done for you people?!' reaction from people who somehow think that voting for Obama was purely a charitable and noble gift from white LGBTs. When was the last time you took action in response to a case like Troy Davis', informed others about the lack of access to health care that poor people face? Have you ever stood in solidarity with those groups about their issues, or do you complain about how backward and ignorant they are for not voting for your issue? Marriage equality is a civil right, but so are access to health care, equitable school funding, truly equal opportunity employment and education, and a plethora of other things. Keep in mind that the Democratic Party will not always be able to count on black votes; the Repubs are courting black ministers and leaders with some success. Where do you think school vouchers came from?
And if I hear any variation of 'gay is the new black' from anyone else, I will stab someone with a rusty spork. That comparison is tasteless because no two sufferings are ever comparable. Period. Also, it is an overly simplistic comparison and one that is guaranteed to piss off many older black Americans who survived the civil rights era and happen to be opposed to gay relationships on religious grounds. To them, this is a religious issue, not one of equality. Appropriating something that they lived through for your own ends is not a way to make friends and influence people. Many people who do use that comparison have no idea of the context in which all of the marches, sit-ins, bus rides, and court cases took place. Using that comparison without bothering to inform oneself of the history surrounding all of that (it was more than Rosa Parks, MLK, and Brown v. Board of Education), is the epitome of cultural appropriation.
Whining that 'well blacks know oppression, so they should know OUR oppression' is simplistic and utterly stupid. Implying that '"they're" all evil meanies for taking away OUR rights' doesn't do anyone any favors and falls into the category of assuming that a minority group is a monolithic entity devoid of autonomous individuals. And it also implies that blacks should somehow be grateful for not having to endure de jure segregation and 'owe' every minority group with a legitimate grievance. The sense of entitlement in that mindset is staggering. Votes are earned, not 'owed'.
No, I have better things to do. Let me know when Californians get a start on protesting Amendment 1 in TN, Amendment 2 in FL, the adoption ban in AR, the gay marriage ban in TX, or anything at all that has happened outside of Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York. They've got a lot of catching up to do. Let me know when white LGBTs remember that there are LGBT people of color who also lost the right to have their relationships recognized by the state, and many of those same people have been unfairly called brutal terms best left behind in darker, meaner times. Let me know when there are no more apologists for those people. Let me know when white gay activists start making noise about the plight of people who are poor, black, and gay without it being a pity story and acknowledge that people of color who are also LGBT (especially T) face discrimination on two fronts and are highly susceptible to being victims of hate crimes. The demographic face of bashing is not that of Matthew Shepard, it is likely far closer to Sakia Gunn, Nizah Morris, or Gwen Araujo.
One last thing: more blacks voted against the Arkansas adoption ban and Oregon, a very white state, also has a gay marriage ban in place thanks to its voters. Where are the threats against and disappointment with white people?

"The mobilization of a substantial proportion of the population in the cause of nationalism characterized this difficult period, which was affected by adverse economic conditions and a sharp decline in agricultural activity."
Ugh, yes, I am grossed out that Quebec: Nationalism in Crisis was the closest book to me, yes, I'm grossed that I apparently have such limited interests, and I am also disgusted that I read this shit for fun (read: senior thesis). BEDTIME READING

These are the 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish.

So according to Coll I guess I'm eligible to graduate with a French minor, since I'll get six credits in Quebec (on top of the fifteen French credits I have now) I'm thinking of taking my IS to a minor, as well, but I think that might make me have to stay in school for an extra two or three classes.
What are the benefits of having a major and two minors? Will it do anything for my grad school applications?
For the record, I'm majoring in history. I started out as IS, and then took on history as a double due to them being so integrated, but I've kind of ignored IS because the classes are really boring. I was just going to drop IS altogether.
